MAN Truck & Bus SE plans to invest around €300 million in the expansion and further development of its European service network by 2030. This is the largest investment of its kind in MAN's history. The company intends to use this investment to create new bases in Europe, modernize existing locations, optimize regional coverage, further improve service quality, and continue to work intensively on making the network fit for electric mobility. At the beginning of the year, the company announced its intention to reduce costs with its "MAN2030+" program in order to be able to make significant investments in growth and innovation. MAN already has an exceptionally strong network of service and sales locations.  

There are around 1,200 MAN-owned and partner companies across Europe, with a total of approximately 7,000 employees working in MAN companies. MAN customers across Europe can rely on round-the-clock support, every day of the week. More than 2,000 MAN service centers and cooperation partners provide seamless support via the MAN Mobile24 breakdown and mobility service. In Germany, for example, MAN already has the largest manufacturer-owned service network with more than 340 of its own and partner service locations. 

“A strong brand needs a strong service network. We have that – and we are now making it even stronger. Alongside our sales team, our workshops are our public face for our customers. Our strong network is a competitive advantage. We want to expand it further. That is why we are investing heavily here over the next few years, because the combination of product, service, and good quality will become even more important in the coming years, especially against the backdrop of new competitors. We want to set ourselves apart even more clearly and establish ourselves as a sustainable player," says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN. "The commercial vehicle business is significantly more complex and service-intensive than the passenger car business. The daily availability of vehicles is essential for our customers' businesses. To be successful, we need to be very close to our customers and offer top-notch service," Baumann continues. 

Shorter distances  

In the future, for example, the distances customers have to travel to the workshops will be even shorter. The goal is for almost 80 percent of customers to have a travel time of less than 30 minutes to the next MAN service location. The most important markets in which this goal is to be achieved as a priority and before 2030 include Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Turkey, among others. In certain regions with particularly high logistics requirements, the goal is to be achieved by creating new bases, among other measures. "We are opening an average of seven new branches per year in these countries," said Baumann. 

MAN already has 68 service and sales locations in the UK, with around 900 employees in total and 550 in our own branches. A service investment of around 40 million euros is planned for the UK MAN Network by 2030, and several additional UK locations are to be opened by 2031.

Fit for sustainable mobility 

MAN is also working flat out at all levels to make its sales and service locations fit for sustainable mobility. By 2026, two out of three bases are to be prepared for e-mobility. Around one third of the planned investments totaling around 300 million euros will therefore be channeled into electromobility and digitalization. This comprises a bundle of measures: 

• Sales and service staff in Europe are receiving training - around 8,000 employees, from sales representatives to high-voltage mechanics, are undergoing further intensive training on the subject of e-mobility. In Germany, for example, the budget for further training in the field of e-mobility is being doubled as part of the investment program. MAN not only has a highly qualified team, but is also a very good employer. MAN has been named Top Employer 2025 in three European markets – the UK, Spain, and France.
• Several MAN-owned battery repair centers are already in operation across Europe, including in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and Italy. Austria acts as a hub for the neighboring countries of Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. Further countries will be connected within the next few months. Through partners, this also already applies to Sweden and will soon apply to the Netherlands. By 2030, the plan is to further expand the network of battery repair centers and to tap into all European markets.   
• As part of the cooperation with energy company E.ON, a large number of MAN service branches will be equipped with publicly accessible charging points for electric trucks. In total, the cooperation comprises up to 400 charging points at up to 170 locations in Europe, including up to 125 locations in Germany alone. The German locations in Berlin-Wildau, Fürstenwalde, and Karlsfeld, the Austrian location in Eugendorf, and Čestlice in Czechia are already live. Further stations will be opened in various markets later this year.
• The further expansion of photovoltaic systems at MAN branches, together with the widespread installation of LED lighting and state-of-the-art heating systems, is an important step toward sustainability.
• The digitization of workshop processes is being consistently driven forward. Service advisors and technicians have already been equipped with iPads to handle service orders, documentation, and communication digitally. In addition, app solutions and artificial intelligence are to support the end-to-end digitization of workshop visits and ensure more efficient processes, greater transparency, and improved service quality for customers.

Situated on the 8.7-acre grounds of MAN Truck & Bus Manchester, which opened in 2010, this new facility ensures that MAN Truck & Bus UK is well-prepared to train and develop the next generation. 

Housed within the new facility are dedicated electric vehicle bays, offering specialised areas for training and hands-on learning of electric vehicles, and customer vehicle handovers. This allows trainees and technicians to master all aspects of electric vehicle service and repair thoroughly. Additionally, the facility features a dedicated room for high-voltage battery maintenance, equipped with the necessary diagnostic tools for working on electric vehicles.  

“As demand increases for skilled technicians in the rapidly expanding Electric Vehicle market, the facility will provide an environment where apprentices and technicians can qualify in Electric Vehicle maintenance and meet the High-Voltage Electric Vehicle (HV-EV) standard training requirements set by MAN Truck & Bus." Commented Jan.

Along with a brand-new training and learning facility, the new experience centre will also offer space to meet with customers during new vehicle handovers, therefore also serving as a professional vehicle handover and familiarisation centre.

By offering staff better qualifications, this new facility will ensure we continue to grow and offer customers an improved level of service and experience of the MAN brand.”

“To enable our customers and operators to get the best performance out of their new vehicles and to ensure drivers fully understand the latest technologies and assistance systems, this new facility also offers a professional area to deliver in-depth vehicle handover and familiarisation courses. Vehicle handover is an important process where new vehicle features, controls, and technologies are carefully explained to the customer.” Concluded Jan. 

The new centre has already welcomed a new cohort of apprentices. Along with existing apprentice cohorts, they will benefit from the new learning environment. Apprentices will work specifically on MAN Trucks and Vans, no other brands.

MAN Truck & Bus has announced the appointment of Jan Kohlmeier as Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, he will take up his new position on 1st August 2025. 

Jan began his career with MAN Truck & Bus in 2004 and has held various roles in Sales and Customer Service across Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific. Since 2020, Jan has been the Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In a statement, Senior Vice President - Head of Area Europe, MAN Truck & Bus SE, Roman Sitte, said; “We are delighted to have appointed Jan to head the MAN Truck & Bus Team in the UK, a market area of utmost importance to the MAN brand.

Jan’s broad experience within MAN comprehensively demonstrates his deep understanding of the commercial vehicle market and we all wish him well in the future.” 

Jan commented: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to head up MAN Truck & Bus UK and I’m very much looking forward to meeting with customers, the team and the dealer network. I couldn’t be more excited to join the team and as we transition to eMobility, help shape the future of this iconic brand and company.”

Made to feel like Champions the Apprentices enjoyed the thrill, excitement and glamour of F1 with full-motion racing simulators, whilst eating amazing food and networking with other MAN Apprentices, all in an electric atmosphere.

The MAN Apprenticeship program helps develop young people for the network and assists in succession planning and MAN's future growth aspirations. The MAN Apprenticeship Program has seen over 300 apprentices graduate since 2017.

Poppy Butler, Early Careers Business Partner, MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, co-hosted the awards, added, “The MAN Apprentice of the Year competition began in 2001 and there are currently over 160 apprentices training in the MAN network. The MAN Truck & Bus UK Apprenticeship programme is one of the largest in the commercial vehicle industry and continues to generate high-quality staff for the UK MAN dealer network.”

“Today, we see graduates from 2024 who have gone on to develop great careers with MAN Truck & Bus UK - many of our senior staff today began their careers as an apprentice.

Chosen from individual job categories, the finalists were nominated by managers, mentors, assessors and trainers based on their commitment, determination and ability to work as part of a team.

The event, held in Manchester, close to the biggest MAN wholly-owned dealership in the UK, Man Truck & Bus Trafford Park, saw apprentices from all business areas travel from across the country.

“The awards presented honour those who have gone above and beyond both at their workplace and throughout their apprenticeship journey. The experience and learning our apprentices receive will undoubtedly provide the technical expertise and in-depth product knowledge that will enable them to deliver outstanding service to our customers way into the future.

"Having had many conversations with the apprentices throughout the day helps cement the fact that we are not only teaching the next generation the skills they will need to excel in their jobs, but we're also helping them to develop as well grounded young adults able to cope with the daily challenges of life." Torsten succeeds Chris Sharp who is taking up the position of General Manager MAN Sales & Support at MAN Truck & Bus in Australia.

Torsten joined MAN Truck & Bus in Munich in 2010 as a Sales Trainee, and took over the position as Head of Strategy and Business Development for MAN TopUsed in 2011.  From 2014 until 2018, Torsten worked in Berlin and took over the operative responsibility for three TopUsed Centers as Head of Sales Used Region East. In 2018, Torsten moved back to Munich as Head of Used Truck responsible for the worldwide development of the Used truck business within MAN Truck & Bus SE.

Stefan Thyssen, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, said; “We are thrilled to have appointed Torsten into the position of Director of MAN TopUsed here in the UK. With over a decades experience of the MAN TopUsed function, together with his knowledge of the commercial vehicle industry, he will continue to prove a huge asset to the company.

Toni succeeds Tracey Perry who starts a new position as the Sales Director of Truck, Bus & Coach products for MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd.

With over 20 years in the automotive sector within both network and OEM, Toni brings a wealth of experience. During this time she has led successful teams in Retail, SME and had responsibility for the supply and account management of some of the largest commercial fleets in the UK.

Between 1998 and 2006 Toni worked for Reg Vardy PLC, before joining Fiat UK as a National Account Manager in 2008. In 2011 she joined Renault before joining Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK in 2015 as a Key Account Manager. Toni joined MAN Truck & Bus UK in January 2022 as Head of Van Sales (Region North).

Stefan Thyssen, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, commented, “We are delighted to appoint Toni to lead the MAN Truck & Bus UK Van team. MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd has announced the appointment of Tracey Perry as Head of Van for MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd.

Tracey succeeds Daniel Holbein who is leaving Man Truck & Bus UK Ltd to take up a new position in MAN’s headquarters in Munich.

Tracey has extensive experience in the Automotive Industry within both network and OEM, having lead teams in Retail Sales, SME and Corporate Sales. Between 1989 and 1998 Tracey worked with our sister company Audi, before joining Renault in 2001. In 2007 Tracey joined FCA Fiat Professional and in 2015 she joined the Volkswagen Group as National Fleet Sales Manager, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK.

“We are delighted to have appointed Tracey to lead the MAN Truck & Bus UK Van team,” said Stefan Thyssen, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd. “Her wealth of experience within the automotive sector and knowledge of the commercial vehicle industry, will prove a huge asset to the company.

“As you can see from Tracey’s background she is uniquely qualified to take on this responsibility and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge having spent many years leading highly successful sales teams and we all look forward to her joining the MAN brand.”

Glen succeeds Matt Squires who was recently appointed as Director of New Truck Sales for MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd.

Glen joined MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd in 2019 as Head of UK Parts and over the last two years has helped develop and re-structure the function. Originally joining the automotive industry in September 1994, he brings over two decades of experience in the commercial vehicle sector, including previously working in marketing, parts distribution and the management of multiple aftermarket locations.

His experience with the MAN brand and his established customer relationships, together with his knowledge of the commercial vehicle industry, has and will continue to prove a huge asset to the company.

Winner - Manchetts Peterborough.

Manchetts of Peterborough were singled out for their exemplary CXI score, their outstanding MOT performance and their incredible journey with their customer first service commitment and the MAN brand.

In October 2020 Manchetts PB Ltd (trading as Manchetts Peterborough), as part of their development and investment strategy, successfully took over the running of the existing franchised site in in the Fengate area of Peterborough. This newly appointed Manchetts facility provides a one-stop-shop servicing the needs of MAN customers operating Truck, Van, Bus and Coach products throughout Cambridgeshire and Eastern England

Runner up in this category was awarded to DSV Commercials, Immingham. In third place the HRVS Group, Stoke.

MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd’s 2020 Parts Dealer of the Year

Winner – Norscot of Aberdeen.

Throughout 2020 Norscott Aberdeen have exceeded their targets, the entire team have excelled and whole heartedly engaged with campaigns and managed a stock inventory to ensure their customers maximised vehicle uptime.

The team have remained highly focussed throughout 2020, delivering excellence through lockdown and have remained committed to an exceptionally high level of customer service satisfaction.

Runner up in this category was awarded to HRVS Stoke. In third place MAN Truck & Bus Bristol.

MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd’s 2020 Above and Beyond Champion

MAN Truck & Bus UK has announced the appointment of Stefan Thyssen as Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd.

Stefan Thyssen succeeds Thomas Hemmerich who has been appointed the role of Managing Director for the National Sales Company, Korea, which also includes responsibility for the Austral/Asia region.

Currently Head of MAN Truck & Bus Scandinavia, Stefan Thyssen will take up his new position on 1^st July 2021.

Stefan began his career with MAN Truck & Bus in 2007. He has worked in a variety of roles including Business Development, Corporate Planning, Program Management and Group Controlling, all based out of MAN Truck & Bus, Munich, Germany. In 2017 Stefan moved to MAN Truck & Bus UK, into the role of Finance Director, based at UK headquarters in Swindon. In 2020, Stefan became Managing Director of MAN Scandinavia, covering the markets of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, based in Copenhagen.

In a statement, Executive Board Member for Sales & Marketing MAN Truck & Bus SE, Goran Nyberg, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Stefan to lead the team in the UK, a market area which is already, due to his previous role as UK Financial Director, familiar to him.

“Stefan’s broad experience within MAN comprehensively demonstrates a deep understanding of the strategically important UK market. Because of Stefan’s past the relationships with UK customers, the dealer network and the MAN Truck & Bus team is already established and we all wish him well for the future.”

“Given the importance of the UK market, I want to continue the focus of strengthening our established footprint and ensure that our customers receive an industry leading level of support through our mature, highly focussed and strategically located dealer network."

MAN Truck & Bus has announced that Thomas Hemmerich, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd, has been appointed Managing Director of MAN Truck and Bus Korea Ltd.

In his new role, Thomas assumes responsibility for the entire Austral/Asia region. This includes South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Korea is the hub for the region. Given the fact that this region has the biggest growth potential for the future, it is of strategic importance to MAN Truck & Bus. The appointment is effective 1 July 2021.

Thomas joined MAN Truck & Bus UK in 2017 as Managing Director, with responsibility for the truck, van, bus and coach sales, after-sales and the retail and wholesale network in the UK and Northern Ireland.

During his tenure with MAN, Thomas has been responsible for various key markets around the world. For instance, he has headed up MAN Germany, MAN South Africa and also MAN Austria. In his role as Senior Vice-President Sales Management Truck at MAN’s headquarters in Munich, he was also responsible for global truck steering.

Now, Korea beckons – and with it some meaningful opportunities. “Given the strategic importance of this region, I will focus on establishing a strong MAN footprint in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I want to ensure that the awareness of the MAN grows even stronger. The region has massive potential and I look forward to growing both sales and brand loyalty,” he comments.

However, while he relishes these opportunities, he leaves the UK with a heavy heart. “It is with mixed emotions that I will be leaving the UK. I have really enjoyed my time leading the team in the UK. I have been privileged to work with an outstanding team of individuals.”

Thomas has announced that he will be succeeded by an individual who is well-known to the UK market. “I am delighted to announce that Stefan Thyssen – previously financial director of MAN Truck & Bus UK – will be returning to the UK as Managing Director and I would like to take the opportunity to wish him every success in his new role.”

Under his leadership, MAN Truck & Bus UK has performed exceptionally well. In 2019 and then once again in 2020, the company was awarded the coveted Market of the Year accolade. The award celebrates the best of the best within the global sales organisation of MAN and recognises outstanding achievement, commitment to the brand and delivered results. MAN Truck & Bus UK made history within the MAN world by winning the award two years in a row; this has never happened before.

According to Göran Nyberg, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, despite a declining market, MAN Truck & Bus UK has taken a big step forward in overall truck and van share. “Over the last two years, the UK team has realised significant improvements and big deals have been won in both the truck and van market segments.

“MAN Truck & Bus UK has also over-achieved when it comes to after-sales targets and the company has delivered an outstanding service product penetration,” he notes.

Thomas attributes the success of the company to MAN’s superior product range and his extraordinary team, who are dedicated to exceptional customer service. “Our customers are at the epicentre of our business. All our actions are aimed at exceeding their expectations. Hopefully, this award signals that we are achieving this,” he points out.

He says he will miss his team, his dealer network and his UK customers. “I have really enjoyed interacting with all these people. We have an incredible team of people here in the UK, both within the dealer network and at head office. They have my greatest respect, and I would like to wish them well for the future. I hope to see the UK win Market of the Year for the third consecutive row!” Thomas concludes.
