                        <title>On track: MAN significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions at its plants</title>

MAN is thereby approaching its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated goal of reducing site-related emissions by 70 per cent compared to 2019 levels by 2030. This is according to the company's newly published Sustainability Report. The reduction is the result of a consistent transition in energy supply, infrastructure, and production processes.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN has increased its share of renewable energy through self-generation, long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and the procurement of certified green electricity. Photovoltaic installations are being expanded across sites. In Munich, MAN is also preparing for the construction of a geothermal energy facility in order to progressively replace fossil-based heat and sustainably improve the greenhouse gas balance at its largest production site. In addition, the company is systematically modernising energy-intensive equipment and implementing further efficiency programmes in production. The increasing electrification of the company's own corporate vehicle fleet also contributes to the reduction of emissions.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Electrification of the Product Portfolio</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The Sustainability Report 2025 shows that over 95 per cent of MAN's greenhouse gas emissions arise during the use phase of its vehicles. The fleet GHG output per vehicle kilometre of MAN-sold trucks, buses, and vans (Scope 3, Category 11) is to be reduced by 28 per cent compared to 2019 by 2030. Accordingly, the decarbonisation strategy is consistently focused on the electrification of the vehicle portfolio. In the 2025 reporting year, a reduction of 16 per cent compared to 2019 was achieved in this area.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>With the start of series production of the battery-electric trucks MAN eTGX and MAN eTGS at the Munich site, the transition from testing to scaling has been completed. In 2025, MAN already sold more than 620 electric trucks, thereby supporting numerous transport and logistics companies in reducing their transport emissions.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN is also recording strong growth in the bus segment: fully electric city and intercity buses are in operation in many European cities. In 2025, sales of electric service buses rose by 118 per cent to more than 1,300 vehicles – a new record. With the MAN Lion's Coach E, the company is extending its electric offering into the coach travel sector for the first time. The first battery-electric MAN coaches are expected to be delivered to customers across Europe by the end of 2026.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Overall, MAN increased sales of fully electric vehicles in 2025 by 168 per cent to 1,970 units. By 2030, approximately 40 per cent of MAN vehicles sold in Europe are to be fully electric.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Decarbonisation of Own Transport Processes</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN is also driving the gradual electrification of its inbound logistics and, in 2025, issued tenders for the deployment of battery-electric trucks on an initial approximately 40 routes covering up to 165 million kilometres annually. Series operation has been under way since the beginning of this year.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>In outbound logistics, MAN is working together with logistics partner VEGA International on an intermodal concept combining rail transport for the main haul and the MAN eTGX for the "last mile". By the end of 2026, a further 30 to 40 fully electric trucks are to be deployed in vehicle delivery operations.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"The greatest lever for climate action lies in vehicle operation – and that is precisely where we are accelerating electrification. At the same time, we are demonstrating within our own sphere of influence that we deliver on our commitments: at our company sites, we have reduced emissions by 67.9 per cent since 2019. And we are also electrifying our own transport processes – from inbound to outbound. This is how we make climate action measurable: in business operations, in the use phase, and along the value chain," explains Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Sustainability Anchored in Corporate Strategy</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Under the motto "Simplifying Sustainability", MAN has now published its Sustainability Report 2025. The 16-tonne truck with a range of up to 480 kilometres is celebrating its premiere at the Transpotec Logitec commercial vehicle trade fair in Milan on 13 May 2026, closing the gap between the lightweight MAN eTGL and the heavy-duty eTGX and eTGS series. For the first time, MAN is thus offering a consistent, uniform eTruck portfolio of 12 to 50 tonnes based on a modular, cross-series technology concept.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>With its permissible gross weight of 16.01 tonnes (optionally 16.5 tonnes) and a chassis payload of up to around 10.6 tonnes, the MAN eTGM offers significant reserves for a wide range of bodies. As an all-electric truck in the over 16-tonne segment, customers in many European markets benefit from significant toll advantages.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>At the same time, the use of the MAN eTGM enables a significant reduction in fleet emissions and supports transport companies in meeting regulatory requirements such as the EU CO₂&nbsp;fleet targets for heavy commercial vehicles.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The MAN eTGM is consistently designed to meet the requirements of urban and regional distribution transport. Rising energy prices, stricter emission regulations and increasing noise restrictions make electrically powered commercial vehicles an economically and ecologically attractive alternative, especially in inner-city use. This is exactly where the new eTGM comes in – with a high payload, trailer operation with a gross combination weight of up to 33 tonnes, great operational flexibility and a particularly efficient electric drive train.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"With the MAN eTGM, we are putting the ideal electric solution for inner-city and regional distribution transport on the road right now. It is the logical conclusion to our eTruck portfolio and makes MAN a true full-range supplier of battery-electric commercial vehicles," says Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Unified eTruck concept – developed for broad variety of applications</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Like all MAN eTrucks, the eTGM is also based on the standardised, modular BEV modular system of the heavy-duty model series. The central drive unit, battery systems, high-voltage architecture and thermal management originate from the eTGX and eTGS development and have been adapted for the mid-range segment. The MAN eCD210 electric drive delivers 210 kW (285 hp) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm in combination with MAN TipMatic 2. The high recuperation performance ensures very good energy efficiency, especially in stop-and-go operation.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>A modular battery system with two to four battery packs allows a precise design for the respective application and avoids unnecessary costs and weight. Depending on the configuration, ranges of up to 480 kilometers are possible – ideal for demanding distribution and regional applications.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>High variability, full ease of assembly</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Typical MAN: The early and systematic involvement of body manufacturers was an integral part of development.                         <guid>https://press.mantruckandbus.com/united-kingdom/john-g-russell-transport-ltd-the-russell-group-takes-the-lead-with-their-new-all-electric-man-etgx-trucks/</guid><pp:caseid>744556</pp:caseid><pp:subtitle>John G Russell (Transport) Ltd, the Russell Group of Coatbridge, Glasgow, has recently become the first Scottish customer to take delivery of its eagerly anticipated battery-powered MAN eTGX tractors.</pp:subtitle><description><![CDATA[<p>Marking a significant landmark for the Russell Group and a major milestone for MAN Truck & Bus UK, the three all-electric 4x2 tractors are operating from the company’s Coatsbridge container base, moving containers during the day and working on blue-chip contracts at night.</p><p>Speaking of the new arrivals, Stephen Madden, Russell Group Fleet Engineer, enthused, “By investing in cutting-edge technologies such as these three all-electric MAN eTGX tractors, we aim to create a future where supply chains are not only highly effective but also environmentally friendly.</p><p>“The first of the new vehicles arrived in September 2025. Having worked with MAN's electric-vehicle specialist, Roger Turnbull, and our local MAN dealership, and having heard their assurances of satisfaction, we enthusiastically put it into service. I’m delighted to report it's been faultless and has easily exceeded our expectations.</p><p>“This has been a steep learning curve for us all. Our drivers have consistently praised its performance, and those who initially shied away from it have listened to peers' positive feedback and now actively want to drive the vehicles themselves. All have returned from a day's work with a firm smile.”<span>&nbsp;</span></p><p>The Russell Group’s vision is to be recognised as the partner of choice for sustainable road, rail, and warehousing solutions and to lead the way in delivering efficient, innovative, and environmentally responsible logistics services.</p><p>These cutting-edge, fully electric eTGX 4x2 tractors offer Russell Group a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 42,000 kg across five axles, providing a solution that promises to reduce emissions and help them advance toward their sustainability goals and Net Zero commitment.</p><p>Driven by a permanently excited synchronous motor delivering 330 kW (449 PS) and 1,150 Nm of torque, Russell Group’s three eTGX vehicles have a 375 kW DC charging capacity. For easy charging, all three vehicles have CCS charging connectors on both the left and right front sides. The chassis houses 6 x 80 kWh (480 kWh) batteries that power a central drive unit and a 4-speed MAN TipMatic® automated transmission, which in turn drives the rear axle.</p><p>Stephen continued, “At the end of 2025, we took delivery of two more 4x2 eTGX tractors, and like the first vehicle, they hit the road running. I can't say enough positive things about them. Each vehicle is averaging around 400 km per day, which is in line with our fleet average. With our on-site charging facilities, we have no concerns. Overall, it's been an incredibly positive experience.”<span>&nbsp;</span></p><p>“Furthermore, the support we’ve received from MAN and its local dealership in Bellshill has been nothing short of outstanding. Everyone involved has come to the table, listened to our exacting requirements, and delivered. When we’ve encountered a minor issue, usually just a simple misunderstanding, MAN has responded promptly and with confidence. This has been noted and is very much appreciated.”</p><p>All three of the Russell Group's new vehicles have 3,750 mm wheelbases. They sit on a 9,000 kg front axle and an 11,500 kg rear axle. MAN’s range-topping GX High roof sleeper cab sits on top of the4x2 chassis.</p><p>Stephen added, “These are the first all-electric vehicles to join the fleet, so it was of utmost importance for us to specify vehicles that not only met our sustainability requirements but also met the needs of our drivers. They needed to be comfortable, safe, and, above all, provide drivers with a familiar workplace.”<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p>Once seated comfortably, the Russell Group drivers are cosseted by a myriad of creature comforts, including a multifunction leather steering wheel, a driver's seat with air suspension, lumbar support, and shoulder adjustment, a driver’s airbag, 12.3” professional instrumentation, climatronic air conditioning, a fully retractable under-bunk fridge, and 2 bunks with 110 mm comfort mattresses.</p><p>These vehicles are equipped with MAN’s Professional Navigation Media System featuring a 12.3-inch display, the MAN Advanced sound system with a subwoofer, MAN SmartSelect infotainment control with a touchpad and direct access buttons, and integrated smartphone connectivity. Additionally, all three vehicles include MAN’s OptiView mirror-replacement system, an aerodynamic package, a sunshade, automatic wipers with rain sensors, and LED lighting.</p><p>Founded in 1969 by John Russell, who currently serves as Chairman, John G. Russell (Transport) Ltd began with 14 employees and 12 vehicles. Nearly six decades later, the Russell Group has expanded significantly, now operating from 14 depots and UK rail terminals, employing over 740 staff, and managing a fleet of more than 250 vehicles, 850 trailers, and 1,000 intermodal containers. Operating continuously throughout the year, the Russell Group serves several of Europe’s largest Blue-Chip companies.</p><p>Stephen concluded, “At the heart of our success is our people. For the first time, the commercial vehicle manufacturer publicly demonstrated bidirectional charging under real-world conditions at the premises of logistics company Spedition Schmid in Obertraubling near Regensburg.&nbsp;The demonstration featured a battery-electric MAN eTGX with 480 kWh of usable energy. The technology has the potential to become a key enabler for cross-sector energy solutions by turning electric trucks into flexible energy storage systems. Instead of only consuming electricity, they can store power and feed it back into other systems as needed – improving fleet economics while also supporting the stability of the energy system.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Georg Grüneißl, Head of Product Strategy at MAN Truck & Bus, said: “Bidirectional charging is transforming the role of the electric truck. Our eTrucks effectively become power banks on wheels that can help lower energy costs while strengthening the energy system as a whole. SPIRIT</span>‑<span>E has demonstrated the substantial potential of this technology and how electric trucks can actively contribute to the energy transition in the future.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Three applications are at the forefront of practical use.&nbsp;With Vehicle‑to‑Site (V2S) and Vehicle‑to‑Vehicle (V2V), companies use the energy stored in the truck battery directly at their own facilities – for example to avoid peak loads, increase self-consumption of photovoltaic electricity or support building infrastructure.&nbsp;In practice, this can translate into savings of around 10 to 20 percent on electricity costs. With an annual mileage of 100,000 km, this corresponds to up to 20,000 kilometers driven effectively “free of charge.” Bidirectional charging can therefore make a significant contribution to improving the total cost of ownership of electric trucks compared to diesel vehicles.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Vehicle‑to‑Grid (V2G) further expands this potential.&nbsp;In this case, the eTruck feeds electricity back into the public grid – for instance during periods of high electricity prices or to support grid stability.&nbsp;Fleet operators could generate additional revenue streams in the future. By the end of this decade, V2G is expected to become an increasingly attractive business model as energy markets, grid services and logistics processes become more closely integrated.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN is the first manufacturer in the commercial vehicle sector to functionally demonstrate bidirectional vehicle technology within a research project. As part of SPIRIT‑E, real energy flows have already been implemented, including supplying a building with electricity overnight using eTrucks or charging electric cars from a truck’s battery.&nbsp;However, bidirectional charging is not suitable for all truck applications – for example, where operations do not allow for longer dwell times at a depot.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>SPIRIT‑E is supported by a broad consortium covering the entire value chain, from vehicle technology and the energy industry to system integration. This underlines the practical suitability of MAN's electric trucks for a wide range of transport tasks. Using 100 per cent green electricity, the approximately 200 battery-electric trucks with an average consumption of 90 kWh per 100 km, which MAN put into customer use even before the start of series production, would have saved around 3,600 tonnes of CO<sub>2</sub> in operation – compared to diesel trucks with a consumption of around 27 litres per 100 kilometres. Assuming that each of these vehicles covers 1.2 million kilometres in its lifetime, these eTrucks alone could save a total of around 172,000 tonnes ofCO<sub>2</sub> under the same conditions. That is roughly the same amount of carbon dioxide emitted annually by a German city with a population of 32,000.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, says: "The five million kilometres covered in customer use are impressive proof of the practical suitability of our MAN eTrucks. Whether in automotive, timber or food logistics, the versatility of the vehicles is convincing across all industries. With our series production, we are now broadening this strength and providing our customers with the best solutions for sustainable road freight transport."&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Start of series production and growing demand</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>In June 2025, series production of the eTGX and eTGS began at the MAN plant in Munich – vehicles that are particularly suitable for use on medium and long distances or in the construction or municipal sectors. The innovative mixed production line, which manufactures both diesel and electric trucks on a single line, can produce up to 100 vehicles per day. The goal is to exceed the 1,000 order mark for electric trucks by the end of the year. The demand for e-trucks is impressive: shortly after the start of series production, MAN already has almost 800 heavy-duty electric trucks in its order books. In the first half of 2025, MAN recorded growth in electric vehicles of 238 per cent compared to the same period last year – but still from a low base. &nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>More and more logistics companies are relying on MAN eTrucks&nbsp;</strong> &nbsp;</span></p><p><span>The list of companies already relying on MAN eTrucks is growing steadily. At the Behrens Group, one of Germany's leading timber wholesalers, MAN eTGX trucks have already clocked up over 50,000 km in fully electric mode. The eTrucks are equipped with swap bodies for electric forklifts and are partly charged with their own photovoltaic electricity. In France, the Jacky Perrenot Group, one of Europe's largest food transport companies, has taken delivery of the first vehicles. The order comprises a total of more than 100 eTrucks. In the Netherlands, logistics service providers Cornelissen, van Doorn and Koopman are using the first eTrucks for urban and regional distribution transport. In Poland, Danone is using fully electric MAN trucks for food transport, thereby reducing its carbon footprint along the supply chain. In Portugal, the freight forwarder TJA is strengthening its fleet with eTrucks for national logistics tasks. In the far north, Nor Tekstil, Norway's largest textile service provider, has taken delivery of its first MAN eTrucks, and in Denmark, the beverage group Royal Unibrew is relying on fully electric trucks for more sustainable deliveries to retailers. Thanks to the existing exemption from the night-time driving ban on the A12 (Inntal motorway), eTrucks are allowed to drive at night, unlike diesel trucks. The aim of the project is to ease traffic flows on the Brenner Pass, avoid congestion, reduce CO<sub>2</sub>&nbsp;and noise emissions, and increase security of supply – especially during the holiday season.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">“E-trucks can be an important part of the solution for Alpine freight transport on the Brenner route. If we take the transport transition seriously, we must also make road freight transport more sustainable. The night-time use of e-trucks shows that less CO₂, less noise and better use of infrastructure are possible. This is an important signal for green commercial vehicle corridors throughout Europe. Now it is important to consistently expand the charging infrastructure across borders,” says Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport. &nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;"><strong>Competitive advantage for freight forwarders – predictable supply chains</strong>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Night-time transport with eTrucks across the Brenner Pass has been possible in principle since 2021. However, there has been a lack of widespread vehicle availability and charging infrastructure for long-distance transport. With the MAN eTruck, which has been in series production in Munich since June 2025, daily ranges of up to 800 km can be easily achieved with one intermediate charge in both winter and summer. Thanks to an exemption from the night-time driving ban on the Inntal motorway (A12) in Tyrol, the fully electric truck can operate cross-border at night on the entire route between Germany and Italy – for example, from Munich to Verona or from Rosenheim via the Brenner Pass to Bolzano and back.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">This means that eTrucks can now cover routes that were previously impossible for diesel trucks due to night-time driving bans – a real step forward for efficient, quiet and emission-free night-time logistics in the Alpine region and particularly interesting for transport in the refrigerated and pharmaceutical logistics sectors or for time-critical supply chains. In this way, eTrucks relieve the Brenner route during low-traffic night-time hours. A model calculation shows that just 300 eTrucks operating at night can reduce block clearance in Kufstein by up to one hour during the day. At the same time, they make an important contribution to climate protection: each eTruck saves an average of around 95 tonnes of CO₂ per year – with an annual mileage of 110,000 km. With just 300 vehicles per day, this results in annual savings of up to 28,000 tonnes of CO₂, which is equivalent to the emissions of a small town.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">“Electric heavy-duty logistics is revolutionising road freight transport – even under the most demanding topographical conditions that prevail in alpine regions. With this project, we are demonstrating that fully electric trucks are not only practical, but also set new standards in efficiency, sustainability and traffic control thanks to features such as recuperation and the possibility of night-time transport. Politics and industry must work hand in hand to make emission-free logistics a reality across the board,” says Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research & Development at MAN Truck & Bus.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;"><strong>eTrucks on the Brenner Pass: Economical, reducing traffic, protecting the climate</strong>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">The use of electric trucks on the Brenner route not only makes sense in terms of avoiding traffic jams and congestion, but also from an economic perspective. With an annual mileage of over 110,000 kilometres on German motorways, this results in toll savings of over 60,000 euros per vehicle per year – a clear economic advantage for the use of battery-powered trucks. The 100% toll exemption currently applies exclusively in Germany. EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas recently recommended extending the toll reduction for electric trucks, which was previously limited to the end of 2025, until mid-2031. The aim is to increase investment security for logistics companies and accelerate the switch to e-mobility.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Different rules apply in other countries: on the A13 in Austria, e-trucks are charged up to 75 per cent less toll, especially at night. In Italy, on the other hand, there are only marginal differences in tolls between diesel and e-trucks on the route via the Brenner Pass to Bolzano.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Over a period of three years, a typical usage scenario for trucks in logistics, the toll savings of the eTruck contribute to a total cost advantage (total cost of ownership) of over 15 percent compared to diesel-powered vehicles on the Brenner route. In addition to lower tolls, lower energy and maintenance costs, exemption from vehicle tax and the increasingly available charging infrastructure along the route contribute to the economic efficiency. Example charging scenarios show that charging costs around 0.41 euro/kWh at night in Raubling and around 0.38 euro/kWh in Bolzano. In addition, recuperation on the mountainous route increases to up to 40%. While braking energy is lost unused in diesel trucks, the eTruck stores it as electricity back in the battery – a clear efficiency advantage.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;"><strong>Significantly reduced noise pollution – a win for residents and the environment</strong>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Battery-powered trucks also significantly reduce noise emissions compared to diesel trucks. In acoustic tests, the eTruck was perceived as around half as loud as a conventional diesel truck when accelerating. Specifically, this results in a difference in noise level of around twelve decibels. This roughly corresponds to the difference between a main road and a quiet street in a residential area. A real benefit for residents and the environment along the Brenner route.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;"><strong>Dettendorfer as a pioneering logistics partner&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">“For us, it's clear: if we want to make the shift to climate-friendly logistics, we need solutions that work in everyday life – across national borders and without compromising on service,” says Georg Dettendorfer, Managing Director of Spedition Dettendorfer. Since 1955, 1.25 million trucks, two million cabs and three million axles have been manufactured here. The plant covers an area of around one million square meters – that's about 140 soccer fields.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Since 1955, the hall space on the factory premises has been continuously expanded. In 2008, the two administration buildings on Dachauer Straße were built, followed later by the Truck Forum and the Bus Forum. These serve as exhibition and event space and for handing over vehicles to customers. From 2016, further buildings were added to the factory premises with the construction of the new paint shop and the state-of-the-art body shop, as well as the engineering and testing building.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:left;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">The plant also has its own test track, a neo-Gothic castle, and its own combined heat and power plant for sustainable energy supply. MAN has also launched a geothermal project in Munich-Karlsfeld to heat its own production facilities and the municipality's district heating network simultaneously from 2028. By 2030, MAN aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at its sites worldwide by 70 percent compared to 2019. From now on, both electric and diesel trucks will be produced in a fully integrated mixed production process on the same line.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>“The future of MAN begins now”</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Alexander Vlaskamp: “The start of series production of our electric trucks is historic. It marks a turning point in our history! The future of MAN begins now, at this very moment. The entire MAN team is proud to be actively shaping the transformation from diesel to electric drive. Our highly efficient electric trucks will make locally emission-free freight transport a reality. This is an enormously important step towards achieving our goal of becoming CO<sub>2</sub>-neutral by 2050. The fact that we can manufacture the electric trucks on the same production line as our state-of-the-art diesel trucks also gives us enormous flexibility and increases production efficiency.” He continues: “We have invested almost 400 million euros in research and development to be able to offer our conventional truck product portfolio with battery-electric drive as well. The range extends from 12 to 50 tonnes and covers everything from refuse collection vehicles to long-haul trucks. We have done our homework. We aim to deliver the first 1,000 electric trucks by the end of the year. Depending on their use and electricity mix, this would save CO<sub>2</sub> emissions comparable to those of a small town. That is enormous leverage! Politicians must now set the right course with regard to infrastructure expansion and CO<sub>2</sub> pricing so that the ramp-up in e-mobility continues to gain momentum.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Manfred Weber adds: “Innovation and technology are not only the key to Europe's economic success and international competitiveness, but also crucial for reconciling economic and climate policy goals. MAN is leading the way with its etruck and showing what lower-emission freight transport can look like.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Munich ready for e-mobility: diesel and electric on the same line</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Michael Kobriger, Member of the Executive Board for Production & Logistics: “We are investing around one billion euros in the conversion to electrification of our European plants in this decade – a large part of this in Germany. This is also a strong industrial policy signal for Bavaria as a business location, as we are actively shaping the transformation in Nuremberg and Munich.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The transformation is now clearly visible at MAN's main plant. Maximum production capacity currently stands at around 100 trucks per day, regardless of the drive type. It takes around eight hours to manufacture a truck.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>“The production of electric or diesel trucks on a single line can be flexibly adapted to market developments, and the vehicles can be built exactly in the order in which they are ordered by customers. This innovative concept is accompanied by extensive changes along the assembly line as well as in the supply chain and logistics,” says Kobriger.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>For example, while combustion engines are initially fitted with axles, tanks and exhaust systems, the electric models are instead fitted with two batteries under the cab together with other electrical components – the so-called power pack. More than 5,000 employees have been trained in high-voltage technology for this transformation.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>700 electric trucks sold – up to 740 kilometres range without charging</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Before starting series production, MAN has already manufactured almost 200 electric pre-series trucks and delivered them to customers. These vehicles have already clocked up around two million kilometres in real customer use on European roads – some with daily journeys of up to 850 kilometres and very low consumption of 97 kWh per 100 kilometres on average. MAN has already received around 700 orders for electric trucks. The etruck is particularly attractive for use in automotive logistics, among other things, as the Ultra-Lowliner semi-trailer tractor is unique on the market with its fifth-wheel height of just 950 mm and a wheelbase of 3.57 metres. This means that fully electric transport with an internal loading height of three metres is also possible. The electric Ultra Lowliner is already in use in Wolfsburg and Bavaria for automotive supply in various route profiles.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Another advantage of the etruck is its three to six modular NMC batteries, which come from the MAN plant in Nuremberg and offer a total gross capacity of up to 534 kWh. This means that up to 500 kilometres can be covered without recharging. For even greater ranges, there is even an optional seventh battery, which makes it possible to drive up to 740 kilometres on battery power without recharging.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Also a pioneer in electric buses</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN already offers not only the widest range of electric trucks, but also electric buses. There are over a million configuration options for electric trucks alone, providing tailor-made solutions for all common transport applications. MAN is the market leader in Europe for electric city buses, which have been manufactured at its plant in Starachowice, Poland, for some time now, and was also the first European manufacturer to present an electric coach in Ankara. More than 2,500 MAN buses with battery-electric drives are currently in operation in European cities. In the new model year, these will be equipped with batteries from Nuremberg, just like the trucks. MAN has invested 250 million euros in the construction of a battery pack production facility there.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>CO<sub>2</sub> neutral by 2050</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN Truck & Bus aims to become CO<sub>2</sub>-neutral by 2050. Electrifying the vehicle fleet is essential for achieving sustainability goals, as around 95 percent of MAN's total emissions are attributable to its vehicles in operation. Etrucks are also hugely important for meeting the European Union's current CO<sub>2</sub> targets: MAN aims to deliver more than 1,000 eTrucks to its customers by 2025. Compared to 1,000 diesel trucks with an annual mileage of 120,000 kilometres and an average consumption of 24 litres, these first electric trucks alone could save up to 80,000 tonnes of CO<sub>2</sub> in one year if they were powered by 100 percent green electricity. The top priority of our spare parts logistics is to supply customers quickly and reliably. This applies to millions of existing vehicles and also to current models with alternative drive systems. To achieve this, we need more space and state-of-the-art logistics systems in addition to our highly qualified employees. This also strengthens MAN in Lower Saxony and makes the Salzgitter site fit for the future.”&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-left:0px;text-align:justify;"><span style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">Due to the ramp-up of zero-emission technologies, up to 12,000 specific e-mobility components such as batteries and other parts will be stockpiled in Salzgitter in the coming years. This is because more and more electric vehicles from MAN are on the road worldwide. Several hundred of the company's eTrucks are already on the road in Germany and Europe - and have already covered more than two million kilometers. Locally emission-free. There are also more than 2,000 fully electric buses around the world. Immediately after the ceremonial handover of the vehicles by Friedrich Baumann, Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, to Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, the drivers themselves transferred their new trucks to the respective DB Schenker locations throughout Germany. From there, the MAN eTGX Ultra semitrailer tractors, which have been specially developed for high loading volume requirements and allow the use of corresponding mega trailers with an interior height of three metres, will be on the road.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>These trailers have been used specifically in the automotive segment for years, but also in other areas with high loading space requirements. The high loading volume helps to make transport more environmentally friendly and, in combination with the all-electric MAN eTGX Ulra Low Liner, sustainably reduce CO2 emissions. DB Schenker and MAN have agreed in a Letter of Intent (LOI) 2023 that 100 of the electric lorries will be added to the fleet by 2026.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>During the handover of the first MAN eTGX, the two companies also signed a further letter of intent for the delivery of 50 MAN eTGLs. After years of planning, development and many tens of thousands of kilometres of test drives, we are finally getting started.’</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>In future, the MAN eTGX will transport batteries for automotive supplier DRÄXLMAIER to the Porsche plant in Leipzig with zero emissions. The eTruck will be charged with electricity from renewable resources on the DRÄXLMAIER site. Alexander Vlaskamp: ‘It doesn't get much more sustainable than that. This is a real electric success story.’</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Porsche Executive Board for Production and Logistics, said: ‘We are pleased that the supply of the Macan production in Leipzig is being expanded to include this innovative e-truck from MAN. The MAN eTGX proves that even large components such as battery modules can be transported electrically in large quantities’.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>‘By using the MAN eTruck, we are realising complete electrification to our customer and reaffirming our commitment to making logistics processes more sustainable and future-oriented. In doing so, we are fulfilling a central aspect of our understanding of sustainability: reducing emissions in the supply chain,’ said Felix Klimas, Head of Supply Chain Management at the DRÄXLMAIER Group. Karsten Wilhelm, Site Manager at DRÄXLMAIER Leipzig, adds: ‘We are proud that we will be delivering to our customer with an eTruck in the future. The Leipzig battery plant is thus making a direct contribution to more sustainable logistics processes.’</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>DRÄXLMAIER will not purchase the vehicle itself, but will commission the transport. The vehicle is being purchased by Business Fleet Services (BFS), the largest MAN commercial vehicle rental company in Europe. BFS will rent the vehicle to Spedition Elflein, which will then operate the truck. What's more, the MAN eTGX is simply fun to drive, impressing with its excellent handling and controllability, outstanding power delivery and low noise levels.’</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>The project</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The distance between the DRÄXLMAIER location and the customer's plant in Leipzig is about five kilometres. The truck transports an average of 15.5 tonnes. Two more vehicles are to follow by the end of the year, so that a total of three MAN eTGX will be in use for DRÄXLMAIER.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>The vehicle</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The MAN eTGX used for DRÄXLMAIER has 450 HP (330 kW), a battery capacity of 534 kWh (of which 480 kWh can be used) with six battery packs, an innovative design and a fully digital driver's workplace that has been specially designed for the eTruck. It has a charging capacity of up to 375 kW via CCS and, as a low-loader, a fifth-wheel height of 950 mm. MAN is the only manufacturer to produce an electric low-loader semitrailer tractor, also known as an ultra-tractor, as standard. Thanks to its particularly low fifth-wheel height, it can tow trailers with an interior height of three metres and thus transport significantly more volume. This is particularly interesting for the automotive industry, which often has to transport lightweight but large-volume parts. In addition, the MAN eTruck offers the shortest wheelbase in its class, making it compatible with all types of trailer.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Complete portfolio</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The most powerful version of the MAN eTruck available has 544 HP (400 kW) and, depending on the application, can achieve a range of around 650 kilometres without recharging when equipped with a seventh* high-voltage battery that will be available in the future. The MAN eTGX and MAN eTGS are also available with the megawatt charging standard (MCS), which will in future allow charging capacities of one megawatt and more. This makes it possible to recharge the vehicle from 10 to 80 percent battery capacity in around half an hour. This makes the MAN eTruck suitable for long-distance transport.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>A total of more than 2,500 orders and order enquiries have already been received for the eTruck. ‘Together with the eTGL, the eTruck's ‘little brother’, which will be presented at the IAA 2024, MAN now offers a complete portfolio of electric trucks from 12 to 50 tonnes. ‘We expect that by 2030, around half of all MAN trucks delivered will be battery-electric,’ says MAN Chief Sales Officer Friedrich Baumann.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><i><span>* Available only as a chassis version; the seventh battery can be installed by MAN Individual.</span></i></p>]]></description><category><![CDATA[Truck,Corporate,Services,Sustainability,Digitalisation,Engines &amp; Components]]></category>

"MAN is presenting CO2-free trucks with an extensive application portfolio at the IAA Transportation. In order for our customers to be able to use them for their business, they need charging facilities that are publicly accessible and also available at depots, loading and unloading points or depots. MAN is making a variety of efforts to rapidly advance the necessary development of charging parks and charging stations."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The most recent example is MAN's cooperation with E.ON and its subsidiary E.ON Drive Infrastructure. Together, the two companies are taking the expansion of the charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles in Germany and Europe a decisive step forward. As part of their cooperation, the energy group and the commercial vehicle manufacturer will set up around 170 locations with around 400 charging points for the public charging of electric trucks across Europe. E.ON and MAN are investing in the new charging locations, which are being built along the existing MAN service network and at which commercial vehicles from other manufacturers can also charge publicly. Around 125 locations are planned in Germany alone. This will create the largest nationwide public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles in the country to date. E.ON and MAN are also setting up further locations in Austria, the UK, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The fact that the first charging point was put into operation just a few months after the announcement shows just how serious the two partners are about realising this project. Two charging points for public charging are already available at the MAN service branch in Berlin-Wildau. In the coming weeks, two further locations will be put into operation in Karlsfeld, near the MAN headquarters in Munich, with a total of four charging points, and in Fürstenwalde with two charging points. It will be possible to charge with up to 400 kW at all charging points. The layout of the locations will be specially designed for charging electric commercial vehicles: This includes, among other things, a drive-through facility through the charging bay so that lorries do not have to manoeuvre. The plan is to have 80 locations equipped with publicly accessible charging infrastructure by the end of 2025.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>At the end of August, MAN presented another flagship project together with its long-standing partner FC Bayern Munich. High-performance and megawatt charging points are to be built at the Allianz Arena in Munich in three planned expansion stages. A total of 30 charging points are planned. This will allow up to 500 electric buses and lorries to be charged every day. The background to this charging park project is that large football stadiums such as the Allianz Arena have a very powerful electricity grid that is only fully utilised on match days due to their high electricity requirements for floodlights, catering operations and other consumers. These are ideal conditions for setting up a commercial vehicle charging park.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Milence has already opened the first charging parks for battery-electric commercial vehicles and many more are in the pipeline. The joint venture between MAN parent company TRATON GROUP, Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group aims to build and operate 1,700 high-capacity public charging stations in Europe by 2027.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The public charging infrastructure for electric trucks is extremely important for widespread use. However, the ramp-up of electromobility in the truck sector will also require charging points at MAN's customers or their customers' premises. For predictable, regularly recurring routes or for vehicles that are always in the same depot after a shift, it makes sense to invest in charging points. MAN Transport Solutions plans the design of the charging infrastructure with the customer and develops an optimal energy supply strategy for each company.                         <guid>https://press.mantruckandbus.com/united-kingdom/cambridgeshires-whippet-goes-green-with-14-man-neoplan-p20-tourliners/</guid><pp:caseid>657231</pp:caseid><description><![CDATA[<p><span>Whippet Coaches Ltd of Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, took delivery of 14 Neoplan coaches last year to be used in partnership with FlixBus.</span></p><p><span>The 14 vehicles, all in FlixBus livery, are Neoplan Tourliner P20 6x2 three-axle models that are both highly specified and feature the latest elements in exterior design, interior comfort and advanced engine and drive-train technology.</span></p><p><span>Whippet’s 13.4-metre Tourliners come with all the qualities, practicalities and efficiencies you would expect from the luxury MAN Neoplan brand.</span></p><p><span>“Our Neoplan P20 Tourliners are the result of the partnership between ourselves, MAN Truck & Bus UK and FlixBus,” said Ascendal Group Managing Director UK Jonathan Ziebart. “The new vehicles, all tailored to meet the FlixBus specification, promise high levels of passenger comfort and safety, and advanced features to help and support our team of experienced drivers.</span></p><p><span>“We’ve now had the vehicles for one year, and in their first 12 months of service they’ve covered a combined four million kilometres, representing an average of around 286,000 kilometres per coach. We’re proud of our engineering team, who have kept these vehicles on the road under intense operating conditions and made it possible for us to reach this milestone.”</span></p><p><span>With their three-axle chassis, featuring electrohydraulic trailing steering axles, all 14 vehicles are powered by the latest MAN D26 12.4 litre Euro 6e engines, which develop 470 bhp and 2,400 Nm. Their silky smooth and seamless gear changes are handled by 12-speed MAN automated ZF TraXon gearboxes.</span></p><p><span>Once aboard customers are met by 55 PremiumLine EcoPlus seats featuring seat back adjustment, three-point seat belts, individual folding tables, newspaper nets and adjustable footrests. Finished in Pandora grey fabric, each seat is trimmed with matching FlixBus green piping and leather perforated headrest. To ensure customer connectivity, all seats have USB charging sockets and to enhance comfort further the large double-glazed side windows are tinted to help reduce glare.</span></p><p><span>Driver comfort is addressed in the form of a heated and cooled luxury Isri ProActive-2 driver's seat, leather multi-function steering wheel, heated windscreen and mirrors, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, satellite navigation, reversing camera and a centre door camera.</span></p><p><span>To ensure the provision of wheelchair accessibility, under the Department for Transports Wheels within Wheels guide, all 14 coaches have been fitted with the MAN Factory PSVAR (Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations) system. Mounted above the drive axle, on the kerbside, is an additional door and PSVAR-approved electro-hydraulic wheelchair lift. A quick-release seat slider system ensures that up to eight seats can be re-positioned and up to three wheelchairs can be safely lifted, accommodated and catered for.</span></p><p><span>Other creature comforts include live data destination equipment, DAB+ infotainment system, air-conditioning and a centre-mounted washroom convenience, complete with a disinfectant dispenser, electric hand dryer and smoke alarm. When not in use the washroom can be locked from the driver's dash. A MultiPlus kitchenette unit with a 40-cup coffee machine is mounted above the washroom.</span></p><p><span>Jonathan continued, “To guarantee a service that is both efficient and affordable for our customers, we worked with MAN to ensure our new fleet benefited from the latest technologies in terms of fuel efficiency. This allows us to both manage and maximise our fuel usage and supply an environmentally sustainable travel solution.”</span></p><p><span>“The new vehicles will operate both across the UK with direct services between Yorkshire, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge and London, and, further afield into Europe, including trips to Paris and Amsterdam.”</span></p><p><span>“Our team of professional drivers and the FlixBus passengers appreciate the high levels of comfort that the vehicles provide.” Concluded Jonathan.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>To help ensure business value, each of the 14 vehicles is equipped with MAN’s GPS-assisted EfficientCruise and Efficient Roll, both innovations that help reduce the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). The electrically powered 12-tonne truck rounds off the MAN electric truck portfolio for light distribution transport. With a range of up to 235 kilometres, fast charging in around 30 minutes and a payload of up to 6,600 kilograms, depending on the body, it offers the ideal combination for quiet and locally CO2-free transport in urban goods logistics for food chains, retailers or the catering industry. Together with the eTGS and eTGX, MAN now offers the entire total weight portfolio from twelve to 42 tonnes fully electrically with the new eTGL. Comparatively low range requirements, the option of depot charging at logistics locations and increasing noise and emission restrictions for combustion-powered trucks in city centres make urban distribution transport an important starting segment for the switch to electromobility.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>‘With the new eTGL, MAN is becoming a true full-range provider in the field of electromobility. From night-time supermarket deliveries to heavy-duty long-distance transport, MAN offers transport companies zero-emission drives from a single source. The approximately 2000 orders and order enquiries for our eTGX and eTGS already show that our modular battery concept for individual deployment, body and range requirements meets the needs of our customers. With its high payload, short charging times and optimum range for urban logistics, the eTGL perfectly rounds off our eTruck portfolio,’ said Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, at the presentation of the new lightweight electric distribution truck.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The new MAN eTGL is based on the proven 12-tonne model from the diesel portfolio and uses the same technical components as its ‘heavy’ brothers eTGS and eTGX: the two battery packs developed by MAN specifically for commercial vehicle use and produced at the Nuremberg plant are mounted on the left and right of the frame and offer a usable capacity of 160 kWh. Charging takes place via CCS connection with up to 250 kW in around 30 minutes (10 % - 80 % SoC, 250 kW, 335 A) and is therefore efficient during driving breaks.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The drive unit, consisting of an electric motor and two-speed gearbox, is positioned centrally in the frame and delivers the drive power of 285 hp or 210 kW to the rear axle via a cardan shaft. The 4500 mm wheelbase, designed for exceptional manoeuvrability in the city, can be combined with body lengths of 6200 to 7300 mm, which are typical for lightweight tarpaulin bodies and dry freight trailers. The spacious day cab offers the same driving comfort as its diesel counterpart: the particularly low entrance is ergonomically designed for frequent entry and exit and numerous easily accessible storage compartments around the driver allow quick organisation of freight documents, writing pad, tablet or mobile phone and offer the appropriate charging connections. The central, fully digital 12.3-inch display provides comprehensive information on the battery charge status, range, current energy requirements and recuperation in addition to the usual driving data.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Comprehensive eMobility advice and services</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>As with the MAN eTGX and TGS, 360-degree e-mobility consulting is also available for MAN eTGL customers: Advice on switching to electromobility includes customer-specific analyses of vehicle deployment and charging infrastructure requirements. Enough to give the 40-tonne long-distance eTruck from MAN a driving range of around 400 kilometres in 30 minutes. The charging premiere, which was attended by the Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Hubert Aiwanger, the Chairwoman of the German Council of Economic Experts, Prof Monika Schnitzer, and around 200 other guests from politics, the media, business and science, was part of the presentation of the results of the NEFTON research project launched in 2021. In the project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, MAN Truck & Bus and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) as well as five other partners from science and industry analysed the system consisting of an all-electric truck, charging station and grid connection and designed it for various application scenarios. The focus is on the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for ultra-fast charging of electric trucks during the driver's break or when loading and unloading at the ramp.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"With NEFTON, we have succeeded in developing technologies to charge e-trucks within a very short time and with a power output of over 1000 kW. Our research focussed on practicality, costs and grid connection power. Together with our project partners, we have clearly demonstrated that electric trucks and megawatt charging are the perfect combination for the comprehensive decarbonisation of road freight transport. The technology is there, now we need to drive forward the expansion of the charging infrastructure in the market in close cooperation with politicians, the energy industry and vehicle manufacturers," says Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research and Development at MAN Truck & Bus.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>With megawatt charging, electric trucks will become an emission-free alternative to today's diesel trucks in all common transport applications - including long-distance transport. Around 80% of all goods in Germany are transported by road. This means that road haulage accounts for the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions in freight transport. Switching to zero-emission trucks is therefore a key lever for achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Prof Markus Lienkamp from the Chair of Automotive Engineering at TUM, who is leading the NEFTON project consortium, explained: "The scientific facts speak for themselves: battery electric trucks have an efficiency of around 75%. Fuel cell trucks with an efficiency of only 26% and eFuels with an efficiency of just 14% are miles away from this. However, the infrastructure on the main transport routes is still lacking for the actual effective use of electric trucks. Megawatt charging technology is a huge step forward in this respect."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Minister of State Hubert Aiwanger emphasised: "The research project shows: High-tech and expertise from Bavaria are shaping the mobility of the future. Such initiatives are gradually decarbonising logistics and freight transport, thereby also strengthening Bavaria as a business location. I would therefore like to thank everyone who has successfully participated in the NEFTON project. The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) in particular massively accelerates the charging times of trucks and is therefore a milestone for electromobility. MAN has already proven the practicality of this technology and played a key role in its standardisation. We are also taking MCS technology into account in our current funding programme. In the first round, we are financing 86 charging points for road freight transport, and the next funding call is due to start in late autumn. Together with our hydrogen funding, this programme stands for the Bavarian state government's openness to technology in mobility."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>NEFTON confirms clear need for public charging infrastructure</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Based on the analysis of real-life deployment scenarios from four haulage companies, NEFTON's research results clearly show the importance of public fast-charging infrastructure for the sustainable drive transition: While it is already possible to electrify transport in regional and distribution operations using the logistics centres' own charging infrastructure, an effective conversion of long-distance transport requires fast-charging stations with up to one megawatt of charging power every 50 km along the core routes of the motorway network. Charging capacities of up to 3000 kW, as NEFTON has also investigated, can even increase the efficiency and flexibility of electric trucks for long-distance transport use in the future. NEFTON has also already looked at bidirectional charging for possible integration of the truck as a storage unit in the power grid for more efficient utilisation of the electricity supply during the day. In addition to MAN Truck & Bus and TUM, the research consortium also includes Deggendorf Institute of Technology, Fraunhofer ISE, Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft e.V. (FfE), AVL Software and Functions GmbH and Prettl Electronics Automotive.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>MAN with its own strong commitment to infrastructure expansion</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>According to industry estimates, around 50,000 high-performance and megawatt charging stations will be needed by 2030 in order to sustainably drive forward the mobility transition for trucks in Europe. In the same year, half of all new MAN trucks registered in Europe are expected to be electric. This is why MAN is also involved in charging infrastructure projects such as NEFTON. At the beginning of July, a partnership was launched with the energy supplier E.ON to set up around 400 charging points at around 170 locations across Europe. With around 125 locations, this will also create the largest public commercial vehicle charging network in Germany to date. As part of the TRATON Group, MAN is also involved in the Milence joint venture together with Daimler Trucks and AB Volvo, which is gradually building at least 1,700 commercial vehicle charging points in Europe. As part of their new cooperation, the energy company and the commercial vehicle manufacturer will set up around 170 locations with around 400 stations for public charging of electric trucks across Europe. E.ON and MAN are investing in the new charging stations, which will be built along the existing MAN service network and will also be able to charge commercial vehicles from other manufacturers. Around 125 sites are planned in Germany alone. This will create the largest nationwide public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles in the country to date. Additional sites are being built in Austria, the UK, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>“Europe has set itself the goal of reducing emissions from heavy commercial vehicles by 90 percent by 2040. Electric mobility is a central key to achieving this goal,” said Leonhard Birnbaum, CEO of E.ON. “We are investing heavily to give the infrastructure for electric heavy goods transport a decisive boost and to set the course for sustainable logistics and green supply chains. Nearly all major manufacturers are now focusing their development efforts on electric mobility. For the final breakthrough, we need a high-performance charging infrastructure that is designed on a European scale. We are delighted to be leading the way together with MAN.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, adds: “For the mobility transition to be successful, we need around 50,000 charging points for heavy commercial vehicles in Europe by 2030. As a manufacturer of electric trucks, we are of course making our contribution to this. I am delighted that E.ON is now a strong partner for the electrification of our service locations. We are thus laying another foundation stone for a public charging network. However, we still urgently need the support of policymakers to build this network on a large scale.”</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The new sites will be located at strategically selected MAN service bases, primarily in industrial areas with high truck volumes or near motorways. This means that public charging can be easily integrated into daily operations. The layout of the sites is specially designed for charging electric commercial vehicles: This includes a drive-through facility through the charging station so that trucks and buses do not have to maneuver. Wherever possible, the stations are installed in separate areas from the MAN service operations - with separate entrances and exits for the charging area - to ensure that they are accessible to the public, regardless of the make of vehicle. During the day, drivers also benefit from the existing infrastructure, such as sanitary facilities and recreation rooms.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The sites will be built in a modular fashion. As a first step, each site will be equipped with several 400 kW charging stations. This will allow an average electric truck to recharge for a range of up to 300 kilometers in about 45 minutes. Later, the sites will be upgraded to the MCS megawatt charging system.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Cross-industry commitment to speed up the expansion of truck charging infrastructure</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The first 80 sites of the new charging network are to be built by the end of 2025 Sukhjinder Singh, CEO of E.ON subsidiary E.ON Drive Infrastructure: “The partnership with MAN Truck & Bus is a key milestone on the road to a sustainable future for heavy-duty transport. Originally launched in 2022, at the International IAA Show in Hannover, the MAN eTGX eTruck is now in production, available for customers to order and ready to hit the UK roads.</p><p><span>Marking a milestone in the decarbonisation of freight transport and MAN Truck & Bus corporate history, the first MAN heavy-duty electric truck went on sale in October 2023. The successful market launch and high customer demand saw 700 vehicle orders placed in just three months.</span></p><p><span>Delivering daily ranges of up to 800 kilometres, with the ability to specify the number of batteries installed within the vehicle, the new MAN eTGX is competition for conventional tractors when it comes to long-distance transport. With a charging capacity of up to 750 kW the MAN eTGX tractor provides the perfect balance for operators.</span></p><p><span>At the IFAT 2024 Show, held in Munich in mid-May, MAN Truck & Bus premiered the New eTGX and eTGS rigid range and in doing so significantly expanded the eTruck portfolio for individual customers. The number of configurable MAN eTruck variants has risen to over one million thus ensuring the new chassis versions of the eTGX and eTGS can be highly customised with a variety of wheelbases, cab versions, engine performance classes, battery combinations, charging connection positions and numerous other industry-typical features.</span></p><p><span><strong><u>The Heart of the MAN eTGX and eTGS: The Battery</u></strong></span></p><p><span>The use of an emission-free truck driveline depends entirely on one thing: the battery. This is why the batteries installed in the new MAN eTGX and eTGS were specifically designed at the MAN facility in Nuremberg. Because of this, the expertise in one of the most vital technical components of the MAN eTruck range is retained in-house.</span></p><p>Characterised by a high degree of customisation and battery configuration options, the New eTGX tractor and eTGS rigids offer operators choices in terms of range, payload and charging time. Depending on the vehicle's purpose various battery capacities are available, ensuring daily ranges of up to 800 kilometres.</p><p>Battery configuration on the New MAN eTGX 4x2 tractor and eTGS rigids can include:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>6 battery packs delivering a battery capacity of 480 kWh and a range of 400 km on a single charge. This option delivers maximum range for long-haul transport.</li><li>5 battery packs delivering a battery capacity of 400 kWh and a range of 325 km on a single charge. This option offers a compromise between payload and range in long-haul or distribution transport.</li><li><span>&nbsp;</span>4 battery packs delivering a battery capacity of 320 kWh and a range of 260 km on a single charge. This option is ideally suited to meet the needs of typical average mileage in distribution transport operations.</li></ul><p><span>When looking at the rigid MAN eTGS MAN can offer all of the above battery options and a 3 battery pack solution that offers 240 kWh battery capacity and a range of 195 km, this offering maximises payload in distribution transport with a shorter route range.</span></p><p><span>Depending on the purpose and specification of the individual vehicle, with a 45-minute charge, daily ranges of up to 800 kilometres are achievable.</span></p><p><strong><u>Optimal adaptability for custom builds</u></strong></p><p>Together with the payload and body-friendly positioning of the drive motor, the modular battery concept of the MAN eTGX and eTGS offers a high degree of variability for a wide range of applications. In addition, eTGX tractor wheelbases, from 3.75 metres, allows the tractor unit to be combined with all common trailer variants within the permissible overall length regulations.</p><p>The New MAN eTGX and eTGS, 18 to 28-tonne rigid chassis, in both 4x2 and 6x2 format, with their three, four, five, or six battery pack configurations, offer nine different wheelbases, six cab variants, steered and non-steered trailing axles, leaf, air and full air suspension, individual driving programs specially adapted to the respective application and numerous other industry-typical features. Their flexible chassis space offers a robust mounting point for a range of body applications.</p><p><strong><u>360-degree eMobility Consulting</u></strong></p><p>Even before purchasing a new eTruck, MAN supports customers with its 360-degree eMobility Consulting service. In addition to advice on the most suitable vehicle, this also includes consideration of customer-specific operating conditions, including cost optimisation, route analysis, fleet optimisation and, building on this, the necessary advice on charging infrastructure. Additional support is provided by digital tools such as the new MAN eReadyCheck, which customers can use to check how their delivery routes can be driven purely electrically, or the MAN eManager, which fleet managers can use to keep an eye on the charging status of all trucks in the fleet at all times.</p><p>MAN also has its own charging infrastructure offering for customers in its portfolio through partnerships with charging infrastructure manufacturers such as ABB, Heliox and SBRS. Furthermore, MAN offers service contracts and financing solutions for the new MAN eTrucks that are specially tailored to electromobility.</p><p><strong><u>Presented at HORIBA MIRA - MAN TGX 18.449 4x2 BL SA EB Electric 4x2 Tractor</u></strong></p><p>This futuristic 4x2 tractor offers customers and operators a 42000 kg Gross Combination Weight (GCW) solution that promises to drive down emissions. Driven by a Permanently excited synchronous motor, that delivers power outputs of 330 kW (449 PS) and 1150 Nm of torque, housed on the chassis are 6 x 80 kWh (480 kWh) batteries that power a Central drive unit and a 4 Speed MAN TipMatic® automated transmission, which in turn drives the rear axle.</p><p>Charging Capacity is set at 375 kW DC and for ease of use, it features CCS charging connection points to both the left and right front sides. With a 44000 kg Gross Combination Weight (GCW) this high-spec powerhouse is guaranteed to grab attention on the road while being a miser at the pumps.&nbsp;</span></p><p><strong><u>MAN Truck & Bus Van at the 2024 RTX Show</u></strong><span><strong><u>&nbsp;</u></strong></span></p><p><strong><u>MAN TGE 3.160 4x4 SB Next Level Panel Van</u></strong></p><p>Fresh from the first public unveiling of the MAN TGE Next Level Van range, in Milan week starting the 6<sup>th</sup> of May, MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd is delighted to be able to use the RTX Show to showcase the TGE Next Level here in the UK.</p><p>The TGE Next Level, the "Truck among Vans" has received an extensive functional and interior update with the 2025 model year, highlight updates include Improved active and passive safety, Eleven new assistance systems available, a total of 27 assistance systems on offer, State-of-the-art MAN Media Van touch display for the safe operation of infotainment and vehicle functions, MAN SmartLink, digital instrument cluster, Keyless Go, multifunction steering wheel, electronic parking brake, Improved cyber security and Launch edition models with enhanced design elements.</p><p>Bringing safety to the fore the MAN TGE Next Level with a combination of new control units, new radar sensors and cameras has also made it possible to significantly enhance the safety and driver assistance systems. For example, Blind Spot Warning and Drive Off Warning are completely new. These are now standard for all MAN TGE’s over 3.5 tonnes with N2 approval and optional for vehicles with N1 approval. The optional assistance systems, Cruise Assist, Cruise Assist Plus and Turn Assist, are also new developments. In addition, almost all systems have been revised and their functions expanded. The extended list of assistance systems fitted as standard is also noteworthy. The extensively revised vehicle electrics and electronics in combination with the new driver's workplace and the new and updated assistance systems, raise the MAN TGE to a new level, which is why it was given the nickname "Next Level". Its NN Day cab sits on top of a robust chassis which connects to steel leaf spring suspension, to both front and rear. The tank is mounted on a sub frame and coupled to a multi stage tipping cylinder complete with a safety check valve and height limiter.</span></p><p><span>Driven via an Omsi transfer box, with a propshaft to a lay shaft, drive from the lay shaft is via a Multi belt and pulley system which is calculated to give the correct pump speed required to drive the Samson KM3400 Liquid Ring pump. The Jurop suction boom rotates 300-degrees and features a 6 inch water suction hose. Exhibited with the permission of Econ Engineering, the UK’s premier manufacturer of gritters, de-icers, snow ploughs and highway maintenance vehicles, MAN Truck & Bus is excited to be presenting a MAN TGM 18.250 in all-wheel drive (4x4) configuration.</p><p>Normally driven in extreme conditions when snow, ice and winds are at their worst, this vehicle offers the driver a comfortable and practical working environment. Once on board, out of the cold and sat in the Comfort driver's seat with air suspension and armrests, the driver is met by a MAN Advanced Media System with a 7 inch screen, MAN Sound system, Smartphone integration and a Multifunction steering wheel.</p><p>In 4x4 configuration with electronic differential locks to both axles, this vehicle is powered by MAN’s D08, 6.9 litres, Euro VI OBD-E, 6 cylinder engine which delivers 250 PS (184 kW) and 1050 Nm of torque. Having been loaned to the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, Leyland, for over a decade, this vehicle now sits in MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd’s reception at Swindon.&nbsp;<span>&nbsp;</span></p><p>First delivered to the Ministry of Defence in 1954, where it was used by The Royal Navy for transporting submarine engines, this bonneted LKW type 415 L1 is powered by a MAN D0026M1 215 PS (158 kW) four cylinder engine. With a top speed of 45 mph, it features a 6 speed ZF AK 6-80 manual transmission, leaf spring suspension and a Reversed Elliot front Axle.</p><p>Sitting on 8.25 x 20 14RR tyres, with its steel framed and wooden dropside body, it offers a payload allowance of 5100 kg. Breaking comes in the form of Hydro-pneumatic on the front axle and pneumatic on the rear. Powered by 24 volt electrics the engine is started by a 4 hp Bosch starter motor.</p><p><strong><u>MAN Truck & Bus Ride and Drive at RTX 2024</u></strong></p><p>Getting behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle and seeing the world from behind the dash is an important part of Road Transport. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel, with a 4 mm shell and 5 mm ends, the shell is electrically welded throughout with fully automatic “keyhole plasma and semi-automatic MIG processes. Operating at a working pressure of 1 bar this trailer features a Jurop RV520 vacuum pump and a large capacity silencer. Mounted to a stainless steel tri-axle sub-frame with Jost disc brakes, a 50 mm bolt-in kingpin, air suspension and a Knorr Bremse roll stability program, it sits on polished alloy wheels and operates at a Gross Vehicle weight (GVW) of 44,000 kg. &nbsp;</p><p><span>The second RTX ride and trailer has been kindly loaned to us by Weightlifter Bodies (Scunthorpe) one of the country's premier truck body builders. Established in the 1930s Weightlifter prides themselves in utilising cutting-edge manufacturing technologies including automated welding and plasma cutting across their trailer range. Their bodies, including the step frame, sloper frame&nbsp;and&nbsp;straight frame tipper trailer chassis, are crafted in-house to the highest standards and are built to be durable, safe&nbsp;and&nbsp;productive. This alloy plankside tipping trailer sits on a 10.1 metre compact frame with a rear lift axle for optimum maneuverability. Offering a 70 cu yd volume it rests on air suspension with Jost disc brake axles. It features a VPG digital onboard loading system with inclinometer, a load stability indicator&nbsp;and&nbsp;an air-operated tailgate. Keeping the load dry and secure is a hydraulically operated Dawbarn sheeting system. Finishing off the professional look are Alcoa Durabrite rims. On board of the test truck, which drove around ten kilometres on the A9 between the Allershausen and Fürholzen junctions, were Federal Transport Minister Dr Volker Wissing and MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN has been intensively driving forward the development of autonomous trucks for use in logistics hubs and for hub-to-hub traffic on motorways for some time and recently became the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to receive a Level 4 test permit based on the law on autonomous driving on German motorways.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Freight volumes and, in particular, transport between logistics hubs – such as the warehouses of large online department stores – are growing steadily. The use of autonomous trucks in this so-called hub-to-hub transport is particularly suitable for this. The trucks are always on the road, extremely efficient in terms of consumption and safe to drive. There are no driving time breaks, so the vehicles can be perfectly integrated into tightly synchronised logistics processes. In the long term, the efficient use of autonomous trucks can reduce overall operating costs by ten to 15 per cent. The new technology can also alleviate the driver shortage. There is already a shortage of up to 100,000 truck drivers in Germany alone.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>”The first Level 4 test drive of an autonomous truck on a German motorway proves that Germany has taken a leading position in Europe with the law on autonomous driving. Our goal is to become the leading market for automated and connected driving. Today is a milestone for logistics in Germany. The ever-increasing volume of transport, coupled with the worsening shortage of drivers, is a challenge for society as a whole. Autonomous trucks can help to alleviate the situation. In addition, the intelligent networking of freight transport offers the opportunity to make transhipment from road to rail more efficient and thus strengthen climate-friendly combined transport”, says Dr Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"Today we are taking another big step towards autonomous commercial vehicles, the second major future field alongside the switch to CO<sub>2</sub>-free drives. This year, we are initially running tests with prototypes on the motorway. Further hub-to-hub projects will follow from 2025, but then in typical customer applications. We are thus taking the next development step towards series production of autonomous trucks towards the end of the decade. The law on autonomous driving gives our industry the necessary planning security. To realise autonomous driving, however, we also need to work closely with infrastructure operators such as Autobahn GmbH. Only together can we put autonomous driving on the road," says Alexander Vlaskamp, Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN Truck & Bus SE.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"Autobahn GmbH des Bundes plays a central role in autonomous driving on German motorways," explains Dirk Brandenburger, Technical Managing Director of Autobahn GmbH des Bundes. "We not only approve autonomous driving on certain motorway sections, but also actively promote networking and communication between motorway infrastructure and vehicles with so-called cooperative intelligent transport systems. This is of crucial importance for the authorisation and therefore the safety of autonomous vehicles on the road."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>For the test drive of the first autonomous truck, Autobahn GmbH examined MAN's concept as part of the application for a test licence before the Federal Motor Transport Authority officially granted MAN approval at the beginning of April. In future, Autobahn GmbH will also be responsible for approving operating areas on motorways for the series approval of autonomous vehicles. The vehicle operator specifies the routes on which its vehicles with autonomous driving functions are to drive, and Autobahn GmbH then checks whether these routes are suitable for the operation of these vehicles with autonomous driving functions.</span></p><p><strong>MAN with many years of development expertise in autonomous driving</strong></p><p><span style="text-align:justify;">MAN has been driving autonomous driving forward for many years with various research and development projects. From 2017 to 2019, MAN developed and tested electronically coupled trucks in a joint research and development project with DB Schenker. These particularly safe and fuel-efficient platoons were used for more than six months in regular general cargo transport on the A9 motorway between Neufahrn and Nuremberg. From 2019 to 2023, the ANITA project with partners Deutsche Bahn, Fresenius University of Applied Sciences and Götting KG focused on the complete digital integration of an autonomous truck into the logistics process of container handling from road to rail. And since 2022, MAN has been working together with Autobahn GmbH and other partners from industry, science and technical testing in the ATLAS-L4 project to develop an autonomous truck for use in motorway transport between logistics hubs. The project is thus specifically implementing the law on autonomous driving passed in Germany in 2021, which already allows driverless driving on clearly defined routes and with technical supervision. Practical test drives of the prototype with a safety driver on the motorway are planned at the end of the project. To date, MAN has filed 133 patent applications in the field of autonomous driving, 33 of which have already been granted. The initially planned small series of around 200 units is to be delivered to customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and selected non-European countries as early as 2025. The "MAN hTGX", as the vehicle will be called, offers an alternative zero-emission drive variant for special applications, for example for transporting heavy goods – such as construction work, tank transport or timber transport. The hTGX can also be an environmentally friendly alternative to battery-electric trucks for use in areas without sufficient charging infrastructure or for markets where sufficient hydrogen is already available. MAN will hand over its battery-electric truck to customers for the first time in 2024 and scale it up from 2025. MAN has been the market leader for electric city buses in Europe since 2023.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"We are continuing to focus on battery-electric vehicles to decarbonize road freight transport. These currently have clear advantages over other drive concepts in terms of energy efficiency and operating and energy costs. However, trucks powered by hydrogen combustion engines are a useful addition for special applications and markets. We anticipate that we will be able to best serve the vast majority of our customers' transport applications with battery-powered trucks. For special applications, hydrogen combustion or, in the future, fuel cell technology is a suitable supplement. The hydrogen combustion engine H45 is based on the proven D38 diesel engine and is produced at the engine and battery plant in Nuremberg. The use of familiar technology enables us to enter the market at an early stage and thus provides a decisive impetus for the ramp-up of the hydrogen infrastructure. With the hTGX, we have now added an attractive product to our zero-emission portfolio," says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member of MAN Truck & Bus and responsible for Sales & Customer Solution.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The hydrogen drive is particularly suitable for special transport tasks that require a special axle configuration or where there is no space for the battery on the frame due to the need for truck body work. The MAN hTGX offers high payloads and maximum ranges of up to 600 kilometres in its initially offered 6x2 and 6x4 axle variants. The H45 hydrogen combustion engine used has an output of 383 kW or 520 hp and a torque of 2500 Nm at 900-1300 rpm. The direct injection of hydrogen into the engine ensures particularly fast power delivery. With hydrogen compressed to 700 bar (CG H2) and a tank capacity of 56 kg, the vehicle can be refuelled in less than 15 minutes. With less than 1g CO2/tkm, the MAN hTGX will fulfil the criteria as a "zero-emission vehicle" under the new planned EU CO2 legislation.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board Member for Research & Development, adds: "The new CO2 regulations at EU level will classify trucks with hydrogen combustion engines as zero-emission vehicles. This means that such vehicles fully contribute to our CO2 fleet targets, which also opens the door for this small series that complements battery electric vehicles. At the same time, depending on the country, our customers benefit from corresponding toll reductions, for example. At MAN's Nuremberg site, we have the most innovative engine technology and decades of experience in the use of hydrogen as a fuel. We are utilising this and presenting a real MAN with the MAN hTGX. The new hydrogen combustion truck is based on the tried-and-tested TG vehicle series and impresses with the highest quality and uncomplicated maintenance. We will continue to research fuel cell technology based on battery technology and hydrogen. H2 fuel technology is also in preparation at MAN. However, it will be several years before the technology is really ready for the market and competitive."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>As with e-mobility, MAN not only emphasises the development and production of innovative and reliable vehicles in line with its "Simplifying Business" claim, but also supports customers with comprehensive service and consulting offers when switching from diesel to zero-emission vehicles.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span><strong>MAN and hydrogen – a long-standing history</strong></span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>MAN has a long standing history with hydrogen drives, the company has been researching them for decades. MAN Truck & Bus presented the first hydrogen-powered bus at the Hanover Fair in 1996: the SL 202 city bus was powered by a natural gas engine that had been modified for hydrogen operation. Following the Hanover Fair, the vehicle completed a three-quarter year test phase in Erlangen, during which it travelled 13,000 kilometres and carried 60,000 passengers. The bus finally arrived in Munich in 1997 and was successfully deployed in regular service there. This was followed in 1998 by three articulated buses for Munich Airport, which were used until 2008, and a further 14 hydrogen-powered buses between 2006 and 2009.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>In addition to its earlier and more recent experience with commercial vehicles, MAN is now also developing and testing the hydrogen engine for the MAN Engines division in a wide range of applications on and off the road as well as on water. For example, it is well suited for special vehicles – such as snow cats – for trains on non-electrifiable routes and for excavators and cranes. Together with ABB E-mobility, we are striving for a trusting, binding and transparent partnership. We are already starting with the development of products and standards and are focussing on the special requirements of the commercial vehicle industry."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>The importance of cross-industry cooperation for the entire sector is particularly evident for megawatt charging system (MCS), Nickels continued: "At MCS, we are working with players from the entire sector to enable charging capacities in the megawatt range in the future and thus sustainable and economical long-distance heavy goods and passenger transport. By cooperating with ABB E-mobility, we can tackle the challenges of the new technology at an early stage and drive standardisation forward more quickly."</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>These challenges include the ISO15118-20 communication standard and new ways of transmitting signals. The basis for megawatt charging is Ethernet communication, which is being used for the first time in electromobility. Early software and interoperability tests with vehicles and charging stations should help to establish reliable products as quickly as possible in an emerging market environment. This is why the cooperation, which is initially scheduled to run for three years, is focussing on the customer experience right from the start, in addition to the internal development and further development of charging stations, vehicles and software.</span></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;text-align:justify;"><span>"High charging performance, reliable technology and customer confidence - these are the prerequisites for the success of electromobility in heavy goods and long-distance passenger transport. By working together with MAN right from the early product phase, we can respond even better to the needs of our customers.
