The fleet build is shared between Boniface and Roger Dyson, ensuring every vehicle delivers the same high standard of performance and reliability.

Rather than simply replacing existing vehicles, The AA has worked closely with its recovery patrol force to design a new fleet that reflects the realities of roadside recovery, and the practical challenges patrols face every day.

All round vision

Built on MAN's 5,475mm wheelbase TGM 15.250 chassis and featuring the factory six-seater DN crew cab (driver plus five passengers), the trucks feature the manufacturer's innovative OptiView digital mirror replacement system, which replaces conventional mirrors with high-definition cameras to improve visibility and reduce blind spots.

A comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems is complemented by the latest Redtronic emergency lighting and new high-point amber LED warning lights mounted on the recovery body. Positioned at the highest point of the recovery frame when the slide bed is deployed, the lights help approaching drivers spot the truck from further away.

Practical engineering has been just as important as new technology. Working with Boniface Engineering, the AA Fleet team supported the development of a modular recovery bed roller system that allows the fibre rollers to be replaced quickly if damaged.

Reducing recovery vehicle workshop time and keeping them available to assist AA members at the roadside is always a high priority.

In addition, new lightweight storage lockers also improve equipment organisation and day-to-day usability for patrols.

Dug Dudley, AA head of fleet engineering, said: "The best innovations are often the ones people don't immediately notice. Every improvement on these trucks has been designed to solve a real challenge our patrols face when helping members at the roadside.

"Working with MAN, Boniface and Dyson has allowed us to combine the latest vehicle technology with practical engineering that makes a real difference. From better visibility to quicker repairs, every improvement has one purpose - keeping our patrols safer and our trucks available to help members."

Michael Boniface, managing director of Boniface Engineering, said: “As a company, customer interaction and continuous feedback, as received from our collaboration with The AA, is paramount to the development of our product range. We strive to continually improve our products making them safer, more reliable, more practical to operate and easier to maintain, as demonstrated with the modular roller system. Our constant investment in time and engineering resources creates products with better performance, higher payloads and improved reliability – all of which helps to make the operators job easier and safer whilst creating higher residual values for the operator when they come to move the vehicles on”

Roger Dyson, managing director of Dyson Group, said: “Working with The AA, the biggest rescue and recovery operator in the UK is a privilege but also a sound base for innovation, development in service testing and evaluation of our products.

“We have now been supplying The AA for a number of years with the Dyson Hydraloader SLa (super low approach) recovery system which over the period has been developed in conjunction with The AA and the chassis manufacturer to give us a very robust and reliable combination of chassis and recovery system.

“The MAN TGL 15 250 crew cab is the ideal chassis for their frontline recovery rescue chassis, very up to date ideally suitable for the Dyson Hydraloader SLa super low approach steel slidebed platform, giving a real combination of chassis and recovery systems working in harmony producing an outstanding vehicle for reliability, ease of operation and creating a very competent combination of chassis and body systems working together in harmony.”

Patrol and member safety has influenced every aspect of the new design. Front and rear passengers exit via the nearside of the vehicle only, reducing the risk of stepping into live traffic during roadside recoveries.

Inside, the crew cab has been designed for colleagues who can spend long shifts attending to broken-down members. These features include air-suspended heated seats, automatic transmission, climate control, a walk-through cab and an upgraded digital cockpit.

To support The AA's broader sustainability ambitions, all 36 vehicles are approved to run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) when operationally required.

The first vehicle in the new fleet carries the prestigious AA 3 registration and has been allocated to current Recovery Patrol of the Year, Megan Tench.

Megan said: "These big yellow trucks are famous for helping AA members get to where they need to be, whatever the time of day, and I know just how much work has gone into making this latest generation the best it can be.

"I'm incredibly proud to be the first patrol to receive one and I'm looking forward to seeing how these innovations make day-to-day life even better while helping us continue delivering the service our members expect."

Patrick Connolly, National & International Key Account Manager at MAN Truck & Bus, said: “Working with Dug, the AA team, Boniface Engineering, and the Dyson Group has been an absolute pleasure. The combined attention to detail throughout the entire process, from the initial conversation through the first vehicle’s arrival, has been an incredible journey and a valuable learning experience.”

“Having a close, open, and trusted relationship with The AA gives us a solid understanding of the operation and how our high level of service adds value. We were delighted to see the first vehicle, AA 3, join the AA recovery fleet, and we very much look forward to continuing this relationship,” Patrick concluded.

The new recovery trucks form part of The AA's ongoing fleet replacement programme, ensuring patrols have the latest technology and equipment to continue delivering safe, reliable roadside assistance across the UK.

Ends

Automation,Truck

MAN is thereby approaching its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated goal of reducing site-related emissions by 70 per cent compared to 2019 levels by 2030. This is according to the company's newly published Sustainability Report. The reduction is the result of a consistent transition in energy supply, infrastructure, and production processes.

MAN has increased its share of renewable energy through self-generation, long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and the procurement of certified green electricity. Photovoltaic installations are being expanded across sites. In Munich, MAN is also preparing for the construction of a geothermal energy facility in order to progressively replace fossil-based heat and sustainably improve the greenhouse gas balance at its largest production site. In addition, the company is systematically modernising energy-intensive equipment and implementing further efficiency programmes in production. The increasing electrification of the company's own corporate vehicle fleet also contributes to the reduction of emissions.

Electrification of the Product Portfolio

The Sustainability Report 2025 shows that over 95 per cent of MAN's greenhouse gas emissions arise during the use phase of its vehicles. The fleet GHG output per vehicle kilometre of MAN-sold trucks, buses, and vans (Scope 3, Category 11) is to be reduced by 28 per cent compared to 2019 by 2030. Accordingly, the decarbonisation strategy is consistently focused on the electrification of the vehicle portfolio. In the 2025 reporting year, a reduction of 16 per cent compared to 2019 was achieved in this area.

With the start of series production of the battery-electric trucks MAN eTGX and MAN eTGS at the Munich site, the transition from testing to scaling has been completed. In 2025, MAN already sold more than 620 electric trucks, thereby supporting numerous transport and logistics companies in reducing their transport emissions.

MAN is also recording strong growth in the bus segment: fully electric city and intercity buses are in operation in many European cities. In 2025, sales of electric service buses rose by 118 per cent to more than 1,300 vehicles – a new record. With the MAN Lion's Coach E, the company is extending its electric offering into the coach travel sector for the first time. The first battery-electric MAN coaches are expected to be delivered to customers across Europe by the end of 2026.

Overall, MAN increased sales of fully electric vehicles in 2025 by 168 per cent to 1,970 units. By 2030, approximately 40 per cent of MAN vehicles sold in Europe are to be fully electric.

Decarbonisation of Own Transport Processes

MAN is also driving the gradual electrification of its inbound logistics and, in 2025, issued tenders for the deployment of battery-electric trucks on an initial approximately 40 routes covering up to 165 million kilometres annually. Series operation has been under way since the beginning of this year.

In outbound logistics, MAN is working together with logistics partner VEGA International on an intermodal concept combining rail transport for the main haul and the MAN eTGX for the "last mile". By the end of 2026, a further 30 to 40 fully electric trucks are to be deployed in vehicle delivery operations.

"The greatest lever for climate action lies in vehicle operation – and that is precisely where we are accelerating electrification. At the same time, we are demonstrating within our own sphere of influence that we deliver on our commitments: at our company sites, we have reduced emissions by 67.9 per cent since 2019. And we are also electrifying our own transport processes – from inbound to outbound. This is how we make climate action measurable: in business operations, in the use phase, and along the value chain," explains Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus.

Sustainability Anchored in Corporate Strategy

Under the motto "Simplifying Sustainability", MAN has now published its Sustainability Report 2025. In addition to climate and energy topics, the report documents further progress, including in the areas of circular economy, supply chain responsibility, occupational safety, and skills development.

The full Sustainability Report 2025 is available for download here:

Link module

MAN Sustainability Report 2025opens in new window

Automation,Digitalisation,E-Mobility,Engines & Components,Sustainability,Research & Development

The 16-tonne truck with a range of up to 480 kilometres is celebrating its premiere at the Transpotec Logitec commercial vehicle trade fair in Milan on 13 May 2026, closing the gap between the lightweight MAN eTGL and the heavy-duty eTGX and eTGS series. For the first time, MAN is thus offering a consistent, uniform eTruck portfolio of 12 to 50 tonnes based on a modular, cross-series technology concept.

With its permissible gross weight of 16.01 tonnes (optionally 16.5 tonnes) and a chassis payload of up to around 10.6 tonnes, the MAN eTGM offers significant reserves for a wide range of bodies. As an all-electric truck in the over 16-tonne segment, customers in many European markets benefit from significant toll advantages.

At the same time, the use of the MAN eTGM enables a significant reduction in fleet emissions and supports transport companies in meeting regulatory requirements such as the EU CO₂ fleet targets for heavy commercial vehicles.

The MAN eTGM is consistently designed to meet the requirements of urban and regional distribution transport. Rising energy prices, stricter emission regulations and increasing noise restrictions make electrically powered commercial vehicles an economically and ecologically attractive alternative, especially in inner-city use. This is exactly where the new eTGM comes in – with a high payload, trailer operation with a gross combination weight of up to 33 tonnes, great operational flexibility and a particularly efficient electric drive train.

"With the MAN eTGM, we are putting the ideal electric solution for inner-city and regional distribution transport on the road right now. It is the logical conclusion to our eTruck portfolio and makes MAN a true full-range supplier of battery-electric commercial vehicles," says Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.

Unified eTruck concept – developed for broad variety of applications

Like all MAN eTrucks, the eTGM is also based on the standardised, modular BEV modular system of the heavy-duty model series. The central drive unit, battery systems, high-voltage architecture and thermal management originate from the eTGX and eTGS development and have been adapted for the mid-range segment. The MAN eCD210 electric drive delivers 210 kW (285 hp) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm in combination with MAN TipMatic 2. The high recuperation performance ensures very good energy efficiency, especially in stop-and-go operation.

A modular battery system with two to four battery packs allows a precise design for the respective application and avoids unnecessary costs and weight. Depending on the configuration, ranges of up to 480 kilometers are possible – ideal for demanding distribution and regional applications.

High variability, full ease of assembly

Typical MAN: The early and systematic involvement of body manufacturers was an integral part of development. Body-friendly interfaces, optimized wheelbases and the availability of a mechanical power take-off shaft (mPTO) – a real unique selling point in the competitive environment – enable the use of common series designs without complex adjustments.

Typical fields of application for the MAN eTGM include food and supermarket logistics, municipal applications, construction and waste disposal transport, and regional distribution transport.

With the introduction of the MAN eTGM, MAN Truck & Bus is continuing its course of actively driving forward the transformation of the transport sector – with the right product at the right time.

MAN Truck & Bus at Transpotec Logitec 2026

At the Italian commercial vehicle trade fair Transpotec Logitec 2026 in Milan, MAN Truck & Bus will be showcasing a wide-ranging portfolio of applications – from heavy-duty long-haul transport, distribution and construction to light commercial vehicles and passenger transport.

The focus is on expanding the range of electric vehicles, in particular the MAN eTGX for heavy-duty long-haul transport, supported by a high-performance charging infrastructure featuring MCS technology, and integrated into a comprehensive ecosystem comprising consultancy, digital solutions and services designed to support decarbonisation.

This is complemented by efficient conventional vehicles such as the MAN TGX D30 and exclusive Individual Lion S models. The range also includes versatile TGS vehicles for construction applications, the MAN TGL for distribution, and bespoke solutions based on the MAN TGE – from panel vans and special-purpose vehicles to minibus variants.

The locally emission-free MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE city bus and the efficient MAN Lion’s Intercity R60 Hybrid are also part of the display. For the first time, the commercial vehicle manufacturer publicly demonstrated bidirectional charging under real-world conditions at the premises of logistics company Spedition Schmid in Obertraubling near Regensburg. The demonstration featured a battery-electric MAN eTGX with 480 kWh of usable energy. The technology has the potential to become a key enabler for cross-sector energy solutions by turning electric trucks into flexible energy storage systems. Instead of only consuming electricity, they can store power and feed it back into other systems as needed – improving fleet economics while also supporting the stability of the energy system.

Georg Grüneißl, Head of Product Strategy at MAN Truck & Bus, said: “Bidirectional charging is transforming the role of the electric truck. Our eTrucks effectively become power banks on wheels that can help lower energy costs while strengthening the energy system as a whole. SPIRIT‑E has demonstrated the substantial potential of this technology and how electric trucks can actively contribute to the energy transition in the future.”

Three applications are at the forefront of practical use. With Vehicle‑to‑Site (V2S) and Vehicle‑to‑Vehicle (V2V), companies use the energy stored in the truck battery directly at their own facilities – for example to avoid peak loads, increase self-consumption of photovoltaic electricity or support building infrastructure. In practice, this can translate into savings of around 10 to 20 percent on electricity costs. With an annual mileage of 100,000 km, this corresponds to up to 20,000 kilometers driven effectively “free of charge.” Bidirectional charging can therefore make a significant contribution to improving the total cost of ownership of electric trucks compared to diesel vehicles.

Vehicle‑to‑Grid (V2G) further expands this potential. In this case, the eTruck feeds electricity back into the public grid – for instance during periods of high electricity prices or to support grid stability. Fleet operators could generate additional revenue streams in the future. By the end of this decade, V2G is expected to become an increasingly attractive business model as energy markets, grid services and logistics processes become more closely integrated.

MAN is the first manufacturer in the commercial vehicle sector to functionally demonstrate bidirectional vehicle technology within a research project. As part of SPIRIT‑E, real energy flows have already been implemented, including supplying a building with electricity overnight using eTrucks or charging electric cars from a truck’s battery. However, bidirectional charging is not suitable for all truck applications – for example, where operations do not allow for longer dwell times at a depot.

SPIRIT‑E is supported by a broad consortium covering the entire value chain, from vehicle technology and the energy industry to system integration. Partners include the Technical University of Munich (TUM) as consortium lead, Fraunhofer IEE, the Research Centre for Energy Economics (FfE), SBRS (Shell), TenneT, Hubject, Consolinno Energy, and MAN Truck & Bus. Together, they have developed solutions that are being tested in a real-world laboratory at a logistics site.

With SPIRIT‑E, MAN demonstrates how electric trucks can evolve beyond their transport function to become an active part of future energy infrastructure - economically viable, digitally connected, and ready for the next stage of electrification.

Automation,E-Mobility,Engines & Components,Research & Development,Services,Sustainability

The company intends to use this investment to create new bases in Europe, modernize existing locations, optimize regional coverage, further improve service quality, and continue to work intensively on making the network fit for electric mobility. At the beginning of the year, the company announced its intention to reduce costs with its "MAN2030+" program in order to be able to make significant investments in growth and innovation. MAN already has an exceptionally strong network of service and sales locations.

There are around 1,200 MAN-owned and partner companies across Europe, with a total of approximately 7,000 employees working in MAN companies. MAN customers across Europe can rely on round-the-clock support, every day of the week. More than 2,000 MAN service centers and cooperation partners provide seamless support via the MAN Mobile24 breakdown and mobility service. In Germany, for example, MAN already has the largest manufacturer-owned service network with more than 340 of its own and partner service locations.

“A strong brand needs a strong service network. We have that – and we are now making it even stronger. Alongside our sales team, our workshops are our public face for our customers. Our strong network is a competitive advantage. We want to expand it further. That is why we are investing heavily here over the next few years, because the combination of product, service, and good quality will become even more important in the coming years, especially against the backdrop of new competitors. We want to set ourselves apart even more clearly and establish ourselves as a sustainable player," says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN. "The commercial vehicle business is significantly more complex and service-intensive than the passenger car business. The daily availability of vehicles is essential for our customers' businesses. To be successful, we need to be very close to our customers and offer top-notch service," Baumann continues.

Shorter distances

In the future, for example, the distances customers have to travel to the workshops will be even shorter. The goal is for almost 80 percent of customers to have a travel time of less than 30 minutes to the next MAN service location. The most important markets in which this goal is to be achieved as a priority and before 2030 include Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Turkey, among others. In certain regions with particularly high logistics requirements, the goal is to be achieved by creating new bases, among other measures. "We are opening an average of seven new branches per year in these countries," said Baumann.

MAN already has 68 service and sales locations in the UK, with around 900 employees in total and 550 in our own branches. A service investment of around 40 million euros is planned for the UK MAN Network by 2030, and several additional UK locations are to be opened by 2031.

Fit for sustainable mobility

MAN is also working flat out at all levels to make its sales and service locations fit for sustainable mobility. By 2026, two out of three bases are to be prepared for e-mobility. Around one third of the planned investments totaling around 300 million euros will therefore be channeled into electromobility and digitalization. This comprises a bundle of measures:

Sales and service staff in Europe are receiving training - around 8,000 employees, from sales representatives to high-voltage mechanics, are undergoing further intensive training on the subject of e-mobility. In Germany, for example, the budget for further training in the field of e-mobility is being doubled as part of the investment program. MAN not only has a highly qualified team, but is also a very good employer. MAN has been named Top Employer 2025 in three European markets – the UK, Spain, and France.

Several MAN-owned battery repair centers are already in operation across Europe, including in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and Italy. Austria acts as a hub for the neighboring countries of Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. Further countries will be connected within the next few months. Through partners, this also already applies to Sweden and will soon apply to the Netherlands. By 2030, the plan is to further expand the network of battery repair centers and to tap into all European markets.

As part of the cooperation with energy company E.ON, a large number of MAN service branches will be equipped with publicly accessible charging points for electric trucks. In total, the cooperation comprises up to 400 charging points at up to 170 locations in Europe, including up to 125 locations in Germany alone. The German locations in Berlin-Wildau, Fürstenwalde, and Karlsfeld, the Austrian location in Eugendorf, and Čestlice in Czechia are already live. Further stations will be opened in various markets later this year.

The further expansion of photovoltaic systems at MAN branches, together with the widespread installation of LED lighting and state-of-the-art heating systems, is an important step toward sustainability.

The digitization of workshop processes is being consistently driven forward. Service advisors and technicians have already been equipped with iPads to handle service orders, documentation, and communication digitally. In addition, app solutions and artificial intelligence are to support the end-to-end digitization of workshop visits and ensure more efficient processes, greater transparency, and improved service quality for customers.

Automation,Bus,Careers,Coach,E-Mobility,Events & Fairs,Research & Development,Truck,Van

This means that the 12-tonne truck now also enables the locally emission-free and very quiet distribution transport of temperature-sensitive goods, such as foodstuffs. A high-voltage interface enables the refrigeration unit to be supplied directly from the vehicle electrical network – efficiently and weight-optimised. MAN's all-electric refrigerated logistics portfolio thus spans twelve to 42 tonnes.

With a usable battery capacity of 160 kWh, the range of the MAN eTGL is up to 310 kilometres without intermediate charging, depending on the structure and use – more than sufficient for typical day trips in urban and regional distribution transport. Innovative fast-charging technology recharges the two batteries from ten to 80 percent in around 35 minutes. This makes optimal use of break and unloading times and increases the daily range to up to 600 kilometres.

"With the new eTGL for refrigerated logistics, we are significantly expanding the range of applications of our lightweight eTruck. Together with eTGX and eTGS, we now have a highly efficient zero-emission portfolio for temperature-controlled logistics – from inner-city distribution transport to long-distance transport," says Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.

Like its big brothers eTGX and eTGS, the MAN eTGL benefits from current efficiency improvements: more economical auxiliary systems, more consistent waste heat utilisation and improved driving functions increase the range by around ten per cent. An eTGX semitrailer with six batteries can now reach up to 570 kilometres, an eTGX Solo chassis with box body up to 870 kilometres without intermediate charging

Field-proven efficiency from the MAN eTruck modular system

The MAN eTGL is based on the proven 12-tonne model from the diesel portfolio. With a payload of up to 6.6 tonnes, a wheelbase of 4,500 mm, body lengths of between 6,200 and 7,300 mm and cab access with only one step, the eTGL is ideal for urban distribution transport. The fully digital 12.3-inch display provides information about the charge level, range and energy consumption.

For energy supply and drive, the eTGL uses the same electric component toolkit as the heavy-duty eTruck series MAN eTGX and eTGS. These include the battery packs developed by MAN and produced at the Nuremberg plant, each with a usable battery capacity of 80 kWh, as well as the smallest of the three available drive variants with a 285 hp electric motor and two-speed gearbox, which is centrally installed in the frame.

A special feature of MAN is the modular battery concept specially adapted to commercial vehicles. It enables a large number of individual semitrailer and chassis variants, so that almost all transport tasks previously carried out with diesel trucks can now be carried out fully electrically – from the 42-tonne low-liner for volume transports to classic construction tippers and three-axle waste collectors to the 12-tonne deep-freeze distributor for supermarket delivery.

MAN e-technology has demonstrated strong performance for customers in logistics practice: MAN eTrucks impress with low energy consumption, fast charging and a long range. Around 400 MAN eTGX and eTGS have already covered more than nine million kilometres in customer service in just under a year – with a low average consumption of around 93 kWh per 100 kilometres.

Comprehensive eMobility consulting and services

As with the MAN eTGX and eTGS, 360-degree eMobility Consulting is also available to customers of the MAN eTGL: The advice on switching to electromobility includes, among other things, customer-specific analyses of vehicle deployment and charging infrastructure requirements – especially for refrigerated logistics.

The MAN eTGL in the Solutrans trade fair concept

The MAN eTGL as a refrigerated vehicle will celebrate its world premiere embedded in MAN Truck & Bus' trade fair appearance at Solutrans 2025 (Stand C011 – Hall 3). On more than 1,000 m², MAN will be presenting its complete range of zero-emission solutions. In addition to the eTGL, the heavy-duty electric trucks eTGX and eTGS as well as the hydrogen combustion engine MAN hTGX – winner of the Truck Innovation Award 2025 – are also part of the trade fair appearance. Specialist presentations such as the "MAN Experts Talks" and the 360-degree eMobility consultation round off the concept and show how MAN is facilitating the switch to electric mobility. In addition, visitors can experience a version of the eTGL with a dry freight case for themselves on the outdoor test track.

Automation,Digitalisation,E-Mobility,Engines & Components,Events & Fairs,Sustainability,Truck

Europe’s first electric coach is celebrating its world premiere here and captivating visitors from around the globe. It also impressed the international jury of the Sustainable Bus Award (Sby), composed of industry journalists, who honored it with the prestigious award in the “Coach” category. “This award is a true milestone. It’s the first time an electric bus has received this prize. We’re incredibly proud,” said Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, at the award ceremony at Busworld in Brussels.

The Sby Award has now been presented for the eighth time. As in previous years, the jury recognized only the most innovative and sustainable buses on the European market. “In the past two years, we won the award in the intercity and city bus categories with our MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE and Lion’s City 10 E. This year, our MAN Lion’s Coach E convinced the jury and prevailed over the competition,” explained Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus, adding: “This underscores our leading position in the eBus sector – and we’re very pleased about that.”

The Sby Award is the only European accolade that honors innovative and sustainable technologies shaping the future of mobility. It is awarded by a jury of specialist journalists from ten European countries. They presented the award to the MAN Lion’s Coach E because the eCoach sets technological standards for sustainable long-distance travel. The coach features a fully electric drivetrain with a continuous output of 330 kW and a usable battery capacity of up to 480 kWh, enabling fast charging and a range of up to 650 kilometers – ideal for tourism. The MAN Lion’s Coach E also excels in safety, equipped with an advanced driver assistance package including Emergency Brake Assist EBA Plus with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control ACC with Stop & Go function, lane-keeping assist, the OptiView mirror replacement system, and the innovative MAN Safe StopAssist. These technologies ensure compliance with the latest active and passive safety standards. In terms of comfort, the vehicle offers numerous options and solutions for a customizable and barrier-free interior. The jury particularly emphasized the sustainability aspect: the model achieves a recycling rate of over 95% of its components, is manufactured in facilities certified to international environmental standards, and features responsible battery lifecycle management.

“That our eCoach received such a prestigious bus award at its world premiere is a tremendous success. Behind it is a dedicated team passionately committed to sustainable and innovative solutions,” concluded Oktay, adding: “Our goal is for all our eBuses to impress every day – with range, reliability, comfort, and environmental friendliness that excite drivers, passengers, and operators alike.”

Bus,Coach,E-Mobility,Corporate,Awards,Automation

Following the success of the Lion's City E family, with almost 3,000 e-buses already produced for urban and interurban use, the company is now setting the next milestone in sustainable mobility. The fully electric coach uses the proven drive technology from the successfully series-produced eTruck and innovative NMC battery packs. These are manufactured in large series at the Nuremberg plant. "By drawing on proven components from the truck sector and our many years of experience with electric city buses, bus operators benefit from high reliability and synergy effects in service and spare parts supply," says Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus. The Lion's Coach E has a usable energy capacity of 320 to 480 kWh. Under optimal conditions, it can achieve ranges of up to 650 kilometres – a distance that allows many typical travel routes to be covered without recharging. In addition to the technology, the smart design concept, which significantly reduces the drag coefficient (Cw value), is also impressive. At the same time, the eCoach offers space for up to 63 passengers without any restrictions on luggage volume compared to the diesel version.

Lion’s City E model year 2025 with new MAN BatteryPack

A second highlight at the MAN stand is the Lion's City 12 E LE, which will be presented at the trade fair with numerous innovations for the 2025 model year. The vehicle thus represents the next major product update of the successful Lion's City E. Particular focus is on the new battery generation with the latest lithium-ion battery technology (NMC) from MAN's own production facility in Nuremberg. Production of the MAN BatteryPack is currently being ramped up there to a capacity of up to 50,000 units per year. The new packs feature even higher energy density, optimised safety systems and improved charging flexibility. For operators, drivers and passengers, this means greater efficiency and safety. In addition, the low-entry bus on display has Class II approval – another world premiere at the exhibition stand.

NEOPLAN Skyliner and Tourliner: exclusivity meets innovation

The premium brand NEOPLAN is also making a special impression at Busworld Europe. Two coaches are causing a stir in Brussels: the NEOPLAN Skyliner "Auwärter Edition", which is celebrating its trade fair premiere, pays tribute to the brand's heritage as a limited special edition. With its aerodynamic "Sharp Cut" design, state-of-the-art technology and nostalgic features, it combines tradition and the future. Another real eye-catcher is the NEOPLAN Tourliner C, whose D2676 LOH engine with increased power and torque, optimised drivetrain and 353 kW (480 hp) delivers fuel savings of up to 2.5 per cent. The latest member of the NEOPLAN family scores not only in terms of comfort and economy, but also in terms of functionality and safety. The Tourliner, which can be seen at the trade fair in an eye-catching "Safe and Secure" design, is equipped with numerous assistance systems, including the innovative MAN SafeStop Assist.

MAN TGE Next Level as the basis for advanced minibuses

The completely revamped MAN TGE Coach is also celebrating its trade fair premiere at the Busworld stand. It is part of the further developed minibus portfolio based on the completely redesigned base vehicle of the 2025 model year – the MAN TGE Next Level. The minibus impresses with innovative safety systems and an ergonomic driver's workplace with a digital cockpit and multifunction steering wheel.

MAN Lion’s Intercity EfficientHybrid – efficiency in intercity transport

Outside the exhibition hall – in the immediate vicinity of the MAN stand in Hall 4 – visitors can also expect another world premiere: the MAN Lion’s Intercity with EfficientHybrid drive. The technology, which has already caused a stir in the current Lion’s City generation and in the Lion’s Intercity low-entry models, is now also being introduced in the high-floor segment. Energy is recovered and stored during braking. When stationary, the D15 diesel engine can be switched off thanks to start-stop technology – for silent stops and lower emissions. In addition, the stored energy supports the engine in boost mode, which saves fuel and reduces pollution.

More than just vehicles: services and digital solutions

MAN sees sustainable mobility as a holistic task. That is why, in addition to pioneering vehicles, the company is also presenting a "NEOPLAN eCoach 2040 Future Concept" and an "Innovation Corner" on the topic of design at Busworld – with concepts for the use of sustainable materials, for example in bus seats for the journeys of tomorrow. Extensive services will also be presented: MAN Transport Solutions offers tailor-made solutions for the transition to eMobility – from charging infrastructure and deployment planning to TCO calculations. MAN DigitalServices' digital services also support operators in the efficient control of their vehicles, for example through fleet management, predictive maintenance and consumption analyses.

"Our customers can expect not only state-of-the-art vehicles from us, but also a complete all-round offering in terms of sustainable mobility – from batteries and consulting to digital tools," says Robert Katzer, Head of Sales & Product Bus, adding: "Our goal is to play a key role in shaping the future of bus transport. With several premieres, the next generation of batteries, our expanded electric portfolio, exclusive NEOPLAN solutions, innovative hybrid technologies and comprehensive services, we as a company are sending a clear signal for sustainable and economical mobility."

Automation,Bus,Coach,Digitalisation,E-Mobility,Events & Fairs,Neoplan,Research & Development,Sustainability

This underlines the practical suitability of MAN's electric trucks for a wide range of transport tasks. Using 100 per cent green electricity, the approximately 200 battery-electric trucks with an average consumption of 90 kWh per 100 km, which MAN put into customer use even before the start of series production, would have saved around 3,600 tonnes of CO2 in operation – compared to diesel trucks with a consumption of around 27 litres per 100 kilometres. Assuming that each of these vehicles covers 1.2 million kilometres in its lifetime, these eTrucks alone could save a total of around 172,000 tonnes ofCO2 under the same conditions. That is roughly the same amount of carbon dioxide emitted annually by a German city with a population of 32,000.

Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, says: "The five million kilometres covered in customer use are impressive proof of the practical suitability of our MAN eTrucks. Whether in automotive, timber or food logistics, the versatility of the vehicles is convincing across all industries. With our series production, we are now broadening this strength and providing our customers with the best solutions for sustainable road freight transport."

Start of series production and growing demand

In June 2025, series production of the eTGX and eTGS began at the MAN plant in Munich – vehicles that are particularly suitable for use on medium and long distances or in the construction or municipal sectors. The innovative mixed production line, which manufactures both diesel and electric trucks on a single line, can produce up to 100 vehicles per day. The goal is to exceed the 1,000 order mark for electric trucks by the end of the year. The demand for e-trucks is impressive: shortly after the start of series production, MAN already has almost 800 heavy-duty electric trucks in its order books. In the first half of 2025, MAN recorded growth in electric vehicles of 238 per cent compared to the same period last year – but still from a low base.

More and more logistics companies are relying on MAN eTrucks

The list of companies already relying on MAN eTrucks is growing steadily. At the Behrens Group, one of Germany's leading timber wholesalers, MAN eTGX trucks have already clocked up over 50,000 km in fully electric mode. The eTrucks are equipped with swap bodies for electric forklifts and are partly charged with their own photovoltaic electricity. In France, the Jacky Perrenot Group, one of Europe's largest food transport companies, has taken delivery of the first vehicles. The order comprises a total of more than 100 eTrucks. In the Netherlands, logistics service providers Cornelissen, van Doorn and Koopman are using the first eTrucks for urban and regional distribution transport. In Poland, Danone is using fully electric MAN trucks for food transport, thereby reducing its carbon footprint along the supply chain. In Portugal, the freight forwarder TJA is strengthening its fleet with eTrucks for national logistics tasks. In the far north, Nor Tekstil, Norway's largest textile service provider, has taken delivery of its first MAN eTrucks, and in Denmark, the beverage group Royal Unibrew is relying on fully electric trucks for more sustainable deliveries to retailers. MAN is also seeing growing interest in electric trucks in the municipal sector: among other things, an Austrian association of twelve cities and municipalities has agreed a framework contract for up to 45 vehicles.

Automation,E-Mobility,Engines & Components,Research & Development,Sustainability

Thanks to the existing exemption from the night-time driving ban on the A12 (Inntal motorway), eTrucks are allowed to drive at night, unlike diesel trucks. The aim of the project is to ease traffic flows on the Brenner Pass, avoid congestion, reduce CO2 and noise emissions, and increase security of supply – especially during the holiday season.

“E-trucks can be an important part of the solution for Alpine freight transport on the Brenner route. If we take the transport transition seriously, we must also make road freight transport more sustainable. The night-time use of e-trucks shows that less CO₂, less noise and better use of infrastructure are possible. This is an important signal for green commercial vehicle corridors throughout Europe. Now it is important to consistently expand the charging infrastructure across borders,” says Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport.

Competitive advantage for freight forwarders – predictable supply chains

Night-time transport with eTrucks across the Brenner Pass has been possible in principle since 2021. However, there has been a lack of widespread vehicle availability and charging infrastructure for long-distance transport. With the MAN eTruck, which has been in series production in Munich since June 2025, daily ranges of up to 800 km can be easily achieved with one intermediate charge in both winter and summer. Thanks to an exemption from the night-time driving ban on the Inntal motorway (A12) in Tyrol, the fully electric truck can operate cross-border at night on the entire route between Germany and Italy – for example, from Munich to Verona or from Rosenheim via the Brenner Pass to Bolzano and back.

This means that eTrucks can now cover routes that were previously impossible for diesel trucks due to night-time driving bans – a real step forward for efficient, quiet and emission-free night-time logistics in the Alpine region and particularly interesting for transport in the refrigerated and pharmaceutical logistics sectors or for time-critical supply chains. In this way, eTrucks relieve the Brenner route during low-traffic night-time hours. A model calculation shows that just 300 eTrucks operating at night can reduce block clearance in Kufstein by up to one hour during the day. At the same time, they make an important contribution to climate protection: each eTruck saves an average of around 95 tonnes of CO₂ per year – with an annual mileage of 110,000 km. With just 300 vehicles per day, this results in annual savings of up to 28,000 tonnes of CO₂, which is equivalent to the emissions of a small town.

“Electric heavy-duty logistics is revolutionising road freight transport – even under the most demanding topographical conditions that prevail in alpine regions. With this project, we are demonstrating that fully electric trucks are not only practical, but also set new standards in efficiency, sustainability and traffic control thanks to features such as recuperation and the possibility of night-time transport. Politics and industry must work hand in hand to make emission-free logistics a reality across the board,” says Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research & Development at MAN Truck & Bus.

eTrucks on the Brenner Pass: Economical, reducing traffic, protecting the climate

The use of electric trucks on the Brenner route not only makes sense in terms of avoiding traffic jams and congestion, but also from an economic perspective. With an annual mileage of over 110,000 kilometres on German motorways, this results in toll savings of over 60,000 euros per vehicle per year – a clear economic advantage for the use of battery-powered trucks. The 100% toll exemption currently applies exclusively in Germany. EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas recently recommended extending the toll reduction for electric trucks, which was previously limited to the end of 2025, until mid-2031. The aim is to increase investment security for logistics companies and accelerate the switch to e-mobility.

Different rules apply in other countries: on the A13 in Austria, e-trucks are charged up to 75 per cent less toll, especially at night. In Italy, on the other hand, there are only marginal differences in tolls between diesel and e-trucks on the route via the Brenner Pass to Bolzano.

Over a period of three years, a typical usage scenario for trucks in logistics, the toll savings of the eTruck contribute to a total cost advantage (total cost of ownership) of over 15 percent compared to diesel-powered vehicles on the Brenner route. In addition to lower tolls, lower energy and maintenance costs, exemption from vehicle tax and the increasingly available charging infrastructure along the route contribute to the economic efficiency. Example charging scenarios show that charging costs around 0.41 euro/kWh at night in Raubling and around 0.38 euro/kWh in Bolzano. In addition, recuperation on the mountainous route increases to up to 40%. While braking energy is lost unused in diesel trucks, the eTruck stores it as electricity back in the battery – a clear efficiency advantage.

Significantly reduced noise pollution – a win for residents and the environment

Battery-powered trucks also significantly reduce noise emissions compared to diesel trucks. In acoustic tests, the eTruck was perceived as around half as loud as a conventional diesel truck when accelerating. Specifically, this results in a difference in noise level of around twelve decibels. This roughly corresponds to the difference between a main road and a quiet street in a residential area. A real benefit for residents and the environment along the Brenner route.

Dettendorfer as a pioneering logistics partner

“For us, it's clear: if we want to make the shift to climate-friendly logistics, we need solutions that work in everyday life – across national borders and without compromising on service,” says Georg Dettendorfer, Managing Director of Spedition Dettendorfer. The family-run Spedition Dettendorfer, based in Raubling, is considered a pioneer in sustainable logistics. As a long-standing innovation partner of MAN, Dettendorfer has been testing alternative drive systems in real-world operations for several years – now for the first time in cross-border night-time operations. Dettendorfer Energy GmbH also plays a central role as a first mover and important partner in the project by setting up a charging infrastructure for freight transport in Upper and Lower Bavaria and Tyrol.

Automation,E-Mobility,Sustainability,Truck

To mark the anniversary, around 8,000 employees and their families are invited to a big celebration on the factory premises on June 28, 2025. A total of around 20,000 guests from the company are expected to attend. A Ferris wheel, beer tent, and many other attractions will create an Oktoberfest atmosphere – in the middle of summer.

MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp said: “We can all be proud of the history of this location. The development and series production of our eTruck ‘made in Munich’ is the latest proof of the plant's innovative strength and versatility, as well as a historic milestone for MAN and the location. Together, we have always found the right solutions to every challenge and successfully combined history and modernity. This powerful tradition also provides a solid foundation on which to build the future.”

Oktoberfest at MAN

A giant Ferris wheel around 40 meters high is being built at the plant especially for the celebrations, with space for 200 passengers – including panoramic views of the plant, Munich, and the Alps. The Ferris wheel is owned by the Landwermann family of showmen. Appropriately, they drive exclusively MAN trucks. For “reasons of quality and tradition.” And good logistics are also needed to deliver the 2,500 tons of material for the Ferris wheel.

O'zapft is – beer comes electrically and by horse-drawn carriage

No traditional folk festival would be complete without beer. This comes from the Paulaner Brewery in Munich. Paulaner also delivers the beer in MAN trucks. And even in fully electric trucks – because Paulaner purchased two of the fully electric trucks immediately after series production started at the MAN plant in Munich. And, as is fitting, in addition to the eTruck, a horse-drawn carriage also delivers beer kegs to the plant. That's how tradition and modernity go hand in hand. And then it's time to say: O'zapft is!

There is also a huge supporting program: There is something for everyone, especially kids – from a bouncy castle to the opportunity to design their own MAN vehicle of the future at the interactive AI stand. There are also lots of historical stalls, carousels, a swing boat, a brass band from Karlsfeld, a future workshop, and a look at the mobility of the future. In addition: Forty historic vehicles, including the eTruck and the current team buses of FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich.

1.25 million trucks built between the castle and the test track

Around 8,000 employees develop and produce heavy trucks and components at the site. Since 1955, 1.25 million trucks, two million cabs and three million axles have been manufactured here. The plant covers an area of around one million square meters – that's about 140 soccer fields.

Since 1955, the hall space on the factory premises has been continuously expanded. In 2008, the two administration buildings on Dachauer Straße were built, followed later by the Truck Forum and the Bus Forum. These serve as exhibition and event space and for handing over vehicles to customers. From 2016, further buildings were added to the factory premises with the construction of the new paint shop and the state-of-the-art body shop, as well as the engineering and testing building.

The plant also has its own test track, a neo-Gothic castle, and its own combined heat and power plant for sustainable energy supply. MAN has also launched a geothermal project in Munich-Karlsfeld to heat its own production facilities and the municipality's district heating network simultaneously from 2028. By 2030, MAN aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at its sites worldwide by 70 percent compared to 2019. At the end of 2024, the reduction was already almost 60 percent.

Automation,E-Mobility,Events & Fairs,MAN SE,Sustainability,Truck

MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp and MAN Executive Board Member for Production & Logistics Michael Kobriger, together with Manfred Weber, Member of the European Parliament and Chairman of the EPP, gave the go-ahead at the Munich plant. From now on, both electric and diesel trucks will be produced in a fully integrated mixed production process on the same line.

“The future of MAN begins now”

Alexander Vlaskamp: “The start of series production of our electric trucks is historic. It marks a turning point in our history! The future of MAN begins now, at this very moment. The entire MAN team is proud to be actively shaping the transformation from diesel to electric drive. Our highly efficient electric trucks will make locally emission-free freight transport a reality. This is an enormously important step towards achieving our goal of becoming CO2-neutral by 2050. The fact that we can manufacture the electric trucks on the same production line as our state-of-the-art diesel trucks also gives us enormous flexibility and increases production efficiency.” He continues: “We have invested almost 400 million euros in research and development to be able to offer our conventional truck product portfolio with battery-electric drive as well. The range extends from 12 to 50 tonnes and covers everything from refuse collection vehicles to long-haul trucks. We have done our homework. We aim to deliver the first 1,000 electric trucks by the end of the year. Depending on their use and electricity mix, this would save CO2 emissions comparable to those of a small town. That is enormous leverage! Politicians must now set the right course with regard to infrastructure expansion and CO2 pricing so that the ramp-up in e-mobility continues to gain momentum.”

Manfred Weber adds: “Innovation and technology are not only the key to Europe's economic success and international competitiveness, but also crucial for reconciling economic and climate policy goals. MAN is leading the way with its etruck and showing what lower-emission freight transport can look like.”

Munich ready for e-mobility: diesel and electric on the same line

Michael Kobriger, Member of the Executive Board for Production & Logistics: “We are investing around one billion euros in the conversion to electrification of our European plants in this decade – a large part of this in Germany. This is also a strong industrial policy signal for Bavaria as a business location, as we are actively shaping the transformation in Nuremberg and Munich.”

The transformation is now clearly visible at MAN's main plant. Maximum production capacity currently stands at around 100 trucks per day, regardless of the drive type. It takes around eight hours to manufacture a truck.

“The production of electric or diesel trucks on a single line can be flexibly adapted to market developments, and the vehicles can be built exactly in the order in which they are ordered by customers. This innovative concept is accompanied by extensive changes along the assembly line as well as in the supply chain and logistics,” says Kobriger.

For example, while combustion engines are initially fitted with axles, tanks and exhaust systems, the electric models are instead fitted with two batteries under the cab together with other electrical components – the so-called power pack. More than 5,000 employees have been trained in high-voltage technology for this transformation.

700 electric trucks sold – up to 740 kilometres range without charging

Before starting series production, MAN has already manufactured almost 200 electric pre-series trucks and delivered them to customers. These vehicles have already clocked up around two million kilometres in real customer use on European roads – some with daily journeys of up to 850 kilometres and very low consumption of 97 kWh per 100 kilometres on average. MAN has already received around 700 orders for electric trucks. The etruck is particularly attractive for use in automotive logistics, among other things, as the Ultra-Lowliner semi-trailer tractor is unique on the market with its fifth-wheel height of just 950 mm and a wheelbase of 3.57 metres. This means that fully electric transport with an internal loading height of three metres is also possible. The electric Ultra Lowliner is already in use in Wolfsburg and Bavaria for automotive supply in various route profiles.

Another advantage of the etruck is its three to six modular NMC batteries, which come from the MAN plant in Nuremberg and offer a total gross capacity of up to 534 kWh. This means that up to 500 kilometres can be covered without recharging. For even greater ranges, there is even an optional seventh battery, which makes it possible to drive up to 740 kilometres on battery power without recharging.

Also a pioneer in electric buses

MAN already offers not only the widest range of electric trucks, but also electric buses. There are over a million configuration options for electric trucks alone, providing tailor-made solutions for all common transport applications. MAN is the market leader in Europe for electric city buses, which have been manufactured at its plant in Starachowice, Poland, for some time now, and was also the first European manufacturer to present an electric coach in Ankara. More than 2,500 MAN buses with battery-electric drives are currently in operation in European cities. In the new model year, these will be equipped with batteries from Nuremberg, just like the trucks. MAN has invested 250 million euros in the construction of a battery pack production facility there.

CO2 neutral by 2050

MAN Truck & Bus aims to become CO2-neutral by 2050. Electrifying the vehicle fleet is essential for achieving sustainability goals, as around 95 percent of MAN's total emissions are attributable to its vehicles in operation. Etrucks are also hugely important for meeting the European Union's current CO2 targets: MAN aims to deliver more than 1,000 eTrucks to its customers by 2025. Compared to 1,000 diesel trucks with an annual mileage of 120,000 kilometres and an average consumption of 24 litres, these first electric trucks alone could save up to 80,000 tonnes of CO2 in one year if they were powered by 100 percent green electricity. This is roughly equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of a small German town.

Automation,Digitalisation,E-Mobility,Engines & Components,Events & Fairs,Research & Development,Sustainability,Truck

Immediately after the ceremonial handover of the vehicles by Friedrich Baumann, Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, to Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, the drivers themselves transferred their new trucks to the respective DB Schenker locations throughout Germany. From there, the MAN eTGX Ultra semitrailer tractors, which have been specially developed for high loading volume requirements and allow the use of corresponding mega trailers with an interior height of three metres, will be on the road.

These trailers have been used specifically in the automotive segment for years, but also in other areas with high loading space requirements. The high loading volume helps to make transport more environmentally friendly and, in combination with the all-electric MAN eTGX Ulra Low Liner, sustainably reduce CO2 emissions. DB Schenker and MAN have agreed in a Letter of Intent (LOI) 2023 that 100 of the electric lorries will be added to the fleet by 2026.

During the handover of the first MAN eTGX, the two companies also signed a further letter of intent for the delivery of 50 MAN eTGLs. The all-electric 12-tonne truck for urban freight transport can be ordered from April 2025 and is intended to supplement DB Schenker's electric fleet in distribution logistics.

‘We are very proud that the first ten MAN eTGX are now in daily logistics use for DB Schenker. The sustainable decarbonisation of freight transport is our common goal. The new MAN eTruck is not only locally CO2-free, but also fulfils the diverse requirements of our customers. Volume transport is one example of this. No other series-produced electric semitrailer tractor on the market offers such a short wheelbase with maximum battery capacity for trailers with an interior height of three metres. The fact that DB Schenker also wants to rely on MAN for electric distribution transport with the eTGL confirms that our eTruck portfolio offers the right solution for every transport sector,’ explains Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.

DB Schenker is driving forward the drive revolution in the fleet

DB Schenker has been pursuing a consistent sustainability strategy for many years. In addition to a continuous switch to alternative drive systems, this also includes a permanent increase in efficiency in logistics.

‘As a pioneer in the transition to zero-emission drives, DB Schenker will continue to invest in sustainable solutions in the future. We are delighted to be the first customer to have the opportunity to put a fleet of 10 MAN eTGXs into operation. Some vehicles will be used in daily scheduled services in our general cargo network in two-shift operation, for example in a daily round trip between our locations in Dortmund and Hanover. Other vehicles will be deployed specifically for our customers in the automotive and consumer sectors,’ explains Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, and Marc Pühler, Senior Vice President System Operations at DB Schenker in Europe, adds: ’Today is a special day for DB Schenker. In addition to taking delivery of the first long-haul electric trucks from MAN, we have signed a letter of intent to take delivery of 50 MAN eTGL trucks. An electric 12-tonne truck was previously not available on the market. This is changing with the eTGL. The eTGL is ideal for use on the last mile. We are proud to have been able to contribute our expertise to the development and look forward to the first series vehicle.’

MAN eTruck: Technological innovation is the key

The Ultra Low Liner eTruck MAN eTGX is a pioneer in its class: with a semitrailer height of just 950 mm, a very short wheelbase of 3.75 metres and yet maximum battery capacity, it offers a range of around 500 kilometres. This makes it perfect for applications where maximum loading volume up to three metres interior height is crucial. Thanks to its modular battery concept with a choice of four, five or six battery packs and power levels of 449 and 544 hp, it can be optimally adapted to any transport task. In addition to the standard CCS charging technology (up to 375 kW), it can also be ordered with the new MCS standard with up to one megawatt of charging power, which enables even faster intermediate charging during the driver's break from driving. In addition to the MAN eTGX and eTGS for heavy-duty transport tasks, the MAN eTGL rounds off the MAN electric truck portfolio for light distribution transport. With a range of up to 235 kilometres, fast charging in around 30 minutes and a payload of up to 6,600 kilograms, depending on the body, it offers the ideal combination for quiet and locally CO2-free transport in urban goods logistics.

Find the right eMobility solution with 360-degree advice

Transport companies also benefit from MAN's 360-degree eMobility Consulting when switching to electromobility: the advice on switching to electromobility includes customer-specific analyses of vehicle deployment and charging infrastructure requirements. MAN's range of services also includes the provision of charging infrastructure itself through partnerships with charging infrastructure suppliers. In addition, as with conventionally powered trucks, service contracts and financing solutions specially tailored to electric mobility as well as numerous digital services are available for the use of the new electric lions. These include the MAN eReadyCheck, which customers can use to check how their delivery routes can be driven purely electrically, as well as the MAN Charge & Go charging service including charging card, which enables simple, consolidated charging planning and billing for international routes.

Fit for the eTruck with MAN ProfiDrive

‘We train the Future’ is the brand promise of MAN ProfiDrive, MAN's own department for driver training, professional driver qualification and special industry coaching. Training courses for electric vehicles are increasingly in demand from customers. This is because electromobility not only requires knowledge about the safe handling of high-voltage technology, but also significantly changes the driving task. Whereas with diesel engines, braking is avoided as far as possible by adopting a fluid and anticipatory driving style in order to save fuel, a different rule now applies: decelerating with the accelerator pedal is a must in order to recover energy through recuperation. Learning this and putting it into practice is part of the handover training that MAN ProfiDrive offers to all drivers and fleet managers who are switching to electromobility, as it does for DB Schenker.

TIP Group: Flexibility through rental

The first ten MAN eTGXs are being deployed at DB Schenker by the TIP Group, one of the leading manufacturer-independent commercial vehicle rental companies and service providers for the transport and logistics industry. By providing the MAN eTrucks, TIP enables companies such as DB Schenker to react flexibly and quickly to the growing demands of sustainable logistics. ‘Our aim is to equip our customers with modern, environmentally friendly vehicles and support them on their path to greater sustainability,’ explains Oliver Bange, Vice President Central Europe Region of the TIP Group. The company is actively committed to a more sustainable future in the logistics industry. With its focus on the rental of zero-emission vehicles, TIP is making an important contribution to the introduction of zero-emission solutions. This innovative approach not only supports the decarbonisation of the industry, but also consistently drives the transformation towards more climate-friendly logistics.

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs and Transport

The first ten MAN eTrucks for DB Schenker are being funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport as part of the directive on the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drive systems and associated refuelling and charging infrastructure (KsNI). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and applications are approved by the Federal Office of Logistics and Mobility.

About DB Schenker

With around 72,700 employees at over 1,850 locations in more than 130 countries, DB Schenker is one of the world's leading logistics service providers. The company offers land transport, air and sea freight as well as comprehensive logistics solutions and global supply chain management from a single source. The commercial vehicle manufacturer was honoured for its research and development projects in the field of autonomous driving - ANITA and ATLAS-L4. In his laudatory speech, jury chairman Gianenrico Griffini, representing 25 international truck trade journalists, emphasised "the advanced characteristics of both projects, the contribution to hub-to-hub and intermodal transport automation, and the fruitful project cooperation between MAN Truck & Bus, logistics providers, component suppliers, research institutions, and public infrastructure operators" as essential for the Truck Innovation Award 2024 to be presented to the MAN projects ANITA and ATLAS-L4 for autonomous driving.

„The award is not only a great honour for ANITA and ATLAS-L4 and the partners involved. It is also an acknowledgement of the achievements of all our colleagues at MAN, who have been driving automated driving forward with great expertise and passion for many years. Alongside digitalisation and CO2-free drives, this is the third key pillar in the transformation to the climate-friendly, safe, efficient and intelligently networked transport of the future. From 2030, we want to offer autonomous trucks in series production for transport on defined routes between logistics hubs," says Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research and Development at MAN Truck & Bus.

Autonomous trucks are particularly useful for transport on motorways between logistics centres (hub-to-hub): they increase safety by helping to avoid rear-end collisions caused by fatigue, are always particularly energy-efficient and stabilise the logistics flow thanks to their independence from individual driving time breaks. They can also help to alleviate the driver shortage by freeing up drivers for more varied and attractive transport tasks in regional and distribution transport.

ATLAS-L4: autonomous driving on the motorway

"In the ATLAS-L4 project, we are developing autonomous driving on the motorway specifically for the hub-to-hub use case. We are using the framework of the law on autonomous driving passed in Germany in 2021, which already allows the use of driverless lorries on defined routes with technical supervision. We want to test a corresponding prototype vehicle on the road by the end of 2024," says Sebastian Völl, Project Manager Autonomous Driving at MAN Truck & Bus. Since January 2022, MAN Truck & Bus, Knorr-Bremse, Leoni, Bosch, Fernride, BTC Embedded Systems, Fraunhofer AISEC, Technische Universität München, Technische Universität Braunschweig, TÜV SÜD, Autobahn GmbH and the Würzburg Institute of Transport Sciences (WIVW GmbH) have been working together on the research and development project "Autonomous Transport on Motorways and Expressways at Level 4" (ATLAS-L4), which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

ANITA: autonomous driving in a container hub

Together with Deutsche Bahn, Fresenius University of Applied Sciences and Götting KG, MAN investigated the integration of autonomous trucks within logistics hubs as part of the "Autonomous Innovation in Terminal Operations" (ANITA) research and development project, which is also funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. To this end, MAN developed a self-driving lorry that autonomously handles container loading from road to rail with the help of digital mission planning. After six months of practical tests conducted jointly with the partners at the DB Intermodal Services container depot and the DUSS container terminal in Ulm, it was clear at the end of the project in September 2023 that the autonomous truck was up to 40 per cent more productive than conventional vehicles and thus showed great potential to make environmentally friendly combined road and rail freight transport more efficient, predictable and flexible. "The special thing about ANITA was the complete digital integration of the autonomous lorry into the terminal process. This is a general prerequisite for the use of autonomous trucks in logistics," says Amelie Jacquemart-Purson, ANITA project manager at MAN Truck & Bus.

Second Truck Innovation Award for MAN Truck & Bus

This is the second time that the prestigious Truck Innovation Award 2024 has gone to an MAN automation project. In 2019, the automated construction site safety vehicle AFAS won the coveted industry prize at its very first edition.

About the international Truck of the Year

The International Truck of the Year (IToY) award was initially launched in 1977 by the British journalist and legendary editor of TRUCK magazine Pat Kennett. Today, the 24 jury members represent leading commercial vehicle magazines throughout Europe. Moreover, in the last few years, the IToY Group has extended its influence by appointing 'associate members in the growing truck markets of China, India, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Iran, New Zealand, Israel, and Malaysia. The combined truck operator readership of the 24 IToY full-jury members' magazines and those of its ten associate members exceeds 1,100,00

Corporate,Services,Engines & Components,Automation,Awards,Digitalisation,Research & Development
