Pioneering the future - MAN eTGX 20.544 4x2 BL SA EB Tractor

MAN is thrilled to showcase one of the new Megawatt Charging (MCS) compatible eTGX tractors from John G Russell (Transport) Ltd (Russell Group) at RTX Scotland 2026.

In early September, John G Russell (Transport) Ltd (Russell Group) of Glasgow marked history as the first UK hauler to demonstrate Megawatt Charging (MCS) on British soil.

This new vehicle, an eTGX 20.544 4x2 tractor, is powered by a permanently excited synchronous motor delivering 400 kW (544 PS) and 1,250 Nm of torque. It is paired with 6 x 80 kWh (480 kWh) batteries, a central drive unit that drives a 4-speed MAN TipMatic® automated transmission and, via a propshaft, a traditional axle. For ease of operation, it features an MCS charging connection on the kerbside and a CCS charging point on the driver's side.

Megawatt Charging (MCS) is a high-power charging system engineered for heavy-duty electric vehicles. Unlike standard EV chargers, which typically provide up to 350 kW, MCS can deliver 750 kW DC. This substantial increase in power output enables rapid charging for vehicles with large battery capacities, such as trucks, significantly reducing downtime and making electric vehicles more viable for long-distance travel. The MCS Megawatt Charging System uses a specially designed connector capable of handling the high voltage (up to 1,250 volts) and current (up to 3,000 amps) required for megawatt-level charging.

MCS charging can charge eTruck-compatible batteries from 20 to 90 percent in just 30 minutes, fast enough to fit within the statutory 45-minute driver's break or turnaround.

Finished in John G Russell's standout livery, this 3750 mm wheelbase vehicle uses the MAN TGX GM high-roof sleeper cab, sits on a mix of leaf and air suspension (front and rear axles, respectively), and, as a 4x2 tractor, has a 42-tonne GVW under UK Authorised Weights Regulations.

The MAN TGX EfficientLine+ tractor debuted in the UK at RTX Stoneleigh in July 2026. The MAN EfficientLine+ (often associated with the flagship TGX series) is a factory-configured, fuel-saving package specifically designed to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for long-haul transport.

MAN’s EfficientLine+ concept delivers significant diesel savings through optimised aerodynamics, reduced vehicle weight, and smart software. In a comparison, the TGX 26.480 6x2/2 BL SA EfficientLine+ Midlift Tractor has shown up to 8 percent fuel savings compared with a standard TGX 26.480 6x2/2 BL SA, which can translate into annual fuel cost reductions of up to £6,600 GBP, based on 150,000 km per year.

The EfficientLine+ draws on a package of factory options, all proven to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs. These features include MAN OptiView mirror replacement, an energy-saving compressor, top-grade A-label tyres, a new Aero front bumper, and a speed limiter set to 85 km/h.

In early 2026, MAN Truck & Bus made a big splash in the “Heavy-Duty Transport” sector by launching its new TGX 41.640 8x4/4 tractor unit, with a gross vehicle weight of up to 250 tons.

Making a clear statement in the premier class of heavy-duty transport, MAN Individual offers the TGX 41.640 8x4/4 heavy-duty tractor as a complete factory built solution.

Built at the Munich and Wittlich production sites and powered by MAN’s legendary D38 15.3-liter inline 6-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine, which is capable of delivering 3,000 Nm between 900 and 1,380 rpm, this vehicle features a torque converter clutch, a special gearbox designed for extreme loads and powerful hydraulic and compressed air systems that enable precise steering and levelling of specialist 30 or more axles heavy-duty trailers.

Mounted directly behind the MAN's flagship GX cab is a heavy-duty tower containing four pressure tanks that provide an additional 160 litres of air, a 960-litre diesel tank, and a 290-litre tank for the two-stage heavy-duty hydraulics. The tower also houses a heavy-duty transport cooler, which keeps the engine temperature stable even at low speeds and high engine loads.

This high-performance truck comes with the same comprehensive after sales, warranty, and financing services as all MAN series vehicles.
