MAN joins German Railway Industry Association
MAN's primary contributions to the fields of transport and energy are the proven, innovative technology of its engines and its sophisticated service concept for the external engine business. External engine business an important pillar of MAN Truck & Bus
In joining the Association, MAN Truck & Bus underscores the importance of the external engine business as a strategic business field within the MAN Group. Reiner Rößner, Vice President and Head of Sales MAN Engines, reports positively on the development of turnover in the Business Center Rail, the business unit for rail engines: "Bucking the general trend in this sector, MTB did not see any weakening of demand for its products in 2011. This year, an increase in foreign demand for our diesel engines for railcars and locomotives can again be observed. We see this as the result of project business with our broad customer base, which consists primarily of big international railway corporations and operators of local public transport systems."
Diesel engine range for rail applications
MAN offers efficient 6- and 12-cylinder diesel engines for operation in railcars, mainline and shunting locomotives and track-maintenance vehicles as well as for power generation. Outputs start from 257 kW (350 hp) for railcars or 265 kW (360 hp) for locomotives and extend to 809 kW (1,100 hp). For railway gensets, the outputs range from 230 kW to 543 kW (313 hp to 738 hp). MAN engines are distinguished for their compact installation, which can be implemented conventionally in the drive module or positioned in a space-saving manner either underfloor or in the roof. Their significant advantages are fast load pick-up and economy in continuous operation while complying with the exhaust emission standards stipulated around the world.
