  • New top-of-the-range engine with 598 hp for applications with high performance requirements
  • Improved direct visibility increases safety for all road users

At the IAA Transportation 2026, MAN Truck & Bus is presenting a new all-electric eTGX for heavy-duty long-haul transport. Its innovative design features a vehicle front that is pulled forward by 120 millimetres, with which MAN makes efficient use of the EU length specifications for zero-emission vehicles to optimise aerodynamics and safety. Combined with a new generation of batteries with ten per cent more usable energy than the previous generation, as well as up to 20 per cent more powerful recuperation, the new MAN eTGX is up to three per cent more efficient than the previous model.

For a typical 4x2 semitrailer tractor with six batteries and a total capacity of 552 kWh, this increases the range to up to 660 kilometres. The 6x2 semitrailer tractor, which will also be available in the future, can reach up to 720 kilometres with seven batteries and a total capacity of 644 kWh without intermediate charging. The modularity, small size and weight of the battery modules remain unchanged. There is an increase in drive power, which will reach up to 598 hp in the future.

Charging stops are particularly time-saving with the optional MCS charging port, which has been in series production by MAN since July. With the maximum charging power of 750 kW, the batteries can be refilled in around thirty minutes and can therefore take place during the driver's driving break. Shorter idle times mean better vehicle utilisation, greater flexibility and thus even more efficient use.

In addition to improved efficiency, the optimised front end of the new MAN eTGX also ensures greater safety: in conjunction with a lowered windscreen frame and a new low-visibility window in the passenger door, the driver has a better direct view of other road users in front of and next to the vehicle. This means that he is already meeting upcoming legal requirements.

"With the new MAN eTGX, we are taking the next big step on the road to the decarbonisation of long-distance transport. The combination of a new generation of batteries, an even longer range, megawatt charging and a vehicle design that is consistently designed for efficiency creates tangible economic added value for our customers in daily use. At the same time, we are improving direct visibility and thus safety for all road users," says Alexander Vlaskamp, Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN Truck & Bus.

New MAN eTGX: Design, efficiency and comfort

The new MAN eTGX combines an even more efficient vehicle design with additional comfort and safety functions. Its flow-optimised front end, which has been extended by 120 millimetres and features a single-frame grille, continuous fog light strip and optimised wind deflectors, reduces air resistance and thus contributes to the longer range. At the same time, the extension of the front in conjunction with a lowering of the dashboard and a lowered windscreen wiper system improves the driver's direct view of other road users directly in front of the vehicle. Additional safety is provided by the new low-visibility window in the passenger door, which provides a better view of the immediate field to the right of the vehicle when turning. It has an interior and exterior window to improve the interior acoustics, ventilation against fogging, can be opened for cleaning and also protects the driver's privacy thanks to its tint. An extended curtain provides additional privacy during rest periods. For even more individuality, the new eTGX is also available with the MAN Individual Lion S package, which includes a black look package, a redesigned front lid, a side design window, full side trim and a black roof lamp bar with double-row LED light bars. In the cab, numerous new comfort functions make everyday work easier, including wireless charging for smartphones, EasyControl buttons also on the passenger door, a more powerful 230-volt socket with up to 1.2 kW of power, a heated front mirror for better visibility in adverse weather conditions and a mechanical night lock for additional protection during rest periods.

New generation of batteries

MAN achieves the ten percent increase in the usable energy of the new battery generation through improvements in cell chemistry. The compact size and variable combinability of the batteries remain unchanged, as does the low weight of the batteries: the 4x2 semitrailer tractor with an unladen weight of 10.7 tonnes offers a payload of up to 25 tonnes with a standard semitrailer – comparable to that of a diesel semitrailer.

The increase in usable capacity to 95 percent is clearly noticeable: With a gross capacity of 92 kWh per battery pack, this means 88 kWh available for vehicle operation. The new eTGX as a 4x2 ultra semitrailer tractor has six packages of the new battery generation with a total capacity of 552 kWh despite the particularly low semi-trailer height and short wheelbase of 3.75 meters. With six battery packs, this corresponds to a maximum possible range of 660 kilometers, or well over 500 kilometers under real conditions in typical long-haul transport

The new battery technology is accompanied by a new top-of-the-range engine of 440 kW and 598 hp for the electric drive, which now offers significantly higher recuperation power in all power levels. Together with the aerodynamic improvements, this makes a significant contribution to the three percent improvement in energy efficiency compared to the previous eTruck generation. In addition to the new 598 hp (440 kW) engine with 480 kW maximum recuperation power, a new 490 hp (360 kW) and 349 hp (290 kW) power levels with up to 420 and 320 kW recuperation power respectively complete the range. The high possible energy recovery through recuperation is another advantage of the NMC battery technology used by MAN for use in commercial vehicles. A high recuperation performance also means a high continuous braking performance, which also contributes to driving safety.

With the new engines, MAN now offers a complete drive portfolio of 333 to 598 hp for the eTGX and eTGS. And with the optional MCS charging technology, which has been in series production by MAN since July, recharging takes around 30 minutes – which can be optimally integrated into the driver's driving time break.

Three-axle tractor unit with seventh battery

Also new with the new battery generation is a seventh battery for semitrailer tractors. MAN will be demonstrating this concept at the IAA Transportation 2026 using a current 6x2 semitrailer tractor. The vehicle has an aerodynamically optimised front bar on the bumper, available from MAN Individual, which means that the vehicle meets all the requirements for making full use of the possibilities offered by the new EU legal dimension and weight requirements for zero-emission vehicles.

The use of a three-axle semitrailer tractor instead of a two-axle semitrailer tractor allows the fifth wheel to be moved further back, creating space for the seventh battery, which is arranged transversely behind the cab. Despite its flat and elongated design, this also offers 92 kWh gross capacity with the same robustness and durability as the cube-shaped standard variant – a clear advantage of MAN's strategy of developing batteries specially designed for use in trucks and buses and producing them at the Nuremberg plant according to its own requirements. With the seventh battery, the total battery capacity increases to 644 kWh.

This means that a maximum range of up to 720 kilometres is possible, and the typical range of over 600 kilometres can realistically be achieved under everyday long-haul transport conditions. In combination with the new 598 hp engine, the 6x2 semitrailer tractor with seven batteries and a fifth wheel load of 15 tonnes is also a powerful and long-range response to higher permissible gross weights in the future with unchanged axle load limitations. The steerable trailing axle gives the new semitrailer tractor variant a high degree of manoeuvrability despite its three axles.

With the new eTGX, MAN is further expanding its position as one of the pioneers in the electrification of road freight transport. The electric commercial vehicle portfolio already includes the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS and eTGX series and thus covers applications with a gross vehicle weight of 12 to 50 tonnes. All vehicles are based on a modular technology approach with uniform high-voltage components and a battery system.

Innovations in assistance systems

At the IAA 2026, MAN will also be presenting numerous innovations in assistance and safety systems for all truck series that will ensure even greater efficiency, safety and comfort in the future: the EfficientCruise anticipatory cruise control system integrates traffic infrastructure even more intelligently. The active interaction of the FrontDetection, Turning Assist and Emergency Brake systems offers weaker road users in front of and next to the vehicle even better protection, even in the low-speed range.

The offering is supplemented by numerous digital services for high vehicle availability as well as a comprehensive ecosystem for electromobility, charging and energy supply.
