Commercial Refrigeration, Gaming and Leisure equipment distribution specialists Hadfields Transport of Manchester has just added three new MAN Trucks to its specialist fleet.

Commercial Refrigeration, Gaming and Leisure equipment distribution specialists Hadfields Transport of Manchester has just added three new MAN Trucks to its specialist fleet. The new vehicles, all high specification TGX 18-tonne rigids, join the evolving operation, boosting their Nationwide customer delivery service offering.

Key to the family firm’s decision to continue its association with MAN Trucks was the fuel-efficient performance of the 15 TGL 12-tonners. These were delivered into the operation in 2021 and also attracted exceptional driver feedback.

Hadfields Transport’s new trucks are all TGX 18.330 18-tonne box body rigids, featuring the aerodynamic and voluminous GM cabs designed for long-haul transport, and 9.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder D15, engines that produce 330 hp (248 kW).

Liveried in the Hadfields Transport traditional and distinctive colours of white with a broad yellow stripe running around the front of the vehicles, along and up the sides and onto the rear doors, featuring the company moto “Carrying you through the 21st Century” all three vehicles will operate out of Hadfields Transports 4.2 acre site in south Manchester. A further mark of how cherished these vehicles will be is that each of the new vehicles will carry a personalised number plate.

The new trucks come with a full complement of advanced MAN Trucks technology, including Electronic Braking System (EBS) Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Lane Change Support (LCS) Drivers Airbag, Active Brake Assist (ABS), Anti-Slip Control (ACS) ESP and EBA.

Scott Langridge, Managing Director of Hadfields Transport, who joined the business in 1994, said:  “We operate a mixed fleet of 35 vehicles, from a number of manufacturers, ranging from 3.5-tonne box body vans through to 44-tonne tractor trailer combinations. Over the last 12 months our 12-tonne MAN TGL’s have served us well, the drivers like them, they’ve proved to be reliable and efficient and the level of service we receive from MAN Truck & Bus at Trafford Park is exemplary.

“These new vehicles will be the first MAN 18-tonners we have operated and although they have only recently gone on the road, the feedback we’ve received from the drivers is very positive indeed.” Added Scott. “Due to the nature of our operation, we often double-man our vehicles, so comfort and safety, throughout their working days, is paramount.”

Each of the new vehicles, in keeping with the entire Hadfields Transport fleet, has a specialist box body and large cantilever tail lift fitted. Built by PPS Commercials of Bury (Manchester) these bodies are fitted with internal protective padding and multiple strapping points for the safe transportation of customer goods. To ensure the welfare of the crew and to enable them to move large and awkward shaped delicate high value goods around buildings, to different floors and through restricted areas, each vehicle carries specialist moving equipment including - stair walkers, skoots, ramps and pump trucks.

Scott added: “Due to the complexities associated with the careful delivery and installation of commercial refrigeration units and gaming equipment, it’s important that both the driver and crew arrive at a customer’s premises in a relaxed way. During the vehicle procurement process we read rave reviews from operators surrounding the high level of comfort found in the latest generation of MAN trucks and from what I’ve seen it doesn’t get much better.”

Formed in 1906, all apart from a brief period between 1968 and 1981, Hadfields Transport has remained in Family ownership. Today, the business trades as a Specialist Handling facility providing distribution solutions for difficult to move, Commercial Refrigeration, Gaming and Leisure equipment throughout the UK.

In addition to the Nationwide delivery service, Hadfields Transports Manchester base offers customers 60,000 square feet of modern warehousing space and benefits from full CCTV surveillance, security systems and trained staff to handle delicate products.

Mark Patterson, MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd Sales Executive, said: “It’s always a delight speaking with and visiting Scott and I very much value both the business and the relationship we’ve formed over the years.

“We knew from regular feedback that the 15 TGL 12 tonners were performing well and meeting Scott’s expectations, so as you can imagine we were delighted to hear the positive comments about the three new 18-tonne TGX rigids. Hadfields Transport’s new vehicles look amazing and I’m sure they will serve them well into the future.”

Each of the new vehicles is subject to an 84-month R&M Contract, during their busy lives they will be maintained by MAN Truck & Bus Trafford Park Manchester.

All MAN vehicles are supported by MAN Truck & Bus UK's Nationwide Commercial Vehicle Dealer network, with many operating extended hours, including round-the-clock servicing and customer-tailored solution maintenance.

The entire MAN range benefits from MAN's Mobile24 24-hour assistance service, which guarantees customers a professional roadside partner throughout Europe 365 days of the year.
