Get connected: MAN TGE is networked as standard

Summary

Effective immediately, MAN Truck & Bus is fitting its transporters from the TGE series with the so-called MAN Telematics box as standard. In combination with the new generation of online-capable infotainment systems, numerous new functions become possible.

  • The new 3-button module in the roof liner to easily make emergency calls (EU emergency call) and use the MAN breakdown service and MAN info service.
  • 4 new infotainment systems from which to choose: from the basic “MAN Radio Van” model through to the all-round care-free “MAN Media Van Business Navigation” version
  • Simple smartphone integration and real-time traffic information possible

The MAN TGE is taking a big step towards the future. Completely new network possibilities are opened up to transporter customers with the highly-modern MAN Telematics box, which is being integrated into nearly all TGE models effective immediately. The newly-added services include, among other things, the MAN Live Traffic function, as well as new in-vehicle apps, which quickly provide the driver with important information. The first in-vehicle apps, such as those for parking and refuelling, are integrated into the navigation solution and, because they’re online-capable and intuitive to use, provide the user with the latest information on fuel prices or parking fees. Other in-vehicle apps such as news or weather and other digital offerings from MAN DigitalServices will soon follow.

The TGE is also getting a totally new generation of online-capable infotainment systems that, together with the new MAN Telematics box, will make day-to-day work significantly easier for our customers. The new infotainment systems are available for all MAN TGE models with diesel engines** from the model year 2021. Production has already started for the new model year with the majority of the new options.

The most apparent innovation in the 2021 model of the MAN TGE cab – along with the new infotainment system – is the innovative 3-button module, which take’s the driver’s comfort and safety to a whole new level.

MAN is pushing forward digitalisation in the light commercial vehicles sector with these new online functions.

Increased safety in an emergency: the 3-button module

A key functional extension in the 2021 model of the TGE is the 3-button module, which is placed in a central position in the roof liner. The module, which has two grey buttons and one signal red button, makes it possible to make emergency calls (EU emergency calls), and call the MAN breakdown service and info service without connecting a mobile phone. When the signal red SOS button is pressed or the airbag is released, an audio connection to the emergency call centre is automatically created via the emergency number 112. The module simultaneously transmits the vehicle’s location and other information defined by law to speed up the rescue operation.

The MAN breakdown service button can be identified by the spanner symbol. Pressing this button automatically calls the MAN Mobile24 Call Centre. The module connects the driver to the right contact person in the Call Centre using the pre-set language in the infotainment system. At the same, the system transmits important vehicle data like the location and error codes to MAN Mobile24 so that a diagnosis and repairs can be made quickly in the event of a breakdown.

The information button – the one with the i symbol – also calls the MAN Mobile24 Call Centre. The info call is for clarifying vehicle-related issues. The new 3-button module is available for all new radio models for the MAN TGE – for an additional charge in the basic “MAN Radio Van” version and as standard for all other models.

For every requirement: 4 new infotainment systems

Four models, each with a different range of functions, are available in the new generation of MAN infotainment systems: “MAN Radio Van”, “MAN Media Van”, “MAN Media Van Business” and “MAN Media Van Business Navigation”.

MAN Radio Van: just radio

The entry-level version of the new MAN TGE infotainment system is content with its basic function: it is a radio. The driver can also play their own audio files via an SD card slot. The radio is operated using easy-to-operate buttons and control knobs. The use of calling services using the new 3-button module can be ordered as optional extra for the “MAN Radio Van” ex works. The 3-button module cannot be retrofitted.

MAN Media Van: entry into connectivity

The “MAN Media Van” infotainment system comes with a 6.5-inch TFT colour display with touchscreen, and combines the functions of radio, media centre, hands-free module and on-board computer. All the functions can be operated using the touchscreen display. The MAN SmartLink interface makes it possible to connect a mobile phone to the infotainment system with a cable and to use steaming services and navigation apps using MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlayTM or Android AutoTM. It is also possible to connect a rear-view camera to the infotainment system monitor ex works if preparations have been made. Making emergency calls, MAN breakdown calls and MAN info calls via the 3-button module is included with the “MAN Media Van” radio model.

MAN Media Van Business: increased comfort

The “MAN Media Van Business” infotainment system can be identified by the 8-inch colour display with touch screen. This model is perfect for people who want greater ease of use and additional connection options. The series-standard Wireless MAN SmartLink interface makes it possibly to wirelessly connect a smartphone and thus use the hands-free system and streaming services on the infotainment system. The “MAN Media Van Business” system can also use in-vehicle apps such as weather or news apps. The 3-button module for calling services is included.

MAN Media Van Business Navigation: the all-round care-free package

The vehicles and products displayed on this website may differ in terms of shape, design, colour and scope of supply. Some of the images may include special equipment, accessories and decorative elements which are subject to an additional charge. The technical features and equipment of the vehicles described are merely examples and may differ, in particular on a country-specific basis. We reserve the right to make changes at any time.

Our vehicles are equipped with summer tyres as standard. Please check possible national regulations about whether winter tyres are required. Your MAN partner will be happy to advise you.

The specified fuel consumption and emission data has been determined according to the measurement procedures prescribed by law. Since 1st September 2017, certain new vehicles are already being type-approved according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It is currently still required by law to state the NEDC figures for vehicles for passenger transport with registration class M1. In the case of new vehicles which have been type-approved according to the WLTP, the NEDC figures are derived from the WLTP data. In cases where the NEDC figures are specified as value ranges, these do not refer to a particular individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the sales offering.

Additional equipment and accessories (e.g. add-on parts, different tyre formats, etc.) may change the relevant vehicle parameters, such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, and, in conjunction with weather and traffic conditions and individual driving style, may affect fuel consumption, electrical power consumption, CO2 emissions and the performance figures for the vehicle.

Efficiency classes rate vehicles for passenger transport with an M1 passenger vehicle registration, according to the CO2 emissions under consideration of the empty vehicle weight. Vehicles which conform to the average are classified as D. Vehicles which are above the current average are classified as A+, A, B or C. Vehicles which are below average are classified as E, F or G.

Additional information regarding the official fuel consumption, and the official specific CO2 emissions of new vehicles for passenger transport, with an M1 passenger vehicle registration, can be found in the “Guide on the fuel economy, CO2-Emissions, and power consumptions of all New Passenger Car Models”. This guideline is available free of charge at all sales points and from the DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen, Germany. In vehicle classes N1, N2 and M2, coolant of the type R134a is used. MAN TGEs of vehicle class M1 require coolant of the type R1234yf. The GWP value of the coolant used is 1.430 (coolant type R134a) and 4 (coolant type R1234yf). The fill levels depend on the coolant compressor and varies between 560 - 590 grams.
