In the "Digitally Enhanced Driving" category, the international jury of experts recognised the new MAN SafeStop Assist, which significantly improves safety in intercity and coaches. MAN is thus continuing its success story. The manufacturer had already received a "Digital Award" for its smart cockpit at Busworld 2023.

"We are delighted that our innovations have impressed the expert jury and that MAN has won the Busworld Digital Award for the second time," said Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, at the award ceremony. This took place yesterday during the official Busworld press conference in Brussels. This was the second edition of the competition, which focuses on digital solutions that make public transport and travel safer, more efficient and more comfortable. In addition to the "Digitally Enhanced Driving" category won by MAN, developments in the categories "Digital Operational Excellence", "E-Mobility Management" and "Digital On-Board Comfort" were also honoured. A jury of experts from the bus industry, private entrepreneurs, journalists and UX (user experience) designers had compiled a shortlist from a large number of submissions and selected the winners from this list.

Innovation with major safety benefits

The intelligent MAN SafeStop Assist particularly impressed the jury because it helps to prevent serious bus accidents. These occur time and again when drivers are no longer able to control their vehicles due to medical or other emergencies. This is exactly where MAN SafeStop Assist comes in: if the system detects that the driver is no longer able to act, it automatically and safely brings the bus to a halt. This is made possible by the sophisticated interaction of several highly developed systems, such as the attention, lane return and emergency brake assistants.

"It happens time and again that drivers suddenly become unresponsive – with fatal consequences," says Kiess. "With SafeStop Assist, we offer a solution that can prevent such scenarios. In doing so, we are setting new standards in safety for passengers, drivers and other road users."

Unique in the double-decker segment

Since the 2024 model year, MAN SafeStop Assist has been available for the MAN Lion’s Intercity, MAN Lion’s Coach, NEOPLAN Tourliner and NEOPLAN Skyliner – the only European double-decker bus. At Busworld, visitors to the MAN stand can experience a NEOPLAN Skyliner "Auwärter Edition" equipped with the system as standard. The new fully electric MAN Lion's Coach E, which is celebrating its world premiere in Brussels, also features SafeStop Assist.

“No other manufacturer currently offers a comparable system for all current coach models,” emphasises Kiess, adding: “This makes SafeStop Assist one of the most significant innovations in our extensive range of driver assistance systems – not only in technical terms, but above all in terms of safety in coach transport.”

Bus,Coach,Awards,Events & Fairs,Digitalisation

It uses Perform's comprehensive vehicle usage data and driving style analyses, as well as an extensive knowledge database in the background, to create tailor-made performance analyses and recommendations for action for fleet managers. Following a successful launch in Austria in spring 2025, the innovative feature is now also available to Perform customers in Germany, with other European countries to follow gradually.

The new chat function allows fleet managers to simply formulate their analysis requirements in everyday language. Questions such as ‘Which drivers have room for improvement?’ or ‘What recommendations can I give to drivers?’, the AI immediately provides understandable evaluations and concrete recommendations that can be passed on directly to the drivers.

"Imagine you have a personal assistant who simplifies your everyday life and revolutionises it, like AI does when planning trips or shopping online. An assistant who saves you time and money and gives you new ideas. This is exactly the added value we are now bringing to fleet management with the Digital Fleet Assistant," explains Karl-Maximilian Strobel, Head of Product Management Services at MAN Truck & Bus.

Even faster analyses with the new Digital Fleet Assistant
The Digital Fleet Assistant ensures up to three times faster and more targeted evaluation of the extensive information. The AI-supported analysis tool evaluates a wide range of data, including driving behaviour, fuel consumption, use of assistance systems and technical information such as downtime and wear. This data is intelligently linked to a continuously updated knowledge database containing training materials, technical manuals and practical experience. The fleet manager receives the desired evaluations directly in the chat in a clear and easy-to-understand format – including recommendations for action tailored to the fleet, such as tips for more economical driving.

Popular with fleet managers: Perform
Perform is one of MAN's most widely used digital services. The service on the RIO platform accesses numerous data from vehicle use in near real time and provides detailed overviews of vehicle utilisation, driving style and even the severity of the transport tasks performed for individual vehicles or entire fleets – always taking into account the respective route profiles and traffic conditions.

Fleet managers can use this information to draw conclusions about untapped efficiency potential or unnecessary vehicle wear and tear. The data is provided in a neutral and comparable format, enabling an objective assessment of driver and vehicle performance. For example, it shows how proactively the vehicle was driven and whether the defined speed range was frequently exceeded or the accelerator pedal was often pressed despite active cruise control. This is important information for targeted driver training, for example.

Thanks to the interaction between Perform and the MAN Driver App, drivers can also access their individual performance data, view their ratings and thus improve their driving style independently.

Further information on Perform and all other MAN Digital Services is available on the MAN Marketplace at www.man.eu/marketplace.

Digitalisation,Truck,Bus

The vehicle is celebrating its premiere at the trade fair - with a new battery generation from MAN's own production facility in Nuremberg. Visitors to the stand can find out about the MAN BatteryPack, which boasts the latest lithium-ion battery technology (NMC). They will also gain an insight into the consulting services offered by MAN Transport Solutions and the automation of city buses. “Visitors will experience smart solutions for the urban transport of today and tomorrow. The focus is on our Lion's City E, which is setting new standards with the 2025 update,” says Robert Katzer, Head of Sales & Product Bus at MAN Truck & Bus.

MAN eBus and battery exhibit at the trade fair stand in Hall 4

The Lion's City 10 E with the new MAN battery generation will be on display in Hall A4 from June 16 to 18. The 10.5 meter long eBus is equipped with two doors, innovative assistance systems and four battery packs with an installed capacity of 356 kWh. The compact bus can make the most of its advantages as a booster at peak times and as a city center shuttle. With 27 seats and 54 standing places, it has a similar passenger capacity to many 12-meter buses, but requires less traffic space and is much more manoeuvrable. The new batteries also contribute to the issue of capacity. The new generation is more efficient, lighter and has a higher energy density and improved depth of discharge. As a result, the city bus requires fewer battery packs despite the range remaining the same or even increasing - which creates space for more passengers. In addition to its efficiency, the MAN BatteryPack also impresses with its safety and sustainability. In total, up to 96 percent of the batteries, which can cover a total of 1 million kilometers over a service life of up to 14 years, can be recycled. Series production of the battery system, which will be installed in all future eBuses and eTrucks, has been ramping up at the MAN plant in Nuremberg since April. More information will be provided on June 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the expert presentation “THE NEW MAN BATTERY PACK - lifelong energy, one reliable partner” by Christoph Matousek, Launch Manager Bus at MAN.

MAN continues its eBus success story in Hamburg

Even before the UITP Summit opens its doors in Hamburg, the “Mobility Festival” will take place on June 14, transforming Jungfernstieg into a meeting place for all those who are rethinking mobility. “Hamburg is a special place for us, as this is where our eBus success story began at the end of 2019 with the first handover of two MAN Lion's City E buses,” says Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, adding: ”Today, over 2,500 of our eBuses are in operation throughout Europe. We are therefore all the more pleased that the Lion's City E with the new MAN BatteryPack is making its debut here.” With the latest update of the eBus, MAN is continuing its commitment to sustainable solutions in public transport, which are more in demand than ever. The Paris Climate Agreement calls for global warming to be limited to well below two degrees. MAN is pursuing a clear zero-emissions strategy in order to meet this goal and its own commitment to sustainable mobility. “We are convinced that the future belongs to the electric drive,” says Katzer.

All-round advice and digital services for the switch to eMobility

In addition to future-proof solutions, MAN relies on a highly qualified team of eMobility experts and all-round advice when switching to eMobility. The entire transition process is considered with a 360° analysis. The aim is to ensure a successful transition to electric mobility with as little effort as possible for the operators. But even after the switch to e-vehicles, MAN's experts are there to support customers with their expertise and digital tools.

SaveTheDate: MAN at the UITP Summit 2025

The UITP Summit is the world's largest event for sustainable urban mobility. Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions. “It is the guiding principle of our daily work and has also guided us in the development of the MAN Driver App. The goal was always clear: with the app and our other digital services, we want to make our customers' jobs even more efficient and easier. That's why I'm particularly pleased that the jury of the Telematik Award also honoured the performance of our highly motivated team. This is an incentive for all of us to constantly align our services with the current needs of the market and create solutions for our customers' challenges.”

“The MAN Driver App helps to simplify everyday work on board of trucks and buses – on the one hand, it enables efficient networking between drivers, fleet managers, MAN workshops and the MAN Mobile24 breakdown service, and on the other hand, the app offers drivers access to additional MAN DigitalServices,” explains Marta Klusak, Head of Digital Products for Fleet Management & Driver Solutions in IT. “Together with our customers and in line with market requirements, we will continue to develop the MAN Driver App in the coming years. In this way, we want to provide our customers with ever better support in their challenging day-to-day work.” Stephan Sainer, Senior Manager MAN Digital Services, adds: “Development achievements such as the MAN Driver App can only be accomplished with an outstanding team spirit – and always with the common goal in mind: Simplifying Business.”

About the Telematik Award:

The Telematik Award has been presented every two years since the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010. It is awarded every two years by a specialist jury consisting of renowned members from business and science as well as specialist journalists, users and experts. With the MAN Driver App, MAN is focusing on “making the benefits of digitalisation accessible to drivers”, says Olaf Lies, the patron of the Telematics Award 2024, Lower Saxony's Minister for Economic Affairs, Construction, Transport and Digitalisation.

This is exemplified by the new feature of the MAN Driver App. In conjunction with MAN SimplePay, drivers of MAN trucks and other truck brands can save themselves the way to the checkout at selected acceptance points, as transactions for refuelling can be processed in a contactless manner via the MAN Driver App. For this purpose, fuel cards from the mobility service provider UTA Edenred can be digitally stored in MAN SimplePay. The company's acceptance network comprises around 88,000 outlets in 40 countries.

Around 1,900 petrol stations in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Spain and Hungary currently support the contactless fuel card functionality of MAN SimplePay. Further stations and countries will be added continuously. Truck drivers can also use MAN SimplePay and the MAN Driver App to find the right parking space in the TRAVIS Road Services partner network. The booking of parking spaces and the authorization of transactions also take place in a contactless way via the MAN Driver App. The MAN SimplePay digital platform helps fleet managers to manage the operating costs of their fleet even more economically and to identify potential savings more easily.

Digitalisation,Truck,Services,Coach,Bus

The start of production on the series production line in Munich is scheduled for the middle of the year. Around 2,800 order enquiries and orders have been received for the eTruck. For customers, the switch to electric drives represents a new challenge that raises many individual questions - and the need for advice is correspondingly high. MAN is therefore investing heavily in personnel and technology in this area.

The MAN Transport Solutions team of experts has been on hand since 2018 to provide comprehensive answers to questions and help customers make the switch from diesel to electric. The size of the MAN Transport Solutions team has grown noticeably in recent years. Through intensive training, around 100 so-called eMobility Champions have been trained in all European countries to advise customers on all aspects of the introduction of electric vehicles: from fleet planning to the initial charging infrastructure. All eMobility experts now have access to a new web tool that clearly illustrates various calculations, provides an overview of the existing public charging infrastructure and supports the planning of the customer's own charging infrastructure.

How many charging points does the customer need?

The analysis for depot planning is very clear. After a brief query about how many eTrucks of which type are planned in a company and what average kilometres are driven per day, the next step is to look at possible implementation. Using satellite maps, customers can see which arrangement of charging bays can be realised on their premises. Suitable lorry icons can be placed on the map and there are various arrangements to choose from, such as one behind the other, next to each other or in a herringbone profile. Equally impressive is the calculation of a photovoltaic system. The available roof area can be marked directly on the map and the tool provides an estimate of the possible energy yield depending on the location and the impact on the customer's kWh price.

In addition to setting up their own charging infrastructure, charging at public charging points is also an important criterion for customers in the decision-making process for battery-electric trucks. With MAN Charge&Go, MAN has developed a strong bundle of solutions for public charging that makes it as easy as possible for customers to find truck-compatible charging points, a clear price structure and, finally, payment at the charging points.

MAN's eTruck ready standard

The new eTruck ready standard should be emphasised in this context: for the first time, it shows truck-compatible charging points that have been assessed according to strict MAN criteria. These are listed in two levels on the digital map: eTruck ready and eTruck limited. While eTruck ready shows unrestricted truck charging points, the charging points labelled as limited have restrictions - e.g. in terms of vehicle length.

During the eMobility 360° consulting phase by MAN Transport Solutions, this unique European truck charging overview map provides another special feature: in addition to the charging points currently available on the network, it also shows the charging points planned by the end of 2025. By the end of this year, the truck-compatible charging points will total over 1,000 locations. This initial network already enables the use of electric lorries on many long-distance routes. MAN is also making an important contribution to this together with E.ON by setting up around 80 public charging locations at MAN service centres by the end of 2025.

Following the launch of MAN Charge&Go in all European core markets in May 2025, this card will also help customers to search online for suitable truck charging points. MAN Charge&Go is a charging tariff that applies to the network of the same name. A card is used for authentication at the charging station. MAN Charge&Go was developed so that mixed fleets can also use the offer. A consolidated and transparent invoice at the end of the month provides an overview of the charging costs for the entire fleet at all charging points used.

MAN SmartRoute finds the ideal charging stop

Another service from the MAN eTruck digital portfolio is MAN SmartRoute. The digital service is available to fleet managers embedded in the RIO Fleet Monitor and actively supports them in route planning. Taking into account the battery charge level and the charging capacity of the respective charging stations, MAN SmartRoute always finds the ideal charging stops and thus creates the right route. The service is part of the integrated digital package, which MAN eTGX and eTGS customers can use at no extra cost for the first five years.

MAN offers a comprehensive portfolio of battery-electric trucks for all sectors: from the 12-tonne eTGL, to lowliner and standard semitrailer tractors, chassis applications with 4x2 and 6x2 axle configurations as well as six different cabs from the eTGX and eTGS model series.

E-Mobility,Truck,Digitalisation,Services

The newly created online platform simplifies customers' operating cost management and provides transparency regarding the operating costs of the entire fleet. This is made possible by the fact that fuel and charging cards can be digitally stored at MAN SimplePay in the future and prioritized per vehicle. In the user-friendly overview, which is hosted on the RIO platform, the costs of day-to-day business, e.g. for refueling, parking and washing, will converge in the future.
Thanks to the cooperation with UTA Edenred as a fuel card partner, fleet managers can integrate the UTA fuel cards used for their vehicles into the digital platform. The MAN SimplePay platform provides a comprehensive overview of all fuel card transactions for the respective vehicle – even for vehicles from other manufacturers. The added value for users: simplified cost control, reduced effort and easier identification of potential savings.

“MAN's brand promise is 'Simplifying Business'. That's why we developed MAN SimplePay, a central platform for our customers that pools the operating costs of the entire fleet and enables contactless transactions for the driver,” explains Kerstin Rummel, Senior Vice President Commercial Service Operations at MAN Truck & Bus. ”This increases transparency and efficiency in fleet management while simplifying the driver's day-to-day work.”

One innovative element of MAN SimplePay is the contactless payment process. The driver can use the MAN Driver App to find points of interest such as filling stations and book parking spaces or truck washes in the TRAVIS Road Services partner network, as well as process the transactions contactlessly. Alternatively, the same will also be possible via the MAN truck's infotainment system. In addition to the advantage of the driver not having to make their way to the checkout, contactless processing offers additional security advantages over the use of physical fuel cards.

“At UTA Edenred, our aim is to make mobility on Europe's roads easier, more efficient and more sustainable with smart digital solutions,” says Pierre Jalady, CEO of UTA Edenred and General Manager of Edenred Mobility EMEA. ”I am delighted that, together with MAN Truck & Bus, we are taking an important step into the future of digital mobility experiences with the innovative MAN SimplePay service.”

The UTA Edenred acceptance network includes around 85,000 acceptance points in 40 countries. Of these, 3,500 filling stations in Germany, Austria, Italy and Belgium currently support the contactless fuel card functionality of MAN SimplePay. Further stations and countries will be added in the coming months.

In the event of a breakdown, the automatic cost approval for repair and workshop services, which can be stored in the MAN SimplePay platform, ensures accelerated processing by MAN Mobile24.

Truck,Services,Digitalisation,Van

The new digital cockpit for all MAN and NEOPLAN buses has now received the "Digital Award" from the Busworld organisation. For the first time, an international jury of experts presented the award at Busworld Europe 2023 as part of the "Digital Mobility Solutions Conference" on 11 October in Brussels. MAN's digital cockpit received the award in the category "Digital On-Board Comfort" and convinced the jury with its smart operating concept.
</pp:summary>

"We are very pleased that the new digital cockpit impressed the expert jury and won the Busworld Digital Award at the very first award ceremony. The feedback from our customers on the new comfortable driver's workplace is also consistently positive," says Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus on the award at Busworld in Brussels. "The feedback at the trade fair and the award are great recognition for the tireless commitment and professional work of the entire team. It has worked intensively across all areas to develop the new cockpit and now bring it to market."

A total of twelve products were shortlisted in four categories for the prize, which was awarded for the first time by Busworld. In addition to the "Digital On-Board Comfort" category won by MAN, these were also the categories "Digital Operational Excellence", "Digitally Enhanced Driving" and "E-Mobility Management". A jury of experts from the bus industry, private entrepreneurs, journalists and UX (user experience) designers drew up a shortlist from a large number of submissions and selected the winners. The jury's statement reads: "MAN's new digital cockpit is a clear step into the HMI future. With its innovative "SmartSelect" operation and full integration of the new electric platform and the latest ADAS systems, it helps the driver to concentrate on his work without irrelevant distractions."

The basis for the new features in the 2024 model year and the innovative, digital cockpit is a newly developed electronics platform for the bus portfolio. This is based on the tried-and-tested modular technology of the truck series and has been adapted for the special needs of MAN and NEOPLAN buses with their complex body electrics. This massively accelerates all computing processes on board with extended functionalities.

Digital cockpit with MAN SmartSelect sets new standards

The new digital cockpits, especially in the coach versions, feature the innovative SmartSelect operating system, a newly designed driver's workplace that meets the highest ergonomic standards. In the centre of the console, the new SmartSelect control panel is used in conjunction with a high-quality infotainment system with navigation, which is easy for the driver to reach and intuitive to operate.

A highlight in the truest sense of the word is the new 12-inch diagonal colour digital screen, whose two half-instruments in the centre reveal a large information surface. For this purpose, the rev counter and power meter have been moved to the right. This doubles the display area compared to its predecessor. The display offers a "full screen" view with large symbols in 3D optics and the detailed "home screen" display with a toggle display to the right and left of the central display for selecting. When the information placed to the side is called up, the two side pop-up menus slide like curtains from the outside inwards into the driver's central field of vision. In this way, several pieces of information can be displayed in parallel and optimally perceived by the driver.

The new MAN SmartSelect control button, which has never been installed in a bus before, pays tribute to the same theme. The entire operating concept and the positioning of the MAN SmartSelect unit is not only convenient, but also serves to ensure safety during the journey. Drivers can remain in their usual position with the media control and keep their attention on the road throughout. Carelessness or accidental missteering that could jeopardise safe driving are significantly reduced.

The concept is based on the experience of MAN's developers that in a commercial vehicle with its hard use and also a swinging driver's seat, a touchscreen for operating important functions is not optimal. To stabilise the operator's hand, an ergonomically optimal palm rest is used for the first time in the bus sector, on which the hand can be placed and thus stabilised. The principle behind this is: "Intuitive, simple and low distraction".

Bus,Awards,Digitalisation

Public transport, and buses in particular, make an important contribution to meeting people's changing mobility needs. In order to take into account the increasing traffic volumes, to relieve cities and to support bus companies in the best possible way, innovative and future-proof vehicles and services are needed - for urban, intercity and long-distance transport. With its MAN and NEOPLAN brands, MAN Truck & Bus already offers suitable solutions for a wide range of applications. A selection of these can be seen at the Busworld Europe 2023 trade fair in Brussels from 7 to 12 October. Visitors can expect to see a total of five innovative buses on the MAN stand in Hall 4 - including two world premieres. "The vehicles and numerous innovations in equipment and technology as well as modern services clearly show that MAN is consistently and successfully following the path towards sustainable, automated and digitalised transport," says Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus.

MAN Lion's City 10 E: Impresses with compact dimensions, sustainability and impressive performance

In public transport in particular, sustainable solutions are more in demand than ever. Together with partners and customers, MAN is therefore driving sustainable mobility forward and is committed to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. By 2050 at the latest, the company wants to become greenhouse gas neutral in terms of its balance sheet. "We at MAN are convinced that the future belongs to emission-free vehicles. That's why we are consistently pursuing the path towards sustainable public transport and are fully committed to electric drive - and our MAN Lion's City E," says Oktay and adds: "The sales figures show how well this is being received. The 1,000th eBus recently rolled off the production line." Fittingly, MAN is showing the Lion's City 10 E, the latest model in the MAN electric bus family, at Busworld. The midibus version with a length of 10.5 metres has been in production at MAN's Polish city bus plant in Starachowice since the beginning of 2023. Among other things, the compact size of the all-electric city bus will attract attention. This is because it can play to its strengths especially in the increasing use of customer-oriented "on-demand" services and as an amplifier at high-frequency times as well as a manoeuvrable city centre shuttle. After all, the city bus has a similar passenger capacity to many 12-metre solo buses, but requires significantly less traffic space in narrow city centres and depots and is much more manoeuvrable. The exhibit on the Busworld stand also impresses with an individual rear lounge and thus offers the right solution for comfortable and at the same time sustainable shuttle needs. The fact that the MAN Lion's City 10 E with its record-breaking turning circle and compact dimensions is also an ideal solution for demanding routes was recently proven by a practical test through alpine terrain in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. On the 531 km tour, the eBus covered over 10,000 metres in altitude and consumed an average of 0.77 kWh per kilometre. The Lion's City E achieved these top values in terms of efficiency thanks to innovative technology and a remarkable recuperation rate of over 50 percent.

MAN Lion's City 12 E LE: Electric low-entry version celebrates premiere

The Lion's City 12 E LE will celebrate its world premiere at Busworld 2023. The first electric MAN low-entry bus will be launched this year. It is based on the award-winning electric 12-metre solo bus with central drive and modular batteries, but ensures a particularly high level of seating comfort with the floor landscape adapted to customer feedback. With up to 41 passenger seats plus special use space for wheelchairs and prams and an engine tower-free rear landscape in low-entry design, the Lion's City 12 E LE is perfect for suburban lines with Class 1 approval. "In particular, the fact that the seats in the rear of the vehicle are all facing in the direction of travel ensures that passengers are comfortable even on longer journeys," says Heinz Kiess, Head of Bus Product Marketing at MAN Truck & Bus.

MAN Lion's Intercity LE 14: low-entry series now on three axles

World premiere number 2: Visitors to Busworld can expect to see another new vehicle on the MAN stand, the Lion's Intercity LE 14. The three-axle vehicle with significantly more capacity completes MAN's successful low-entry series. This means that the Lion's Intercity LE is now available in three sizes - a cost-effective and modern entry-level model for intercity and urban transport that offers bus operators maximum flexibility. With its length of 14.43 metres, the new Lion's Intercity LE 14 is one of the shortest vehicles in the popular three-axle bus market. And yet it offers space for up to 63 seats and a maximum of 127 passengers. Thanks to the steered and relievable trailing axle, it has a compact turning circle of 23.8 metres. Optionally, the bus is available with a third door at the rear - this is the variant it will be presented in at Busworld. There is also a choice of two versions of the ultra-modern digital cockpit. In addition, there is comprehensive safety equipment that is second to none and will be introduced in all MAN buses in model year 2024 on the basis of a new electronics platform. The Lion's Intercity LE 14 will also be equipped with the proven MAN EfficientHybrid drive with market-leading automatic stop-start system for all engines.

MAN Lion's Coach: more comfortable, safer and more efficient

Another eye-catcher on the stand is the MAN Lion's Coach. Numerous top teams in competitive sport travel comfortably and safely with this successful model among coaches. Visitors to the fair will experience a Lion's Coach with a length of 12 metres and 44 seats. The coach also features a wide range of innovations for the 2024 model year: from next year, for example, the vehicles will be based on a completely newly developed electronics platform, which will entail the introduction of a new digital driver's workplace. This can be seen for the first time at Busworld. The new cockpits with the innovative SmartSelect operating system meet the highest ergonomic standards and can be operated intuitively, which significantly relieves the drivers. The electronics platform also enables numerous new assistance and safety systems - including radar-based turn-off assistance and lane change assistance as well as lane departure warning and lane departure warning. The Lion's Coach is powered by the new MAN D26 coach engine in Euro 6e exhaust quality, which is particularly economical: despite an increase of ten hp and around 50 Newton metres more torque at peak, the highly developed 12.4-litre unit now consumes up to 2.5 percent less fuel overall. Another innovation is the further developed topographical gearshift programme EfficientCruise 3, which is optionally available for coaches of the MAN and NEOPLAN brands.

MAN TGE Coach: Made for small travel groups

The MAN portfolio at the stand is rounded off by a MAN TGE Coach. The 7.4-metre-long vehicle impresses with its size, its low consumption values - especially on the motorway - and its performance. With 177 hp (130 kW) and a rich maximum torque of 410 Newton metres, the journey can even take in challenging terrain - and that for up to 16 passengers. This is because the exclusive minibus can be equipped with 16 seats in various configurations, making it perfect for small travel groups and shuttle services. The ergonomically designed driver's workplace in combination with the numerous safety assistance systems ensures that driver and passengers reach their destination as relaxed as possible.

NEOPLAN Skyliner and Cityliner in the outdoor area

In the outdoor area - in the immediate vicinity of the MAN exhibition stand in Hall 4 - visitors can expect to see two NEOPLAN Skyliners, one of which has an exclusive bistro concept, and a NEOPLAN Cityliner "Diamond Edition". In addition, a MAN Lion's City 10 E, a MAN Lion's City 12 E - both equipped with MAN OptiView - a NEOPLAN Tourliner and a MAN TGE Coach will be available for test drives together with the experts from MAN ProfiDrive®.

Smart solutions: MAN Transport Solutions and MAN DigitalServices

Visitors to Busworld can experience the buses live on the MAN stand and also find out about MAN's extensive services. One focus is on electric mobility: in addition to future-proof vehicles, MAN offers a holistic eMobility package and all-round advice for customers switching to eMobility. This involves looking at the entire process of the changeover with a 360° analysis. The aim is to ensure that the switch to electromobility is successful and involves as little effort as possible for the operators. In total, the MAN team has already successfully completed more than 250 projects in 19 European countries in the truck, bus and van sectors, building up an enormous amount of know-how in the process. But MAN also supports customers with expertise and digital tools after the acquisition of buses. MAN DigitalServices are designed to help simplify processes, optimise the efficiency of the entire fleet, save operating costs and increase sustainability. True to the motto "Simplifying Business", the customers' business is to be simplified as much as possible. In order to achieve this, the digital portfolio of services is being continuously expanded. Customers also have the opportunity to test MAN DigitalServices for three months free of charge. The trial offer can be used once per new and existing customer; the free trial period ends automatically and does not need to be cancelled.

Visit MAN Truck & Bus at Busworld 2023 from 7 to 12 October at the exhibition stand in Brussels (Hall 4, Stand 401).

Here you will find the full press kit with comprehensive information and images:
Press kit: MAN at Busworld Europe 2023

Bus,Coach,Events & Fairs,E-Mobility,Digitalisation,Automation,Services

A total of around 200 entrepreneurs and drivers from 18 countries entered the competition for the most beautiful lion truck on Europe's roads, which was organised by MAN Truck & Bus. The overall winner from Poland and the four other finalists from Germany, Italy, Turkey and Great Britain received their awards from Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus at the MAN Trucknology Festival 2023. True champions are above all the drivers who ensure day and night that goods and merchandise get to where we all need them every day. We are celebrating this today with the MAN Truck Champion 2023, but also with the MAN Trucknology Festival. Because in the transport industry it is still the personal exchange between people that counts for practical solutions and ideas that make logistics possible in the first place. That's what we're celebrating here today with drivers, transport companies, body specialists and suppliers,"

MAN has invited customers, said a delighted Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus at the Truck Champion awards ceremony.

At the beginning of May, MAN Truck & Bus announced the "MAN Truck Champions 2023" competition. Owners and drivers of MAN trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 18 tonnes, decorated, personalised or customised on the exterior or interior, were eligible to compete for the title of the most beautiful MAN truck in Europe.

The most beautiful MAN truck in Europe comes from Poland

260 participants from 18 countries answered the call and submitted pictures and descriptions of their visually special vehicles: The impressive range of truck beauties ranged from artistically valuable airbrushes on the sides of the driver's cab to a MAN TGX 18.640 in gold paint. From 31 May to 11 June, public votes could be cast on the social networks Facebook and Instagram as well as on the channels and websites of "Trucker's World by MAN". After that, the most beautiful trucks in each individual country were determined. The top 5 participants, including the winner at European level, were also determined by a public vote on the same channels from 15 to 25 June.

European winner Paweł Pabich was visibly proud at the MAN Truck Champions finals when his vehicle - an all-white MAN TGX - was awarded "Most Beautiful MAN in Europe". The Paris Climate Agreement demands that global warming be limited to well below two degrees. In addition, Europe is to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. "The climate crisis is considered one of the biggest and most important challenges facing the global community and poses major challenges for politicians, transport operators and also for us," says Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, and adds: "We at MAN are convinced that the future belongs to emission-free vehicles. That's why we are consistently moving towards sustainable public transport and are fully committed to electric drive - and our MAN Lion's City E."

In keeping with this, MAN Truck & Bus will be showing the Lion's City 10 E, the latest model in the MAN electric bus family, at this year's UITP Global Public Transport Summit, which is taking place in Barcelona from 4 to 7 June. The midibus version with a length of 10.5 metres, which has been in production at MAN's Polish city bus plant in Starachowice since the beginning of 2023, can be seen in Hall 6, Stand 6A100. Among other things, the compact size of the all-electric city bus will attract attention. This is because it can play to its strengths especially in the increasing use of customer-oriented "on-demand" services and as an amplifier at high-frequency times as well as a manoeuvrable city centre shuttle. After all, the city bus has a similar passenger capacity to many 12-metre solo buses, but requires significantly less traffic space in narrow city centres and depots and is also much more manoeuvrable.

MAN Lion's City E is "Bus of the Year 2023"

The Lion's City 10 E is based on the construction kit of its big brother, the Lion's City 12 E, which 23 European trade journalists voted international "Bus of the Year 2023" last year in Limerick, Ireland. They were particularly enthusiastic about the overall concept of the city bus, which scores points for its range, reliability, comfort and, above all, sustainability. It is precisely this overall concept that makes the MAN eBus, which is also available in an 18-metre version, so popular with operators, drivers and passengers. In the meantime, it is successfully in use all over Europe.

Incidentally, the width, height and overhangs of the Lion's City 10 E have remained unchanged compared to the Lion's City 12 E, as has the concept of the engine tower-free rear, which provides four more seats (maximum 33 seats and 80 passengers in total) than the few competitors in the segment. The body was "shortened" exclusively between the axles, where a window module was removed. The result: the overall length was reduced to 10.5 metres and around 350 kilograms of weight were saved. Despite this significant shortening, there is still room for a wheelchair or pram in the standing platform. A third door is also possible, with which there are still 29 seats available and the passenger flow is once again significantly improved.

360°consultation and digital services for the switch to eMobility

In addition to future-proof vehicles, MAN Truck & Bus also relies on a highly qualified team of more than 75 eMobility experts throughout Europe and employee training courses with a focus on new technologies as well as all-round consultation for customers switching to eMobility. Since 2018, the MAN Transport Solutions team has been offering customers in many industries support in converting their fleets to zero-emission vehicles. This involves looking at the entire process of the changeover with a 360° analysis. The aim is to ensure the changeover to electromobility is successful and with as little effort as possible for the operators. In total, the team has already successfully completed more than 250 projects in 19 European countries in the truck, bus and van sectors, building up an enormous amount of know-how in the process.

But even after the switch to e-vehicles, the experts at MAN are still there to support customers with expertise and digital tools. With the MAN eManager as a smart digital central command system, fleet managers have battery, room temperature and other vehicle parameters conveniently under control from their desks. In line with the motto "Simplifying Business", charging management for the electric fleet becomes more transparent, simpler and more efficient thanks to targeted monitoring and flexible remote operation. MAN eManager also guarantees high vehicle availability and ensures that the charging status of the batteries always matches the timetable.

MAN pushes automation of buses

Another topic that plays an essential role in the transformation of the transport sector at the UITP Summit is automation. "The fact that urban bus mobility in the future will not only be emission-free and connected, but also automated, is not a general question, but merely a question of time," says Barbaros Oktay. MAN Truck & Bus is therefore pushing ahead with the automation of its buses. Together with Mobileye, the specialist for autonomous driving technology, MAN is consistently pursuing its roadmap, at the end of which is highly automated driving in city buses that is ready for series production. The first joint goal of MAN and Mobileye: the pilot operation of the first automated city bus with a safety driver is planned from 2025 as part of the MINGA research project in Munich. Dr Michael Roth, Head of Product Strategy Bus at MAN, will also talk about automation. As part of the conference programme at the UITP Summit, he will speak on the topic of "MAN's journey towards automated city buses". The lecture will take place on 5 June from 10 to 11.15 a.m. in Spotlight Forum B in Hall 6.

About the UITP Global Public Transport Summit

The UITP Global Public Transport Summit is the world's largest event dedicated to sustainable urban mobility, bringing together all transport modes, authorities and operators, as well as exhibitors. This year's event is themed "Bright Light of the City". The congress, lectures and exhibition will focus on the latest innovations, solutions and products. "It is a real concern of ours to advance the topic of sustainable mobility. That's why we are making our employees fit for the new technology, consulting our customers on how to make the switch and, with the MAN Lion's City E, we already have a very successful eBus series in our portfolio," says Robert Katzer, Head of Product & Sales Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, adding: "We are delighted that the UITP Summit offers us the perfect platform to showcase our innovative and future-proof solutions."

Bus,E-Mobility,Digitalisation,Automation,Events & Fairs,Sustainability

MAN Truck & Bus provides answers to these questions at the IAA Transportation 2022 and is shaping the underlying transformation: for conventional products with even lower fuel consumption, even more attractive workplaces and increased comfort for the driver as well as even more innovative digital services; for future CO2-free and intelligently connected transportation with the development of autonomous vehicles and the market introduction of the all-electric large-series truck from 2024, which MAN will present to a wide public for the first time in Hanover with an exhibition premiere of the near-series prototype. With a daily range of up to 800 kilometres and megawatt charging capability, the versatility of the new eTruck means that it will not only electrify long-haul transport, but also all common transport sectors currently covered by diesel trucks. Its production together with conventional trucks on a series production line makes the switch from diesel to electric particularly flexible. Together with comprehensive advice on e-mobility and charging infrastructure, MAN is making the change to CO2-free drives much easier for transport companies.

The transition to sustainable, climate-neutral mobility is taking place at an ever faster pace, also and especially in the transport industry. At Stand C20 in Hall 12 at this year’s IAA Transportation, MAN is therefore focusing on the three megatrends that accompany this transformation: zero emissions for the CO2-free transport of goods by road, digitalisation for the optimal integration of trucks into transport processes, and autonomous driving for greater safety and efficiency, targeted use of the scarce resource of drivers and the intelligent, climate-friendly combination of different modes of transport. However, actively shaping this transformation also means remaining innovative with conventional products. "With even lower fuel consumption, an even greater focus on driver needs and useful digital services, such as automatic truck payment at the filling station, we simplify our customers’ day-to-day business. We are making our production more flexible and are building our future heavy-duty eTruck on a production line with conventional vehicles in order to be able to electrify trucks or manufacture them with diesel drive, depending on our customers’ requirements. At the start of production, our new eTruck will cover all application areas, whether for the regional distribution of organic milk or long-distance transport of green steel. We will support our customers as closely as possible in their transition to e-mobility, based on our many years of expertise in the field of e-buses and vans as well as our electric eTGM in distribution transport,” explains Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, when describing the manufacturer’s approach to sustainable climate-neutral transport.

MAN eTruck

At the heart of MAN’s trade show presentation is the near-series prototype of the new MAN eTruck, which will go into service with the first customers from 2024. A technical highlight of the future-oriented “electric lion” is its preparation for future megawatt charging: high charging capacities with short charging times make the electric truck suitable for heavy-duty long-haul transport with daily ranges of between 600 and 800 kilometres, and even up to 1,000 kilometres at a later date. Together with low operating costs and the best energy balance, battery electric vehicles offer the most suitable technology for future CO2-free commercial vehicle fleets. In terms of the variety of applications and possible body concepts, the future MAN eTruck is in no way inferior to today’s diesel truck: it will cover applications ranging from CO2-free long-haul transport of refrigerated food and low-noise and emission-free waste disposal in the city through to the fully electric transport of materials to construction sites.

Zero emissions: holistic approach to the transition to electric power

In order to successfully convert a fleet from diesel to electric, it is necessary to perform a holistic analysis of the customer’s needs long before an electric truck is purchased. For this reason, MAN eMobility Consulting, which MAN is presenting for the first time at the IAA for the coming electric truck, includes advice on the vehicle as well as consideration of customer-specific deployment conditions such as operating phases, including cost optimisation, route analysis, fleet optimisation and, based on this, the necessary advice on the charging infrastructure. From the IAA onwards, digital tools such as the new MAN eReadyCheck can support customers in checking how their delivery routes can be driven purely electrically. In addition, the MAN eManager allows fleet managers to keep an eye on the important charging information of all trucks in the fleet at all times. They are part of the eSolutions presented by MAN Transport Solutions at the trade show, where various charging infrastructure partners will also be introduced, among other things.

Digitalisation: useful aids for everyday transport

In the area of digitalisation, MAN will give an overview of the already available extensive digital services at the IAA, and will also provide a preview of future digital services. MAN Now can already be used to update the map material for navigation and for over-the-air installation of driving functions such as MAN EfficientCruise or deployment-specific driving programs on the vehicle.

Workshop work can be carried out quickly and easily with the digital maintenance management system MAN ServiceCare, and the online efficiency monitoring function MAN Perform helps to ensure that the truck is always on the road in a fuel-efficient manner. At the IAA, MAN is also presenting the new digital payment system MAN SimplePay for the first time, which makes it much easier for drivers to visit filling stations and for fleet managers to keep track of fuel costs.

Automation: on the road to autonomous hub-to-hub transport

In addition to CO2-free drives, autonomous driving is a key factor in the transformation to sustainable goods transport. The advantages here: fewer accidents due to human error, more flexibility and efficiency through the separation of transport processes from statutory driving and rest periods, and reduction of unattractive long-haul driving tasks in favour of demanding and varied driving activities in urban and regional traffic for the few drivers still available.

At the IAA, MAN will be using various current practical projects to explain the continuous development steps from autonomous driving on closed sites to fully autonomous driving on the motorway between logistics hubs. The ANITA project is developing the autonomous delivery and delivery of containers in a road-rail handling terminal of the cooperation partner Deutsche Bahn, which is intended to significantly increase the performance of the handling process and thus climate-friendly combined transportation. The ATLAS-L4 project, on the other hand, is already working on the concrete implementation of autonomous hub-to-hub transport tasks – this has been possible since 2022 based on the law on autonomous driving. At the end of 2024, ATLAS-L4 will be the first truck to be driven autonomously on a German motorway.

Fuel savings: up to 4% less consumption with more power

MAN is launching a new version of the D26 engine for the classic diesel drive at the IAA. Depending on the application, the all-rounder for long-haul transport, heavy-duty distribution applications and construction site transport consumes up to 3% less fuel than the already very economical version – and at the same time offers an increase in torque by 50 Nm and a further 10 hp for all power variants. An additional saving for long-haul transport is provided by new aerodynamic measures for the MAN TGX, which further reduce drag in the air flow around the cab, and also include extensions that improve the transition of the air flow to the semitrailer. Together with the engine savings, this enables fuel savings of up to 4% in long-haul transport.

Focus on the driver and more safety for everyone

Fresh for the IAA Transportation 2022, MAN is also bringing even more emotion to its existing product range. For example, the exclusive top-of-the-range Individual Lion S equipment, which is equally popular with drivers and entrepreneurs alike and recently won a Red Dot in the Red Dot Design Award, will also be available for the MAN TGS series from the IAA onwards and will also experience extensive innovations at the same time: the special colour design now also includes the camera arms of the MAN OptiView mirror-replacement system, with which the driver no longer has any blind spots in their perception of the traffic situation and other road users. The typical red design elements in the interior and on the exterior are supplemented by new visual accents. Among other things, the aerodomes on the sides of the long cabs are visually highlighted with black or red colour elements, and there is also an attractive visual package in black.

In distribution transport, MAN is focusing on even more safety for all road users: as already the case for the MAN TGX and TGS, the MAN TGM is now also available with Turn Assist and Lane Change Support and Lane Change Collision Prevention Assist (LCCPA).

You can download the pictures and all 20 MAN press releases for the IAA Transportation 2020 using the ZIP files on the right-hand side under Downloads.

Events & Fairs,Truck,Van,E-Mobility,Research & Development,Digitalisation,Automation,Services

Across Europe, this e-bus is being rolled out in more and more cities for use in local public transport. MAN Truck & Bus is currently restructuring the services its offers with the MAN eManager, so that fleet managers can manage their e-vehicles digitally and in the best way possible. In future, the centralised system for efficient charging management will also be available with selected functions for the MAN eTGE. Whether managing e-buses or e-transporters, the digital central command system enables fleet managers to keep track of various vehicle parameters, including the battery and ambient temperature, from the convenience of their desk.

MAN Truck & Bus are receiving orders for e-buses from across Europe every single month, and the manufacturer has been pooling its experience from long-term field trials and from its extensive “Electrifying Europe” roadshow, which involved visits to numerous customers all over Europe. The future is now!

The findings that MAN has gathered on how municipalities and transport operators should be supported in their transition to emissions-free mobility are also flowing into a new offering for the MAN eManager, the digital command centre for e-buses. MAN recognised a long time ago that digitalisation would be one of the key factors (in addition to zero-emissions mobility and automation) to drive the transformation that is sweeping across the transport industry, and as a result integrated it into its strategy. Even today, digital solutions are a lived reality in all areas at the commercial vehicle manufacturer.

The MAN eManager initially underwent field trials as a solution for intelligent charging management. Now, the remote service is available on the RIO platform – the cloud-based platform from TRATON – in two new solutions: the MAN eManager S with basic functions, and the MAN eManager M with an advanced set of product features, both of which can be ordered on the MAN Marketplace.

MAN eManager S

The basic package includes elementary functions that make it easier to manage fleets with e-vehicles. Two key examples of this are the two options for charging the batteries: if “Charge immediately” is selected, the vehicle starts charging as soon as it is connected to a charging post and charging current is available. With the “Timed charging” option, the operator can set several timers simultaneously, so that the charging process is programmed for a certain departure time. Departure every Monday at 7 a.m.? When this function is activated, the driver can rest assured that the bus/coach will always be charged in time for departure, as it starts the charging process automatically – depending on the available charging current and battery charge level. The precondition, of course, is that the vehicle is connected to a charging post. And if the driver unexpectedly needs to use the vehicle sooner and therefore charge it earlier than scheduled, they can simply start the charging process manually at the press of a button.

With MAN eManager S, operators also have the option to thermally precondition the inside of the vehicle – both when the battery is being charged then and there and when it is being charged at a later point via the “Timed charging” functionality. In both cases, just one click of the mouse ensures that the e-bus leaves the depot with a pleasant interior temperature. The preconditioning process also has a positive effect on the remaining range, as less energy is required for the air-conditioning at the start of the trip.

If there is an error during the charging process – for example if a charging cable is not correctly attached – the fleet manager will see this in the application so that they can intervene in time. There are a total of six different charging states that provide detailed information on the current situation. This means that the fleet manager can immediately see whether a vehicle is currently connected to the charging post, is being charged, or is already fully charged and ready to start another trip.

The MAN eManager basic package also allows the user to keep constant track of other parameters, such as the battery charge level in percent, the remaining range in kilometres, the charging mode, the vehicle status and the time of the last update. All in real time.

MAN eManager M

The MAN eManager M package comes with other features in addition to the basic functions. For example, the operator can see even more information on the vehicle and battery in the application. The remaining battery capacity is displayed in kWh and the vehicle state options include the addition of “Drive” on top of “Ready to go” and “Not ready” options.

The M package also comes with a functionality that is key for efficient fleet management: it enables the operator to analyse average values for consumption, recuperation and driving distance, which can be recorded and compared for a certain period of time for just one or several vehicles. Operators also benefit from a detailed overview of the daily battery charging and discharging processes, air-conditioning, ambient temperature and energy consumption values, as these are all saved in the history. In addition to the start times and duration of the charging processes, operators can retrieve the remaining battery capacity in kilometres and kWh, and the battery charge level in percent for the start of the charging/discharging process. Finally, the MAN eManager M displays energy consumption and supply, minimum and average values of the charging and discharging current, and parameters for battery voltage and temperature.

No matter whether you opt for MAN eManager S or M, both are true to the motto of “Simplifying Business”. Both options make the entire e-vehicle fleet charging process – and in turn a fleet manager’s day-to-day work – much easier, more efficient and more transparent thanks to the detailed monitoring functions and flexible remote operation capability. MAN eManager simultaneously ensures that vehicle availability is maximised and that the battery charging process is always aligned with the timetable.

Some of the MAN eManager S functionalities for the electric variant of the solobus and articulated bus are also set to become available for the MAN eTGE in the future: the charging status, battery charge level and the remaining battery capacity (in km) of the e-transporter can also be retrieved via the digital command centre.

Bus,E-Mobility,Services,Digitalisation

More supportive, more efficient, more digital: New features see new MAN Truck Generation hit new heights

The MAN OptiView mirror replacement system, the MAN CruiseAssist driving assistant, additional fuel savings of up to 3.7 percent, as well as over-the-air updates with MAN Now and new digital services are just some of the innovations arriving between the second half of 2021 and early 2022 that will provide drivers and transportation companies with lasting benefits in their day-to-day operations.

</pp:summary>

New MAN Truck Generation available with a range of new product highlights between the second half of 2021 and early 2022

The MAN OptiView mirror replacement system and new assistance functions will make the new MAN Truck Generation even safer and more driver-friendly

Additional fuel savings of up to 3.7 percent thanks to new drive functions and aerodynamic improvements

Expanded range of digital services simplifies day-to-day operations of transportation companies and drivers

“We know that our customers’ businesses never stand still, so at MAN we never stop working on enhancements for our products. For this reason, we are making our new Truck Generation more efficient, safer and more innovative and are placing even more focus on simplifying the day-to-day operations of our customers and drivers, thus making us a reliable and competent partner,” says Göran Nyberg, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.

Innovative assistance

In terms of the new products, the main visual highlight is the absence of traditional exterior mirrors. The new, optional mirror replacement system, which can be ordered from October onwards, works exclusively with cameras, including at the front and on the sides of the vehicle. They show what is happening around the truck on two large high-resolution displays on the A-pillars and also on the screen of the media system. The driver has a selection of view options to choose from, each consistently eliminating blind spots, improving visibility and, above all else, significantly improving safety for other road users. The turn assist function is also integrated into the display concept.

The new collision avoidance assistant provides greater safety when changing lanes. As an extension of the previous lane change warning system, the assistant intervenes by countersteering if a collision is imminent. The new MAN CruiseAssist function provides another form of electronic driving assistance. It can be used to steer, brake and accelerate the TGX and TGS trucks independently in traffic on the motorway, even in the case of traffic jams. Even though the driver needs to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times, the system takes a lot of the burden off the driver and offers significant safety benefits. Both systems will be available for the TGX and TGS from July. The collision avoidance assistant as well as the lane change support and turn assist functions, which are already available for the TGX and TGS, can be ordered for the TGM from October.

A new turn assist camera system with warning function from MAN Individual provides greater safety ex works, particularly as a retrofit solution for older vehicles.

Sustainable efficiency

When it comes to efficiency, the new MAN Truck Generation, which, with its fuel savings of up to 8.2 percent, is already very frugal, is about to go one better. The new dynamic torque adjustment function, which can also be ordered from July, and the speed reduction when cruising at idling speed have a further impact on the reduction in fuel consumption. When combined with the highly efficient MAN TipMatic 12 gearbox, which is now used by default in standard semitrailer tractors, and the aerodynamics, which have been further improved by the removal of the exterior mirrors and the arrival of the new sunblind for the GM and GX cabs, additional fuel savings of up to 3.7 percent can be achieved in long-haul transport situations with the D26 engine series.

Digital with an eye to the future

Fleet managers are just as pleased about this as they are about the expanded range of over-the-air function updates and new features on the free MAN Driver App, which also contribute to efficiency. MAN Perform, the tool for analysing driver and vehicle deployment, will also be upgraded between the second half of 2021 and early 2022, offering new features such as automated fleet and driver reports, and the ability to integrate additional performance data.

And finally, the digital offering around the new MAN Truck Generation is also growing as a result of the fact that the MAN Driver App also has new functions in addition to its previous functions such as support for departure control and damage reports, the MAN service base search or the short operating instructions. In addition to eight other language versions, these are above all recommendations for action for an economical driving style and, in conjunction with the Perform service, explanations of the evaluations of the individual driving style analysis by the app. This allows drivers to use the new MAN Truck Generation even more comfortably and transport companies benefit from even greater efficiency. True to the guiding principle of MAN: Simplifying Business.

Note on press kit: More information on the innovations in the areas of assistance systems, efficiency systems and digital services can be found in the press releases in the download area to the right of this announcement.

Truck,Digitalisation,Research & Development,Services

Similar to a smartphone, which sees the user install the apps that they currently require, customers on the MAN Now platform receive upgrades that enable them to adapt the functionality of their trucks to their respective needs. These upgrades, such as MAN OnlineTraffic, can now be run en route and at any time via mobile Internet, without the need for cables or a visit to the workshop. Just like a smartphone.

MAN OnlineTraffic, the first feature on MAN Now to be made available “over-the-air”, enables truck drivers to plan the best possible route by feeding route-specific, real-time data on the current traffic conditions into the vehicle navigation system.

In this way, customers benefit from up-to-date information about traffic jams or traffic disruption and can optimise their route. The navigation system works out alternative routes on the basis of this data. Thanks to MAN OnlineTraffic, restrictions that are relevant to truck drivers in particular, such as clearance heights or permissible gross weights on bridges, are taken into account when the system works out the optimum route.

MAN OnlineTraffic can be activated in MAN Now. After logging onto the online platform, fleet managers are able to equip each vehicle with the latest features on an ongoing and needs-oriented basis – at the touch of a button via the Internet, without visiting the workshop. An over-the-air system for the new MAN Truck Generation, available everywhere at any time. Trucks from earlier model series can also benefit from MAN DigitalServices. In such cases, the customer is referred to their workshop of choice so that the retrofitting work can be carried out. MAN Now makes use of the automatic installation compatibility function to find out which features are currently available for each truck in the fleet and if they can be retrofitted.

With the MAN media system Navigation Advanced on board, customers have access to MAN OnlineTraffic free of charge for one year. That access is extended to two years if they have the MAN media system Navigation Professional on board. But MAN OnlineTraffic is just the beginning. MAN MapUpdate, with its up-to-date maps and geographically regional packages, will soon be available to customers on MAN Now. MAN Now will be expanded to include other over-the-air features in the course of 2021. In future, MAN Now will afford fleet managers the option of adapting the software configuration of their vehicles to suit the prevailing commercial requirements, such as software to reduce fuel consumption, gearbox driving programmes or additional language packs.

Services,Truck,Digitalisation

This digital command centre makes it possible to charge electric buses ahead of journeys and provides fleet managers with a handy source of ambient temperature data and other vehicle information.

</pp:summary>

Extensive range of functions in the first MAN eManager version

Targeted monitoring means more transparency and efficiency

The future has just rolled into town. A fleet of 15 MAN Lion’s City E demonstration vehicles are currently wowing customers and experts across Europe, and soon the first series-produced models will be making their way to cities across the world – bringing a whole new driving experience with them. This new fully electric city bus from MAN is equipped with sophisticated drive and battery technology and boasts a range of up to 270 kilometres, entirely without emissions or noise. The MAN Lion’s City 18 E electric articulated bus is now also ready for launch.

But MAN isn’t just delivering the hardware for this future face of mobility. It is also anticipating how its customers will operate the vehicles of tomorrow and using its technological expertise to make it even easier to charge and organise electric fleets. MAN eManager, a digital service developed specifically for MAN Lion’s City E vehicles, gives fleet operators a tool for managing electric buses from the comfort of a desk.

“Thanks to an interface between the RIO Box installed in the bus and the RIO platform, MAN eManager makes it possible to manage battery charging and vehicle air conditioning – even using pre-programmed settings”, explains Felix Krüger, Vice President Aftersales & MAN DigitalServices.

Reliable battery charging right up to the destination

At the heart of the new tool is the charge management facility for the modular battery system, which has a total capacity of 480 kWh (solobus) or 640 kWh (articulated bus) in the MAN Lion’s City E and comprises six or eight battery modules on the vehicle roof. Public transport vehicles in particular rely on battery charge states lasting long enough to accommodate timetables. eManager indicates at a glance if a vehicle is already fully charged or has reached its maximum charging level.

At the touch of a button, it is possible to charge a vehicle battery immediately or pre-program charging in MAN eManager – and the information is provided in a format that is clear and distinct to each individual electric bus. The system can be configured to ensure that any given bus is ready to depart at a particular time, depending on what day of the week it is. The fleet manager also receives notifications on the RIO platform in the event of charging issues, enabling quick intervention.

MAN eManager can also be used to adjust the air conditioning of the MAN Lion’s City E before the journey begins to ensure that energy is used as efficiently as possible. This helps prevent the need to recharge the battery on journeys where the ambient temperature varies significantly. When the climate control feature is activated, the vehicle leaves the depot with an ambient temperature that is already perfect for passengers getting on board.

Efficient operational planning

All these functions are available to use in the basic version of MAN eManager – and the digital tool is set to be enhanced even further with additional optional services that will go live and be available to purchase in the course of the next year. Every essential detail is available at a glance thanks to in-depth vehicle and battery monitoring, with information including the remaining range and current charge state, plus analyses of aspects such as total energy consumption and specific consumption data for the driveline, air-conditioning system and other units. “With MAN eManager, bus operators will have an efficient, cost-conscious tool for managing the scheduling of their electric fleets and carrying out daily operational planning”, says Rudi Kuchta, Head of Business Unit Bus, MAN Truck & Bus.

Services,E-Mobility,Bus,Digitalisation

The specified fuel consumption and emission data has been determined according to the measurement procedures prescribed by law. Since 1st September 2017, certain new vehicles are already being type-approved according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It is currently still required by law to state the NEDC figures for vehicles for passenger transport with registration class M1. In the case of new vehicles which have been type-approved according to the WLTP, the NEDC figures are derived from the WLTP data. In cases where the NEDC figures are specified as value ranges, these do not refer to a particular individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the sales offering.

Additional equipment and accessories (e.g. add-on parts, different tyre formats, etc.) may change the relevant vehicle parameters, such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, and, in conjunction with weather and traffic conditions and individual driving style, may affect fuel consumption, electrical power consumption, CO2 emissions and the performance figures for the vehicle.

Efficiency classes rate vehicles for passenger transport with an M1 passenger vehicle registration, according to the CO2 emissions under consideration of the empty vehicle weight. Vehicles which conform to the average are classified as D. Vehicles which are above the current average are classified as A+, A, B or C. Vehicles which are below average are classified as E, F or G.

Additional information regarding the official fuel consumption, and the official specific CO2 emissions of new vehicles for passenger transport, with an M1 passenger vehicle registration, can be found in the “Guide on the fuel economy, CO2-Emissions, and power consumptions of all New Passenger Car Models”. This guideline is available free of charge at all sales points and from the DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen, Germany. (https://www.datgroup.com/)

In vehicle classes N1, N2 and M2, coolant of the type R134a is used. MAN TGEs of vehicle class M1 require coolant of the type R1234yf. The GWP value of the coolant used is 1.430 (coolant type R134a) and 4 (coolant type R1234yf). The fill levels depend on the coolant compressor and varies between 560 - 590 grams.

4 new infotainment systems from which to choose: from the basic “MAN Radio Van” model through to the all-round care-free “MAN Media Van Business Navigation” version

Simple smartphone integration and real-time traffic information possible

The MAN TGE is taking a big step towards the future. Completely new network possibilities are opened up to transporter customers with the highly-modern MAN Telematics box, which is being integrated into nearly all TGE models effective immediately. The newly-added services include, among other things, the MAN Live Traffic function, as well as new in-vehicle apps, which quickly provide the driver with important information. The first in-vehicle apps, such as those for parking and refuelling, are integrated into the navigation solution and, because they’re online-capable and intuitive to use, provide the user with the latest information on fuel prices or parking fees. Other in-vehicle apps such as news or weather and other digital offerings from MAN DigitalServices will soon follow.

The TGE is also getting a totally new generation of online-capable infotainment systems that, together with the new MAN Telematics box, will make day-to-day work significantly easier for our customers. The new infotainment systems are available for all MAN TGE models with diesel engines** from the model year 2021. Production has already started for the new model year with the majority of the new options.

The most apparent innovation in the 2021 model of the MAN TGE cab – along with the new infotainment system – is the innovative 3-button module, which take’s the driver’s comfort and safety to a whole new level.

MAN is pushing forward digitalisation in the light commercial vehicles sector with these new online functions.

Increased safety in an emergency: the 3-button module

A key functional extension in the 2021 model of the TGE is the 3-button module, which is placed in a central position in the roof liner. The module, which has two grey buttons and one signal red button, makes it possible to make emergency calls (EU emergency calls), and call the MAN breakdown service and info service without connecting a mobile phone. When the signal red SOS button is pressed or the airbag is released, an audio connection to the emergency call centre is automatically created via the emergency number 112. The module simultaneously transmits the vehicle’s location and other information defined by law to speed up the rescue operation.

The MAN breakdown service button can be identified by the spanner symbol. Pressing this button automatically calls the MAN Mobile24 Call Centre. The module connects the driver to the right contact person in the Call Centre using the pre-set language in the infotainment system. At the same, the system transmits important vehicle data like the location and error codes to MAN Mobile24 so that a diagnosis and repairs can be made quickly in the event of a breakdown.

The information button – the one with the i symbol – also calls the MAN Mobile24 Call Centre. The info call is for clarifying vehicle-related issues. The new 3-button module is available for all new radio models for the MAN TGE – for an additional charge in the basic “MAN Radio Van” version and as standard for all other models.

For every requirement: 4 new infotainment systems

Four models, each with a different range of functions, are available in the new generation of MAN infotainment systems: “MAN Radio Van”, “MAN Media Van”, “MAN Media Van Business” and “MAN Media Van Business Navigation”.

MAN Radio Van: just radio

The entry-level version of the new MAN TGE infotainment system is content with its basic function: it is a radio. The driver can also play their own audio files via an SD card slot. The radio is operated using easy-to-operate buttons and control knobs. The use of calling services using the new 3-button module can be ordered as optional extra for the “MAN Radio Van” ex works. The 3-button module cannot be retrofitted.

MAN Media Van: entry into connectivity

The “MAN Media Van” infotainment system comes with a 6.5-inch TFT colour display with touchscreen, and combines the functions of radio, media centre, hands-free module and on-board computer. All the functions can be operated using the touchscreen display. The MAN SmartLink interface makes it possible to connect a mobile phone to the infotainment system with a cable and to use steaming services and navigation apps using MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlayTM or Android AutoTM. It is also possible to connect a rear-view camera to the infotainment system monitor ex works if preparations have been made. Making emergency calls, MAN breakdown calls and MAN info calls via the 3-button module is included with the “MAN Media Van” radio model.

MAN Media Van Business: increased comfort

The “MAN Media Van Business” infotainment system can be identified by the 8-inch colour display with touch screen. This model is perfect for people who want greater ease of use and additional connection options. The series-standard Wireless MAN SmartLink interface makes it possibly to wirelessly connect a smartphone and thus use the hands-free system and streaming services on the infotainment system. The “MAN Media Van Business” system can also use in-vehicle apps such as weather or news apps. The 3-button module for calling services is included.

MAN Media Van Business Navigation: the all-round care-free package

In addition to an eight-inch colour display with touchscreen, the wireless WiFi smartphone connection, enhanced in-vehicle apps*** and optional rear-view camera connection (if preparations have been made ex works), the top “MAN Media Van Business Navigation” model also has an integrated navigation system with MAN live traffic and regular map updates. That makes this version particularly well-suited to commercial use. A 2-year licence for using the real-time traffic display and receiving incremental MAN map updates is included and can be extended if required. Of course, it’s also possible to continue using the navigation without map updates or live traffic after the licence has expired. The 3-button module with emergency calls, MAN breakdown calls and MAN info calls also comes as standard “MAN Media Van Business Navigation”.

Van,Digitalisation,Services

According to a survey by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), transport companies worldwide are expecting losses of 551 billion euros. However, digital technologies in the form of holistic solutions can help companies to adapt their logistics to current demand. In this way MAN Digital Services helps transport companies optimize their business.

</pp:summary>

MAN Perform: Optimised vehicle use through detailed performance analyses

Vehicle updates "over the air" with MAN Now

Since August 2017 it has been fitted as standard in all MAN trucks: the RIO Box. It is the basic prerequisite for every vehicle to connect and transmit relevant data around the clock to the RIO platform, TRATON's cloud-based platform on which a wide range of digital services for the entire transport and logistics ecosystem are bundled. Via the platform, fleet managers have control over each individual vehicle and can therefore process orders more precisely and efficiently than before. The platform is also used to book the individual MAN digital services.

Integrated fleet management

MAN DigitalServices supports the fleet manager in implementing efficient fleet management. Even with the free basic package MAN Essentials he has the most important vehicle information at a glance. The basic package is automatically activated after registration on the RIO platform. For example, the location is transmitted at 15-minute intervals. Details of the individual driver assignments such as driving and standing times can also be viewed. The average fuel consumption is also displayed.

Driver analysis: optimizing performance

How efficiently and environmentally consciously do drivers control their trucks? How difficult is the operation? MAN Perform provides answers to this question with relevant information on drivers' driving style. This gives fleet managers a detailed overview of their drivers' driving behaviour, because the performance data read from the vehicle can be used to compare the drivers' driving performance objectively. This provides important clues for optimising driving performance. With the MAN Connected CoDriver service the driver can then develop his driving style further. The training takes place live via telephone directly at the driver's workplace with the aid of a ProfiDrive@Trainer.

Predictive maintenance: Avoid loss of revenue

A further key factor for entrepreneurial success is forward-looking maintenance management. Using the data provided by MAN ServiceCare, the MAN workshop provides support in vehicle analysis, coordination and management of service appointments. On the RIO platform the fleet manager receives information on the current maintenance status as well as on upcoming appointments and vehicle components to be repaired.

In addition, damage reports that the driver has sent via the MAN Driver App can be viewed and, if necessary, forwarded immediately to the MAN workshop. This proactive maintenance and fleet management ensures that the vehicles are always ready for operation.

"Thanks to the possibility of activating the many features precisely, individually and at short notice, but also of cancelling them again, we are able to convince not only the large and internationally active players of our advantages. Small and medium-sized companies in particular appreciate the modular and flexible concept of our digital services," explains Arwed Girschick, MAN Regional Sales Manager.

MAN Now: Vehicle update "Over the Air"

MAN Now offers the next level in digital vehicle management with the new MAN Truck Generation. The new digital service makes it possible to equip trucks with additional functions without having to take the vehicles to the workshop - via online upgrade as uncomplicated as with a smartphone. Two applications are already available: "Online Traffic" provides the driver with up-to-date data on the traffic situation, making it easier to avoid traffic jams. Map Update" provides additional support with the latest information on the course of the road. This allows short-term closures and road works to be quickly taken into account in navigation.

For the future, our developments are already going much further, because "digital solutions no longer only support the operational use of vehicles. More and more, vehicles can also be digitally modified up to digital platforms, becoming an integrated and active part of our customers' logistics processes and providing data for the entire logistics ecosystem," says Niklaus Waser, Senior Vice President Digital Transformation & Business Models.

Truck,Digitalisation,Services

Fully automated truck to be developed and tested for a more flexible container handling in terminal.

</pp:summary>

In order to automate transshipment between different modes of transport the project “Autonomous Innovation in Terminal Operations” (ANITA) has been launched on July 1st, 2020. Therefore, a fully automated truck is to be developed and tested in actual logistics operations at the DUSS Terminal in Ulm. Combined transport – the intermodal combination of road, rail and/or water transport – is one of the fastest-growing markets in the entire field of freight transport. The project ANITA is another important building block on the road to automating the entire transport process. It makes it possible to deploy vehicles and drivers more flexibly.

The project partners are MAN Truck & Bus SE, Deutsche Bahn AG, Götting KG and the Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. The project is being funded with approx. 5.5 million euros by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy’s “New Vehicle and System Technologies” program and is scheduled to run for 39 months.

The fully automated truck is to be used at the Ulm Dornstadt site. It will move automatically within the DB Intermodal Services container depot and the DUSS terminal. A MAN ‘safety driver’ will always be on board during tests. The digital infrastructure and all necessary interfaces will first be set up on site. Experienced crane operators will handle the containers to ensure that operations can be tested under real conditions.

Dr. Sigrid Nikutta, DB Management Board Member for Freight Transport: “Combined transport is key to successfully decarbonizing transport. The customer accesses rail transport via transshipment terminals, so it is important that we offer efficient and innovative processes here. Containers must be handled faster and more flexibly. We are using digitalization for this purpose, as in the ANITA project: self-driving trucks in the terminal are a first, important step towards ‘Terminal 4.0’.”

MAN Truck & Bus SE is developing the vehicle for the project: “Together with our partners, we will gain valuable experience with autonomous vehicles for container handling at a terminal. Following our already very successful platooning project with DB Schenker AG and the Fresenius University, ANITA marks the next important step on the road to automated driving in hub-to-hub application – yet another milestone on our MAN automation roadmap,” says Dr. Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research and Development at MAN Truck & Bus.

Götting KG will develop algorithms for determining the vehicle’s location and detecting obstacles. Hans-Heinrich Götting is in charge of Götting KG: “The ANITA project should improve our ability of our environment detection to a whole new level as we strive to achieve full automation. Collaborating with key partners within a real environment is extremely important for Götting KG.”

To ensure successful communication between the truck and the terminal/container depot, the behavior of people and machines on the terminal site will first be analyzed so that it can be translated into digital processes and rules. This will be the job of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences: “We have a tradition of analyzing processes in complex systems,” says Prof. Dr. Christian T. Haas, Director of the Institute for Complex Systems Research at Fresenius University. “The particular challenge posed by the current project is that we not only need to understand the system’s behavior, but also have to translate this into a digital concept that machines can work with. Safety has highest priority – but performance aspects are also important for the rollout process.”

Truck,Research & Development,Digitalisation,Automation

</pp:summary>

MAN Truck & Bus introduces a completely newly developed truck generation for the first time in 20 years, which is consistently oriented towards the changing requirements of the transportation industry and sets new standards for – among other things – assistance systems, driver orientation and digital networking. The new truck generation thus represents the development of MAN Truck & Bus from vehicle manufacturer to a provider of intelligent and sustainable transport solutions. With fuel savings of up to eight percent, the new MAN Truck Generation achieves significant reductions in CO2. The newly developed turn assist helps to prevent serious accidents in urban traffic – four years before the legally prescribed introduction. The lane change assistant also warns the driver of vehicles in the next lanes. MAN has involved customers and drivers in the development of the new MAN Truck Generation from the beginning, so that their requirements could consistently be made part of the new vehicle.

The new MAN Truck Generation follows in the footsteps of legendary series. The MAN TGA, which was presented in 2000, was formative for truck construction. Not only does the new MAN Truck Generation follow suit, it also brings a new level of comfort, safety, efficiency, reliability, service as well as connectivity and digitalisation.

“Simplifying Business” – the changing transportation industry

Today, the requirements in all areas of the transportation industry are more diverse and complex than ever – forecasts for the future indicate that fundamental transformation of the industry is in “full gear”. This brings great challenges with it – the transport volume in the EU alone is to increase by an additional 40 percent in the next 20 years. At the same time, strict legal regulations are intended to reduce CO2 emissions by 15 percent by 2025 (with an additional reduction by 30 percent by 2030). To make matters worse, there is a growing shortage of drivers. According to current estimations, in Germany there will be a shortage of around 150,000 qualified professional drivers in the next two years alone. Additionally, increasingly comprehensive digitalisation across all logistics processes sets a fast pace for transport companies.

“Our customers expect us to provide them with answers to these questions, and rightly so,” summarises Joachim Drees, the MAN Chairman of the Executive Board. “For their sake, we need to be one step ahead of these changes with all their direct and indirect effects. This is a huge, but at the same time, extremely exciting task – it means that we need to think in different, new dimensions as the manufacturer of our products. We do this with our new truck generation.”

This is why the new MAN truck generation offers everything which customers and drivers have always valued and expected from their MAN vehicles – only even better. It unites tried-and-true virtues with developments which are absolutely future-oriented, in order to take the burden off freight forwarders and drivers and make their daily work easier, despite increasingly complex framework conditions. In doing so, MAN is focussing on four core topics: the driver in their work place, the vehicle’s efficiency and its reliable usability, as well as the strong and competent partnership for customers.

“Excellent driver fit” – the driver is the focus

In order to optimise the work place in the truck and to adjust it to better meet the daily requirements of the driver, their performance and motivation need to be placed at the forefront. After all, the decisive building blocks for a transport company’s economic success are the commitment and satisfaction of drivers. This is why the new MAN truck generation sets standards in terms of user-friendliness, optimum ergonomics, operation which is more intuitive and reliable, networking with digital devices and applications and, last but not least, optimum space, a well-thought-out storage concept and perfect sleeping comfort – all this geared towards needs which were determined based on experience. This is because MAN consistently included the expertise and feedback of drivers and business people throughout the entire development process. Modern assistance systems such as the newly developed turn assist, the traffic jam assistant as well as lane change assist reduce the strain on the driver and ensure increased safety in road traffic.

Please note: You can download a detailed press release on this topic (2_MAN_New_TG_Excellent_Driver_ Fit_EN) in the ZIP file at the top right of this page.

“Great efficiency & economy”

The Euro 6d engine range, which was introduced back in 2019, realises its full efficiency potential with the new MAN Truck Generation. The perfect interplay of the units with additional, newly developed consumption-reducing driveline and software components provides the future series with a trailblazing level of efficiency. In this way, the new MAN Truck Generation saves up to eight percent of fuel compared to the Euro 6c predecessor version in classic long-haul transport applications, and thus achieves a clear reduction in CO2.

The improved aerodynamics of the new vehicle design also play their part in this reduction. Furthermore, MAN offers additional targeted and practice-oriented training and instruction options with digital applications, in order to support drivers in even more efficient driving methods.

Comprehensive product improvements for components and in the areas of maintenance and service reduce service life costs. Likewise, the new MAN truck generation offers significant payload advantages for weight-sensitive application sectors.

Please note: You can download a detailed press release on this topic (3_MAN_New_TG_Great_Efficiency_and_Economy_EN) in the ZIP file at the top right of this page.

“Optimised uptime” – utmost availability over the entire service life

How “good” a truck is when it is in use largely depends on how efficiently and easily it fulfils its transport task. An important parameter here is reliability. MAN endeavours to make the tried and true even better with the new truck generation, in order to ensure the long-standing product quality (which is repeatedly confirmed in the TÜV report) for the future as well. Take for example the newly developed, simplified, powerful and future-proof electronics architecture, which will significantly improve and expand the functionalities of the trucks.

Additionally, a comprehensively further developed, digitalised maintenance management system reduces operating costs and ensures maximum availability of the new MAN TG vehicles. Fleet management and drivers are supported through numerous digital functionalities and services.

Please note: You can download a detailed press release on this topic (4_MAN_New_TG_Optimised_Uptime_EN) in the ZIP file at the top right of this page.

“Strong partner” – competent and personal partnership

At the same time as the new truck generation, MAN is introducing a new consultation and offer system which is entirely oriented towards the needs of the customer. It follows a product logic which is consistently oriented towards the application profile. This allows for a new MAN TGX, TGS, TGM or TGL to be put together into a truck that fits the exact transport task, using comprehensively adjustable and flexible configuration options. This includes individually coordinated services from maintenance, financing and digital services, which make the truck a holistic, integrated transport solution – all this from a single source, with competent personal contact partners. Furthermore, MAN Individual provides a comprehensive portfolio of options to enhance the vehicle and make customer-specific adaptations ex-works.

Please note: You can download a detailed press release on this topic (5_MAN_New_TG_Strong_Partner_EN) in the ZIP file at the top right of this page.

From customer to product

The claim of the new MAN truck generation of “Simply my Truck” is not just a slogan, but a significant foundation for development – to find out how the ideal work place and living space in a truck should be designed first hand, the MAN developers presented over 700 drivers (including during visits to truck stops and service stations) with different prototype solutions. The feedback from the professionals and their personal wishes went directly into the new series.

Additionally, MAN invited 300 national and international customers from a total of 16 countries to Munich, in order to define the most important requirements for a new vehicle with them in workshops. The developers compared this diverse input with the feedback from the driver interviews, and implemented the resulting core ideas into the numerous innovative features of the new MAN truck generation.

At the same time, MAN is continuously developing the performance of its Sales and After Sales areas further. Based on over 50,000 personal customer surveys a year, new services and products were created which help the customer to optimally utilise their new MAN TGX, TGS, TGM or TGL.

Comprehensive improvements in the production and sales process

The new MAN truck generation does not only entail a new product for MAN; it also involves comprehensive improvements in Production and Sales.

In order for series production of the new MAN truck generation to be ready to go and to be able to simultaneously offer the previous models during the transition phase until the end of 2020, MAN invested around 100 million euros at the Munich site alone, for example. There, up to 500 cabs from the comprehensive range of the new MAN truck generation and the previous TG series are produced a day.

Additional investments amounting to 85 million euros went into the new cab paint shop of the main factory, which can now meet the increased output of cab construction without any problems. It is one of the most state of the art and environmentally friendly plants in Europe and another step on the way to a “green factory”, which MAN is dedicated to achieving.

At the plant in Steyr, Austria where the TGL and TGM series continue to roll off the production line, a new and cutting-edge paint shop was also put into operation. All plastic attachment parts for the entire MAN production network will be exclusively processed there in the future.

Alongside production, MAN also restructured its offer process with the launch of the new truck generation. At the centre of this is a fundamental change in method in product logic which manifests itself in new configuration processes and tools. When creating the offer, the core thought here is to place the individual transport task of the customer at the forefront. This results in a portfolio which is more closely aligned with the market and customers, with a completely integrated range of trucks, After Sales services, finance and digital services. The configuration and offer process is thereby not just much faster, but also provides a high level of flexibility when putting together the perfect tool for the customer’s transport task.

The new MAN Truck Generation – the project in numbers

The introduction of the new MAN Truck Generation is the most ambitious project from the company in 20 years:

12,000,000 working hours were spent as part of the project

4,000,000 test kilometres driven up to market launch

2,800,000 lines of software code

167,000 working hours were put into the new vehicle design

Around 22,000 new item numbers were integrated into all departments

3,000 cab colours are available as standard

2,100 MAN employees were directly involved in the project

8 cab sizes are available for the new MAN Truck Generation

Up to 8 percent less fuel consumption

4 series: MAN TGX, TGS, TGM or TGL

1 team: the 36,000 employees at MAN Truck & Bus

The new MAN Truck Generation: the right truck for any application

In developing its new generation of trucks, MAN consistently focused on the drivers and their transport task. The result is a product portfolio that optimally fulfils every transport task.

TGL, TGM, TGS and TGX model series from 7.5 to 41 tonnes

Eight different new cabs

The right chassis for each sector

Every transport task has its specific challenges. A truck in international long-haul transport must offer not only high fuel efficiency and ergonomic operating logic for relaxed and fatigue-free driving, but also provide a suitable concept for resting and the sleep area. This enables drivers to regenerate optimally during breaks, because only when they are fully rested can they retain concentration to steer their truck through traffic in a safe and environmentally friendly way. Assistance systems, such as semi-automated driving in traffic jams or the turn assist feature, provide additional support. Safety is key for operators not only in long-haul operations, on construction sites and in distribution networks. Good visibility and optimum display of important driving information are essential in urban driving situations and on tight construction sites or when manoeuvring around tricky delivery locations. The ergonomics of frequently entering and exiting the cab, as is part of the daily work routine in urban distribution transport or when operating municipal services, is another key aspect. It is also important to choose the right body for the transport task at hand, for which the vehicle chassis must offer the optimum technical and electronic interfaces – whether it be a three-way tipper, a roll-off skip loader, a refrigerated body, a refuse collector vehicle or a timber transporter. Not least, appropriate driveline design is key in ensuring that the driver and vehicle can handle the transport task efficiently and in accordance with the assignment. So as to offer the optimum solution every time, MAN has designed its new product range in modular form to meet the diverse requirements of the different transport sectors and tasks faced.

Varied product portfolio: The right truck for any task

Retaining what is tried and tested, and making it even better where appropriate, is the core thinking behind MAN's new generation of trucks based on the familiar model series line-up: Long-haul and heavy-duty transport jobs are still covered by the new MAN TGX models, recognisable by their wide, long and high cabs. As before, the new MAN TGX features a choice of three engine series offering a range of power outputs: the top-of-the-range MAN D38 developing up to 640 hp; the mid-range MAN D26 from 430 hp to 510 hp; or for light long-haul transport the MAN D15 from 330 to 400 hp. Alongside classic 4x2 and 6x2 semi-trailer tractors and chassis units, the 6x4 and 8x4 variants are also still available for the TGX, as they are a popular choice for heavy-duty transport operations for example. The 4x2 semi-trailer tractor can optionally be ordered with MAN HydroDrive, the hydrostatic front-axle drive providing additional traction on unpaved surfaces. With this diversity of options, the MAN TGX covers a range from 18 to 41 tonnes gross vehicle weight. For heavy-duty applications, a 250 tonne gross train weight is possible.

The new MAN TGS is targeted as before on the heavy-duty construction vehicle, distribution and municipal services sectors. This model series is characterised by narrow cabs, because in typical applications both low unladen weight and good visibility are key. In terms of power units, MAN offers the TGS with the D26 or D15 engine, covering a broad power range from 330 to 510 hp. The wide range of variants also makes the MAN TGS the king among the lions when it comes to drive configurations. Whether the 4x2 and 6x2 as semitrailer tractors or chassis units, the classic 6x4, 8x2 and 8x4 for a wide variety of sectors, or the specialist all-wheel drive rigs for rough terrain configured as 4x4, 6x6, 8x6 or 8x8. If the vehicle is mainly driven on paved roads, and additional traction is only occasionally required, MAN HydroDrive can be combined with a 2, 3- or 4-axle MAN TGS. Featuring such a variety of set-ups, the gross vehicle weight of the new MAN TGS ranges from 18 to 41 tonnes.

The light and medium tonnage ranges in the new truck generation are again covered by the MAN TGL and MAN TGM. There is a choice of four new narrow cabs: short, long, high with a bed, and the crew cab. The crew cab is used in the construction industry, by municipal service providers, as well as by emergency services. With its 4-cylinder version of the D08 engine, the new TGL covers a range from 7.5 to 12 tonnes. If that unit's 160 to 220 hp power range is not sufficient, the TGL can also be equipped with the 6-cylinder 250 hp D08 engine. That is also the basic power unit for the MAN TGM range, which extends up to a 320 hp 6-cylinder D08. The tonnage range of the new MAN TGM takes up where the new MAN TGL stops, extending from 12, 15 and 18 tonnes to 26 tonnes gross vehicle weight. While the MAN TGL is available exclusively in 4x2 versions, the MAN TGM also offers 6x2, 6x4 and 4x4 wheel configurations, which makes it attractive not only for medium-heavy overland distribution transport and urban logistics but also for many applications in construction, municipal services and fire-fighting.

New cabs: diversity is key

MAN offers no fewer than eight different cabs with its new truck generation. The most space is provided by the three large-capacity cabs, designated GX, GM and GN.

With their 2.44 metre outer width, the GX and GM are the perfect choice for long-haul international transports. Plenty of space for luggage is provided by the storage compartment in the middle under the bed, the two external storage boxes, which are also accessible from the inside, and the storage compartments and roof stowage units above the windscreen. The GX cab with the highest roof variant provides up to 355 litres of storage space. Thanks to the low-lying transmission tunnel, the GM cab has an above-average headroom of 1.87 metres, while that in the GX is even 2.07 metres. Drivers really enjoy being on the road with the two largest cab variants, which feature outstanding freedom of movement, an airy interior ambience and supreme levels of comfort. Comfortable beds with high-quality slatted frames and effective cab sound insulation ensure optimal relaxation and restful sleep.

The third of the large-capacity cab variants, the GN, offers the same high levels of comfort as in the GM and GX cabs. It merely dispenses with a high roof, which entails clear benefits for specific applications in a variety of different sectors. Examples include the transportation of sensitive loads with silos or oil tanker bodies and semi-trailers. Some body units, such as car transporters, extend over the low cab. Thanks to the low-lying transmission tunnel, the GN cab likewise still offers outstanding freedom of movement with its 1.57 metre headroom. Like the GX and GM versions, the comfortable bed has a high-quality slatted frame to ensure optimal relaxation and restful sleep.

In the construction industry, urban distribution logistics and tanker and silo transportation, optimum visibility and light weight are crucial. Convenient, ergonomic entry and exit when making frequent delivery stops is also very important. MAN developed the new, 2.24 metre narrow cabs for the TGL, TGM and TGS series of the new MAN Truck generation specifically to meet such requirements.

With its 2.24 metre width, the new TM cab meets the requirement for light weight and compact design, but with the identical length and the same high roof as the GM cab it also meets the high demands of living and sleeping comfort. The TM cab is ideal in payload-intensive national long-haul transport operations for example. Like the GM and GX cabs, the TM features exterior storage boxes accessible from the inside as well as numerous storage compartments and roof stowage units above the windscreen.

The new low TN cab is available for applications in which drivers and operators value high standards of comfort, plenty of storage space and a comfortable bed with a high-quality slatted frame for occasional overnight stays, but do not require a high roof.

As before, the new NN cab will be the most frequently chosen variant for the new MAN TGS. Typical applications in the construction industry are for tippers and transport mixers. Despite its compact 1.88 metre length, it still offers sufficient space behind the seats for work clothing and tools. The optional access ladder, featuring a standing platform above the left wheel arch and a grab handle on the roof, allows for safe and convenient monitoring of the cargo space behind the cab. Also typical of the design and very robust, the new medium-height or high chassis cabs feature a three-part steel bumper. The parts can be replaced in sections in the event of major collision damage. The flexibly mounted bottom rungs of the step units, protected by reinforced facings to withstand heavy impact without damage, are a further practical boon.

The new TGL and TGM series include the CC cab with an outer width of 2.24 metres and outer length of 1.62 metres. Despite its compact design, it offer the same high level of ergonomics and user-friendliness as the other cabs available for the new MAN. Drivers in a variety of sectors, including distribution, construction or municipal services, will relish the very low entry height and wide-opening doors.

The crew cab – the longest cab in the new truck generation – primarily offers plenty of space for additional passengers. The new four-door crew cab designated DN provides plenty of space for up to seven people and their equipment on its comfortable four-seater bench and its two or three seats in the front. They can also utilise generous storage facilities, including under the rear seat bench. This makes the crew cab ideally suited for trades, for municipal service providers and for emergency services.

PLEASE NOTE: These and further press releases about the new MAN Truck Generation are available for download as ZIP here on the top of this page.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>
