Wreford’s Transport of Northampton celebrate the Long Haul to Success with the arrival of their first New Generation MAN TGX Trucks.

Summary

Instantly recognisable in the Wreford’s Transport striking livery, the new MAN TGX 26.510’s are specified with a host of driver creature comforts.

Northampton based one-stop-shop transportation and logistics solution specialists Wreford’s Transport has recently taken delivery of their first New Generation MAN TGX Trucks.

Bolstering the existing fleet of 75 vehicles the new arrivals, both MAN TGX 6x2 26.510’s featuring the range-topping GX cabs, will help shape the future of Wreford’s Transport in house groupage distribution service.

Wreford’s Transport’s new MAN tractors are powered by the latest-generation MAN low-emission and highly efficient 12.4 litre, D26, six-cylinder, Euro 6D diesel engines, producing 510 hp and 2.600 Nm.

Andy Wreford, Director Wreford’s Transport, said: “We have a long-standing and trusted relationship with both MAN Truck & Bus UK, our local salesman Scott Munton and the local dealer, MAN Truck & Bus Northampton. The MAN trucks, of which we now have 16 on our fleet, have proven reliable, robust, and incredibly efficient and we’re sure that these new TGX’s will deliver the same experience.

“At the beginning of 2019 we took a seed demonstrator vehicle, a MAN TGX 26.460 XLX 6x2 tractor which performed very well indeed, it’s proven to be a sound workhorse, it’s good on fuel and the drivers like it, and, it continues to impress us. Because of these convincing factors we purchased 10 other new MAN’s, a mixture of both tractors and rigids in 2020. If these new generation TGX’s are as good as we both hear and have seen, we’re looking at great things.”

Instantly recognisable in the Wreford’s Transport striking and widely known livery, the new vehicles are specified with a host of driver creature comforts including microwave, climate control roof mounted air conditioning, tinted sun-visor, Kelsa light-bar and Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels.

Building on safety the TGX’s feature a host of advanced safety systems: including Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Lane Guard System (LGS). Included in the standard specification is the Electronic Parking Brake, which applies automatically when the vehicle is parked, with the gearbox in neutral and the ignition key removed. Direct Vision Standard cameras have also been added to reduce blindspots and ensure enhanced levels of view when operating in populated urban areas.

On this occasion Wreford’s Transport has purchased the two new vehicles outright, however as all New Generation MAN TGX’s come with a two-year R&M Relax package, covering bulbs, oils, top-ups, PMI’s, MOT’s, brake re-lines, local MAN dealer MAN Truck & Bus Northampton will carry out routine maintenance. The new arrivals are also supported by MAN’s highly focused Mobile24 24-hour customer assistance service, which guarantees a nationwide 24/7 customer assistance service, 365 days of the year.

“We’re a multi-functional road transport, warehousing and storage distribution company offering our customers a focussed and bespoke time sensitive logistics service, operating 24 hours a day, so the new vehicles will be required to deliver goods throughout the UK, around the clock, seven days a week,” continued Andy Wreford.

“As a company we pride ourselves in offering high levels of customer service and this is where the new MAN trucks will feature, they will cover a lot of miles over the next five years, however from what we’ve seen we’re confident that they will fly the Wreford’s Transport flag with pride.” Concluded Andy.

Operating within the Midlands’ Golden Triangle of logistics, Wreford’s Transport has the enviable position of being at the hub of the UK's motorway network. The group's Northampton head office and four operational sites are located just two miles from the M1, meaning they are within a four-hour drive of 90 per cent of the population.

In 1904 at the age of 19 company founder Silvanus William ‘Ben’ Wreford began transporting coal throughout Northampton and farm produce to the local markets, back then his mode of transport was the horse and cart. In 1919 ‘Ben’ purchased his first motorised vehicle, an ex-army chain-driven FWD (Four Wheel Drive Auto Company) flatbed.

Today Wreford’s Transport is still a family business and now managed by their fourth family generation, they operate from four locations spread across Northampton and have an operating centre in Winchester. They can collectively offer 240,000 sq ft of warehousing and a full range of transport services from a fleet of over 75 vehicles.

The new Wreford’s Transport vehicles were supplied by MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd.’s Direct Truck Sales division and will be maintained by MAN Truck & Bus Northampton. Man Truck & Bus Northampton provides a one-stop-shop service, covering new and used vehicle sales, genuine parts, servicing, finance solutions and repair and maintenance packages.

All MAN vehicles are covered by compressive manufacturer warranty packages and are sold and supported by a 65 strong strategically located MAN vehicle dealer network.
